Ezekiel Chapters 33-39 Class – Week One Notes

These are the class notes from the first week of a two week class. Prior to these notes, the attendees received a document called “Laying The Groundwork”.  That too has been posted on this site and likely makes sense to read prior to you digging into these lengthy notes.

EZEKIEL Chapters 33-39 WEEK ONE

VERY QUICK TOP-LINE POINTS FROM MY GROUNDWORK NOTES – which hopefully most of you had a chance to read:

1. TIMED, AND PROGRESSIVE REVELATION – all scriptures are for all saints, all the time – and yet there are different seasons when the Spirit might highlight and emphasize certain portions of written prophetic revelation, and there are also seasons when even new things will be revealed by God so that the saints might move in greater alignment with God, as He moves (“I still have many things to say to you” – john 16:12). SOME OF THOSE ARE NEW THINGS, while other NEW REVELATIONS are OLD THINGS that FINALLY GET UNLOCKED, and are revealed so, by events on earth.

AVOIDING BEING A CULT: know what has already been told to us, so you can discern whether new revelations, teachings, etc are from The Lord. Nothing from God will ever contradict the already revealed holy personality of God..

That requirement for fresh revelation is divinely intended to keep us desperate for Him, and in prayer, in the Spirit.

THE JEOPARDY, as the drama unfolds, is us wanting to point to every news event and then find a scripture. STILL, some of that does occur. DIVINE DESPERATION FOR WISDOM is required.

IT DOES HAPPEN, THOUGH!!!
“CAN A NATION BE BORN IN A DAY????”
Isa 66:8
8 Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her children.

THE “ZION” nation at first was born in ONE DAY on Calvary, and then again it was BORN IN THE GEO-POLITICAL REALM when Israel was deemed A NATION on May 14, 1948 ISRAEL was born.

ALL OF A SUDDEN, Isa 66:8 was confirmed and more clearly understood. Imagine reading all the Israel-nation prophecies BEFORE 1948. THAT was a FINE-FILTER to sort through some silliness that must have been written BEFORE that date….

SUCH DIVINE-PLAN TIME-RELEASE OF PROPHETIC SCRIPTURE explains things like this:
Dan 8:26
26 “And the vision of the evenings and mornings which was told is true; therefore seal up the vision, for it refers to many days in the future.”

2. THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS IS IN LINE WITH PRIOR PROPHECY, AND THEREFORE DID NOT ERADICATE PRIOR PROPHECY:
(The plan for Jesus’ crucifixion was established even prior to the creation.)
Rev 13:8-9
8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear.

CONCLUSION : Jesus’ first and second comings have been eternally planned, and all of the plans for Jesus, by God, will occur. Jesus’ crucifixion not being a hastily contrived fix – that means God already had His whole Savior-plan in place PRIOR to anointing the Old Testament (OT) prophets to write their prophecies.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND? The fact that His crucifixion was known by God prior to God Himself moving upon the prophet Ezekiel, it would be ludicrous to conclude that Ezekiel, writing truth as led by the Spirit would put forth any prophetic word that would then be erased or over-ridden by the appearance of Jesus in the first century.

Some doctrinal proponents will say “but we’re in NT times” true. But if something in the OT hasn’t happened yet, you know it will, because God already knew about NT times when HE had folks write the OT…

3. The fullness of God is revealed in the full, DUAL-Appearance of Christ. The fullness of the Salvation Plan was revealed to the world at His first appearance. The fullness of the Righteous Judgment of God will be revealed at His second appearance. THEN WE WILL SEE AND UNDERSTAND THE FULLNESS OF GOD:

Jesus being the Word of God, we would do well to not deny any portion of our Christ by attempting to deny any portion of the Word. HE IS THE WHOLE WORD.
Rev 19:13
13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

LAMB and LION: He came as the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. (John 1:29, Rev 13:8).
He will be coming again, this time as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, in flaming fire. (2 Thess. 1:8).

4. – Jesus did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. In fulfilling it, He FULLY FILLED it’s requirements so that as we remain IN HIM by our obedience and faith, HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS is accepted by God as our righteousness.
The laws of God remain in place. It is obvious that the requirements of the Mosaic covenant have ended (enjoy your carnitas!), but the laws of righteousness continue. We are not now free to kill or commit adultery because Jesus died for our sins.

Matt 5:17-18
17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

AND SOME OF MY FAVORITES VERSES – which are KEY to understanding THE PRIORITY OF THE OT PROPHECIES FOR THE NT SAINTS:

(I’ll cover these later this evening, but they want to be presented early-on):
1 Pet 1:10-13
10 Of this salvation (our salvation through Jesus) the (OT) prophets have (while they were writing) inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you (which both they, and we, are NOW walking in)
11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them (during their OT days, as they wrote) was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ (which had at the time Peter written this already occurred) and the glories that would follow (ongoing through the ages, reaching full bloom at His second appearance).
12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us (US – the NT saints!) they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven– things which angels desire to look into.
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
OH YEA….

Observe the TENSE of Peter’s writings – he spoke of things:
A. None of which HAD YET HAPPENED at the time the OT writers wrote; and
B. That had ALREADY HAPPENED between the time the OT writers wrote, and Peter was writing; AND
C. That were STILL WAITING TO HAPPEN, all the way up the Second Coming.

THIS IS KEY for us – from the get-go – THE OT was written for the NT saints. We are not just going back to the OT to observe religious Jewish history. WE ARE NOT ARCHAELOGISTS – we are SPIRIT LED SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD, responding TO THE SPIRIT to go back to where our great GOD has planted REVELATION OF THE KINGDOM PLAN.

GOD, in His wisdom, PURPOSELY PLANTED in the OT things that WE NEED TO KNOW – to mystify us, inform us, equip us, and also to lure us back into reading the text that reveals the M.O. (modus operandi – method of operation) of God throughout all ages.

SOME ARE STILL WAITING TO BE REVEALED. BUT HE’S ALREADY DECLARED THEM TO US.

Isa 46:9-10
9 Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure,’

Isa 48:3-7
3 “I have declared the former things from the beginning; they went forth from My mouth, and I caused them to hear it. Suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.
4 Because I knew that you were obstinate, and your neck was an iron sinew, and your brow bronze,
5 Even from the beginning I have declared it to you; before it came to pass I proclaimed it to you, lest you should say, ‘My idol has done them, and my carved image and my molded image have commanded them.’
6 “You have heard; see all this. And will you not declare it? I have made you hear new things from this time, even hidden things, and you did not know them.
7 They are created now and not from the beginning; and before this day you have not heard them, lest you should say, ‘Of course I knew them.’

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT FOR OUR UNDERSTANDING OF EZEKIEL?
1. A whole lot of Ezekiel has yet to be fulfilled – remember Jesus tells us ALL will be fulfilled. That “ALL” means everything – down to the last punctuation mark – JOT and TITTLE. AND SOME THINGS MAY SURPRISE US IN THEIR FULFILLMENT.

2. The righteous judgments of God, THROUGHOUT all of scripture, were often regarded as unfair and unreasonable. That has not changed. Man still wants to take the teeth out of God’s righteous judgment w easier teachings – those are most acceptable. That’s a doorway for false doctrine. Tremble at His word….

In fact, Paul says deceiving men will grow worse and worse (2 Tim 3:13), so we can expect the world, through increasing rebellion, to become more and more eligible for the judgments prophesied.

Those prophesied judgments will AT THAT TIME, (THE THEY WILL KNOW….”) become less and less “unreasonable” to the church as we see how wicked mankind will become.

Jesus compared the earth prior to His second coming to the earth prior to the Flood – and that was ONLY WICKED ALL THE TIME. We’re actually not there yet.
POINT TO NOTE: (“as in the days of Noah”) – The world was not improving before the Flood. I am not inclined to believe it will improve prior to Jesus’ return. Still, we’re called to contend for the nations, evangelize the world, pour into our communities, warn every man.

WHY ARE WE HERE these two Tuesdays?
Some of you are having dreams, others open visions, others are having the scriptures opened to them w new eyes, others are simply stirred in their spirits in prayer and worship.
GOD IS MOVING ON HIS PEOPLE in this season.

SO WE’RE DIVING BACK INTO WHAT GOD HAD WRITTEN, FOR US, to understand what He HAS DONE, what HE IS DOING, and what He has told us HE IS GOING TO DO so we can live and pray appropriately and in alignment w His will.

RE: praying the perfect will of God:
1. W THE WORDS OF YOUR MOUTH: “Your will be done”
2. W THE GROANINGS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:
Romans 8:26
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Let’s Pray…

THE CAPTIVITY – I am not going to spend a LOT of time EXPLAINING the CAPTIVITY that took Ezekiel to Babylon. We could spend months studying the WHY’S and HOW’S of that situation – and A LITTLE of that will get referred to in the actual verses.

But let’s look at some basic scriptures explaining the captivity of the northern tribes, the ones that have become known as the lost tribes of Israel.

Ezekiel came into Babylon early – there were deportations subsequent to his – which explains why, while in Babylon, he receives notifications of Jerusalem having fallen.

ISRAEL/SAMARIA:
II Ki 17:6-8, 11, 16-19
6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. (THIS WAS AROUND 722 BC).
7 For so it was that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and they had feared other gods,
8 and had walked in the statutes of the nations whom the LORD had cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.

11 There they burned incense on all the high places, like the nations whom the LORD had carried away before them; and they did wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger,
12 for they served idols, of which the LORD had said to them, “You shall not do this thing.”
13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets.”
14 Nevertheless they would not hear, but stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who did not believe in the LORD their God.

16 So they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, made for themselves a molded image and two calves, made a wooden image and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
17 And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger.
18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone. (which was to go into captivity later (around 600BC)
19 Also Judah did not keep the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

SADLY – JUDAH failed to learn from the captivity of ISRAEL, and later THEY went into captivity.
DIFFERENCE – Israel was repopulated by heathen nations – hence the half-breeds despised in the days of Jesus. JUDAH – miraculously BECAUSE God HAS HIS EYES SET ON JERUSALEM – remained UNINHABITED and the Jews eventually returned to their land. Jerusalem is THAT important to God.

VERSES RE Judah’s captivity: 2 Chr 36:15-16 – all of the final chapters of 2 Chron are re Judah’s condition and collapse.

EZEKIEL – OUR focus will be looking forward to the prophetic words of Ezekiel, not the situations that got them there.

SOME POINTS:
1. Israel was a divided kingdom – pretty much the TEN northern tribes (referred to as Samaria) and then the Southern Kingdom (referred to typically as Judah). Jeroboam and Rehoboam
How I remember JERO (jerk) – North. REHO (relative of Solomon). Rehoboam ruled in Judah – they fared a better.

2. Daniel and Ezekiel knew of each other. In fact Daniel is mentioned BY GOD in the book of Ezekiel.

Ezek 14: 14
14 “Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only themselves by their righteousness,” says the Lord GOD.

Judah went into captivity about more than 100 years later. You’d sort of hope that Judah might have seen the punishment, by God, on Israel, and then turn from their own wicked way, but they did not. If we fail to learn from others, we’ll often repeat their folly.

EZEKIEL was therefore prophesying FROM CAPTIVITY. He was prophesying to both WARN and to ENCOURAGE the people of God – FOR ALL AGES.
God gives His prophets the full gospel message. Always.

Here’s a LITTLE RE: THE CALL OF EZEKIEL:
Ezek 1:1-3
1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year (likely the 30th year of Nabopolassar’s reign (Nebby’s dad) , in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the River Chebar, that the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.
2 On the fifth day of the month, which was in the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity,
3 the word of the LORD came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the River Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was upon him there.

“Expressly” – Ezekiel was likely hanging w other godly men, but God chose him.
TAKEAWAYS:
A. You want to posture yourself to be that guy to receive, if possible, the “expressly” (find God in the INCONVENIENCE STORE)
B. Don’t declare others weird if they receive some supernatural revelation you haven’t.

Ezek 2:2-5
2 Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet; and I heard Him who spoke to me.
3 And He said to me: “Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day.
4 “For they are impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD.’
5 “As for them, whether they hear or whether they refuse– for they are a rebellious house– yet they will know that a prophet has been among them.

God KNEW in advance that Ezekiel’s message would not be heeded by his audience.
Ezek 3:7
7 “But the house of Israel will not listen to you, because they will not listen to Me; for all the house of Israel are impudent and hard-hearted.

So now the question ought to arise: THEN WHY PROPHESY TO THEM IF THEY WON’T LISTEN???
(ever felt that way?)

1. God is not willing that ANY should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance – so He will speak to people to offer them the OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR.
That’s why there’s so many “he who has ears to hear” verses. HEARING God is a CHOICE.

2. Another answer is found in 1 Peter 1:12 – we read earlier – (writing these things TO US) and in 1 Corinthians (both some of my favorite verses pointing us BACKWARDS so that we might move FORWARD in God:

1 Cor 10:6-11
6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”
8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;
9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;
10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

VERSE 11 ought to destroy any inclination that the OT is old and therefore dead and worthless to us. I needn’t say more to this audience. We’re studying Ezekiel. Bless you.

All that said, the words of Ezekiel ARE FOR US. God already knew that Israel was not going to change its way because Ezekiel spoke to them.

But God WANTED, and therefore STILL WANTS US to understand these words, so that we might be fully equipped in Him – for living through this age, and especially so that we might succeed at the end of the age – when I believe much of this will reach fulfillment.

SEE WHY THE ENEMY doesn’t want the NT church in the OT?
The OT reveals the battle plan of God. It is revealed to the Warrior-Bride of Christ. Speaking of which…

HHY – Mainstay end-times fulfillment prophecy – quoted and therefore validated by the Who’s Who Of the NT.

Ps 110:1-7
1 The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” SIT HERE UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS – it has to reach its climax point – until the fullness of wickedness is ready, and the enemy is prepared for the appearance of the King.
2 The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies! THE ROD OF YOUR STRENGTH WILL BE SENT THE ANOINTED SAINTS
3 Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; in the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, you have the dew of Your youth. NOT A CONSCRIPTED ARMY. LOVESICK WORSHIP/WARRIORS.
4 The LORD has sworn and will not relent, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” JESUS IS THE NT FORERUNNER MODEL OF PROPHET PRIEST – like us in Peter and Rev.
5 The Lord is at Your right hand; he shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. THERE’S INTENSE AND DRAMATIC END TIMES ACTIVITY.
6 He shall judge among the nations, he shall fill the places with dead bodies, he shall execute the heads of many countries. “MANY COUNTRIES” actually should motivate us to contend for the restoration of OUR nation, and all nations – to avoid this judgment destruction.
7 He shall drink of the brook by the wayside; therefore He shall lift up the head.IN THE MIDST OF THE TURMOIL AND TRIBULATION THERE WILL ALWAYS BE REFRESHING AND GRACE IN HIM.

OK – let’s s ALMOST get into Ezek 33.

Ezek 33:1-33
This starts w the accountability of all saints, all of them, notably the ones who have been appointed as watchmen – which arguably could be all of us. This chapter also tells us not IF God brings a sword against A land (note, not simply THE land – not ONLY Israel) – He is God over the whole earth and He deals with all nations.

FROM GROUNDWORK NOTES:
Jer 9:24
Permit me to bullet point that one verse for clarity:
24 But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising
• lovingkindness,
• judgment, and
• righteousness
in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.

That understanding, about which the Lord invites us to rejoice, is that God indeed loves judgment as much as He loves lovingkindness and righteousness, because His judgment is fair and it actually serves to set things back into right order. Mercy surely TRIUMPHS over judgment – it is much desired and in the end will be victorious. But it does not eliminate judgment. He is coming to judge the earth in fairness, so that mercy and love can reign without resistance.

OK – REALLY NOW – Ezek 33
1 Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2 “Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman,
3 ‘when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people,
4 ‘then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head.
5 ‘He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life.
6 ‘But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’
7 “So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me.
8 “When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall surely die!’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.
9 “Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.
10 “Therefore you, O son of man, say to the house of Israel: ‘Thus you say, “If our transgressions and our sins lie upon us, and we pine away in them, how can we then live?”‘
11 “Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’
12 “Therefore you, O son of man, say to the children of your people: ‘The righteousness of the righteous man shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall because of it in the day that he turns from his wickedness; nor shall the righteous be able to live because of his righteousness in the day that he sins.’
13 “When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, but he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous works shall be remembered; but because of the iniquity that he has committed, he shall die.
14 “Again, when I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ if he turns from his sin and does what is lawful and right,
15 “if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has stolen, and walks in the statutes of life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
16 “None of his sins which he has committed shall be remembered against him; he has done what is lawful and right; he shall surely live.
17 “Yet the children of your people say, ‘The way of the LORD is not fair.’ But it is their way which is not fair!
18 “When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die because of it.
19 “But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is lawful and right, he shall live because of it.

SOUND FAIR AND REASONABLE? IT STILL IS.
FIRST – It is the SAME God – who offered this incredible mercy UNDER THE LAW, who tells us He doesn’t change:

Mal 3:6
“For I am the LORD, I do not change; therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

NT REFERENCE – This Ezek 33 – get-holy-stay-holy doctrine remains in effect for us:
Rom 11:21-22
21 For if God did not spare the natural branches (ISRAEL), He may not spare you (THE MOSTLY GENTILE CHURCH) either.
22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.

Rom 11:28-33 – FURTHER – the eventual redemption of Israel – IF folks REPENT (ezek 33:15-16):
28 Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.
29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
30 For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience,
31 even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy.
32 For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.
33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

NOTE; His judgments are not DONE AWAY W in the NT. They continue. Heb 12:25 discloses the Greater Accountability if you’d like proof text.

BACK TO EZEK 33:
20 “Yet you say, ‘The way of the LORD is not fair.’
(A) HE HEARS THEIR COMPLAINT.
(B) THIS IGNORANCE OF HIS WAYS BECOMES AN OPEN DOOR TO FALSE DOCTRINE, EVEN EMBRACING THE DOCTRINES OF THE HEATHEN.
O house of Israel, I will judge every one of you according to his own ways.”

21 And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, that one who had escaped from Jerusalem came to me and said, “The city has been captured!” (Ezekiel was notified about issues going on in the SOUTHERN KINGDOM of Judah)
22 Now the hand of the LORD had been upon me the evening before the man came who had escaped. And He had opened my mouth; so when he came to me in the morning, my mouth was opened, and I was no longer mute. (GOD had, for divine reasons, stricken the prophet and He could not speak).

Ezek 3:25-27
25 “And you, O son of man, surely they will put ropes on you and bind you with them, so that you cannot go out among them.
26 “I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and not be one to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house.
27 “But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD.’ He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.

During this season of MUTENESS, his tongue was apparently loosed ONLY WHEN GOD gave Him something to say. OTHER THAN THAT, he was unable to speak. Meanwhile, there was a lot of PHYSICAL street theater determined for Ezekiel – chapter 4, and 12:5.

23 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
24 “Son of man, they who inhabit those ruins in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one, and he inherited the land. But we are many; the land has been given to us as a possession.’
Humanistic “RELIGIOUS LOGIC” doesn’t alter God’s plans – it’s not a math formula.
25 “Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “You eat meat with blood, you lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood. Should you then possess the land?
26 “You rely on your sword, you commit abominations, and you defile one another’s wives. Should you then possess the land?”‘
27 “Say thus to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “As I live, surely those who are in the ruins shall fall by the sword, and the one who is in the open field I will give to the beasts to be devoured, and those who are in the strongholds and caves shall die of the pestilence.
28 “For I will make the land most desolate, her arrogant strength shall cease, and the mountains of Israel shall be so desolate that no one will pass through.

A consistent theme throughout Ezek – THEN and WHEN.
29 “Then they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.”‘

30 “As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses; and they speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, ‘Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the LORD.’
31 “So they come to you as people do, they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they do not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their hearts pursue their own gain.
THEY GAVE EZEK EAR-SERVICE.
PAUL IN ROMANS:

Rom 2:13
13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;

James 1:22 – But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

32 “Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them.
33 “And when this comes to pass– surely it will come– then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
The “THIS” is the desolation of the land. It took that extreme measure of God. Sadly, that is typical. READ AMOS 4 – and Lev 26 – CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?????

Ezek 34:1-31 – THIS. NEXT CHAPTER CONFIRMS THE UPSIDE DOWN KINGDOM – and here corrective judgment starts from the head down, and then it will be from the church down to world.

NT PROOF TEXT:
1 Peter 4:17
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

Here we see God addressing leadership

OT LEADERSHIP-ACCOUNTABILTY PROOF TEXT – judgment starts from the top down: – Ps 99:6-9
6 Moses and Aaron were among His priests, and Samuel was among those who called upon His name; they called upon the LORD, and He answered them.
7 He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar; they kept His testimonies and the ordinance He gave them.
8 You answered them, O LORD our God; you were to them God-Who-Forgives, though You took vengeance on their deeds.
9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.

God DEALS W SHEPHERDS WHO FAIL TO REALIZE THE ACCOUNTABILITY OF AUTHORITY AND CALLING:
EZEK 34
1 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2 “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds: “Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
3 “You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock.
4 “The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them.
5 “So they were scattered because there was no shepherd; and they became food for all the beasts of the field when they were scattered.
6 “My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill; yes, My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and no one was seeking or searching for them.”
7 ‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
8 “as I live,” says the Lord GOD, “surely because My flock became a prey, and My flock became food for every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My flock, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock”–
9 ‘therefore, O shepherds, hear the word of the LORD!
10 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them.”
11 ‘For thus says the Lord GOD: “Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out.
12 “As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day.

THIS IS YET TO BE FULFILLED. HHY – Hasn’t Happened Yet (in its fullness). The scattered Jews aren’t back yet..

BUNNY TRAIL:
IMPORTANT FOR GENERAL PROPHETIC UNDERSTANDING:
God will often PARTIALLY FULFILL A PROPHECY and then eventually FULLY FILL it.
He’ll help us understand this by establishing MODELS as FORESHADOWINGS.
EX: Moses delivering Israel out of Egypt.
Jesus delivers us out of our bondage.

EZEK 34:
13 “And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land; I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, in the valleys and in all the inhabited places of the country.
14 “I will feed them in good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Israel. There they shall lie down in a good fold and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.
15 “I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down,” says the Lord GOD.
16 “I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong, and feed them in judgment.”
THESE HHY verses look forward to judgment of the bad shepherds. So this has to be NT- pending.

BUT God IS NOT SIMPLY GOING TO JUDGE THE POOR LEADERSHIP.
Every believer is accountable – He will judge how the FOLLOWERSHIP lives. That would be all of us:
17 ‘And as for you, O My flock, thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I shall judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and goats.
18 “Is it too little for you to have eaten up the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the residue of your pasture– and to have drunk of the clear waters, that you must foul the residue with your feet?
19 “And as for My flock, they eat what you have trampled with your feet, and they drink what you have fouled with your feet.”
20 ‘Therefore thus says the Lord GOD to them: “Behold, I Myself will judge between the fat and the lean sheep.
21 “Because you have pushed with side and shoulder, butted all the weak ones with your horns, and scattered them abroad,
22 “therefore I will save My flock, and they shall no longer be a prey; and I will judge between sheep and sheep.

HUGE PROPHETIC REVELATION – The resurrected David – who better to reign w Jesus?
23 “I will establish one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them– My servant David. He shall feed them and be their shepherd.
24 “And I, the LORD, will be their God, and My servant David a prince among them; I, the LORD, have spoken.

SUPPORTING VERSES RE DAVID THEIR KING/PRINCE IN FUTURE DAYS OF PEACE?
Ezek 37:25
25 “Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever.

Jer 30:9
9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

Hosea 3:4-5
4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim.
5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days.

EZEK 34:
25 “I will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land; and they will dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.
26 “I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing.
27 “Then the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase. They shall be safe in their land; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke and delivered them from the hand of those who enslaved them.
28 “And they shall no longer be a prey for the nations, nor shall beasts of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and no one shall make them afraid. HHY. They are dying by the hands of their enemies even as we sit here.
29 “I will raise up for them a garden of renown, and they shall no longer be consumed with hunger in the land, nor bear the shame of the Gentiles anymore.
30 “Thus they shall know that I, the LORD their God, am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are My people,” says the Lord GOD.'”
31 “You are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God,” says the Lord GOD.'”

BREAK??? (TIME CHECK)-

EZEK 35:
Ezek 35:1-15 – God has Ezek prophesying to the heathen nations around Israel:
1 Moreover (AS IF THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH!) the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2 “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir – IDUMEA – EDOM – descendants of Esau – who sold his birthright and could find no place of repentance (HEB 12:7). and then he went away to remain estranged….
This represents all nations estranged from Israel – it represents ANTI-SEMITIC spirits often wrapped in jealousy over God’s people.

BTW: EDOM contains Bozrah (now Southern Jordan) – and we see in Isa that warrior-Jesus, when He returns, comes up from Bozrah, waging a ONE-GOD/MAN war of righteous vengeance:

THIS POINTS TO unquestionably HHY verses in Isa
Isa 63:1-4
1 Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah, this One who is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of His strength?–” I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
2 Why is Your apparel red, and Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?
3 “I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, and trampled them in My fury; their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, and I have stained all My robes.
4 For the day of vengeance is in My heart, and the year of My redeemed has come.
(THIS IS A GOOD DAY FOR US!)

BACK TO EZEK:
(the word of God had come to him again)
2 “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it,
3 “and say to it, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against you; I will stretch out My hand against you, and make you most desolate;
4 I shall lay your cities waste, and you shall be desolate. Then you shall know that I am the LORD.
5 “Because you have had an ancient hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, when their iniquity came to an end,
6 “therefore, as I live,” says the Lord GOD, “I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; since you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue you. (ISA 63 again)
7 “Thus I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it the one who leaves and the one who returns.
8 “And I will fill its mountains with the slain; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those who are slain by the sword shall fall (wait til Ezek 39).
9 “I will make you perpetually desolate (HHY – there people there now, still), and your cities shall be uninhabited; then you shall know that I am the LORD.
(If they knew ALREADY that Jehovah is God (sort of ELIYAHU – God is YHWH), they would not still be hating and raging against Israel today). So this simply has to be HHY.

Historic note – w the kingdom divided into North and South – NORTH in captivity and SOUTH not yet – Ezek was already prophesying of its reunification. ON ONE HAND this has, in OUR TIME, SORT OF HAPPENED – in that the LAND of ISRAEL does not differentiate between the Judahites and other Jews..

…..but in larger measure this remains HHY because there remains 10 LOST TRIBES – and these chapters in EZEK has God saying “ALL OF THEM” will return to the LAND. HHY, I would say.

10 “Because you have said, ‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, (STILL HAPPENING RIGHT NOW) and we will possess them,’ although the LORD was there,
11 “therefore, as I live,” says the Lord GOD, “I will do according to your anger and according to the envy which you showed in your hatred against them (THEY HAD ALREADY HATED THEM before the time of Ezek – they resisted their traveling through their land on the way back from Egypt. This is ancient animosity that continues today); and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you.
12 “Then you shall know that I am the LORD. I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are desolate; they are given to us to consume.’
13 “Thus with your mouth you have boasted against Me and multiplied your words against Me; I have heard them.”
14 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “The whole earth will rejoice when I make you desolate.
15 “As you rejoiced because the inheritance of the house of Israel was desolate, so I will do to you; you shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, as well as all of Edom– all of it! Then they shall know that I am the LORD.”‘

The enemies of Israel don’t yet know that Jehovah (YHYH is Lord). They will – WHEN all these things occur. This is why Paul wrote in Romans 14:11 and in Philippians 2 about EVERY tongue confessing and EVERY knee bowing:

HE WAS QUOTING ISA – a prophecy Isaiah spoke to all the nations – meaning all “People groups” – even pointing to the open door to the Gentiles (goy-im).
Isa 45:22-23
22 “Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. (Don’t waste your time looking elsewhere)
23 I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath.
(Both OATH and VOW are the SAME word – SHABA – from the SHIN root – cut, deal, covenant, oath, peace. Sabbath rest, Shalom peace – See the correlation???)

Chapter 36 – Now we get to God’s PROPHETIC WORD FOR THE LAND – not only the PEOPLE OF ISRAEL – but the LAND.

FIRST – A REFERENCE TO GOD’S OWNERSHIP OF ISRAELI LAND:

Lev 25:1-4
1 And the LORD spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying,
2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you come into the land which I give you, then the land shall keep a sabbath to the LORD.
3 ‘Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather its fruit;
4 ‘but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a sabbath to the LORD. You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard.

Lev 25:18-21
18 ‘So you shall observe My statutes and keep My judgments, and perform them; and you will dwell in the land in safety.
19 ‘Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill, and dwell there in safety.
20 ‘And if you say, “What shall we eat in the seventh year, since we shall not sow nor gather in our produce?”
21 ‘Then I will command My blessing on you in the sixth year, and it will bring forth produce enough for three years.

(TELL THE IDF STORY AND THE TERRORIST TUNNELS)

Lev 25:23
23 ‘The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with Me.

Chapter 36 is therefore God’s NON-NEGOTIABLE pronouncement of eventual reclamation of that which is HIS, for HIS people…. (picture the faith-challenge for bible lovers to embrace this, prior to 1948)

Ezek 36:1-38
1 “And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say, ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD!
2 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because the enemy has said of you, ‘Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession,'”‘ (TEMPLE MOUNT in particular? Are they saying that still, besides in all other places of Israel? This has to be HHY)
3 “therefore prophesy, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because they made you desolate and swallowed you up on every side, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you are taken up by the lips of talkers and slandered by the people”–
4 ‘therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, the valleys, the desolate wastes, and the cities that have been forsaken, which became plunder and mockery to the rest of the nations all around—

DOES GOD regard THE LAND as a LIVING ENTITY???
PROOF-TEXT:
Ps 65:11-13
11 You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance.
12 They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, and the little hills rejoice on every side.
13 The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered with grain; they shout for joy, they also sing.

5 ‘therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Surely I have spoken in My burning jealousy (Huge Hebrew WORD – “QANA” – means both JEALOUS/JEALOUSY & ZEAL – it is not passive, like English JEALOUSY could be. It describes an ATTITUDE OF GOD that in its completeness INVOKES AN ACTION BY GOD) against the rest of the nations and against all Edom (which many regard as the ANTI-SEMITIC spirit worldwide), who gave My land to themselves as a possession, with whole-hearted joy and spiteful minds, in order to plunder its open country.”‘
6 “Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, and the valleys, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and My fury, because you have borne the shame of the nations.”
7 ‘Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “I have raised My hand in an oath that surely the nations that are around you shall bear their own shame.
8 “But you, O mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to My people Israel, for they are about to come.
9 “For indeed I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown.
10 “I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.
11 “I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bear young; I will make you inhabited as in former times, and do better for you than at your beginnings. Then you shall know that I am the LORD.
12 “Yes, I will cause men to walk on you (OBVIOUSLY A DECLARATION TO THE GEOGRAPHY), My people Israel; they shall take possession of you, and you shall be their inheritance; no more shall you bereave them of their children.” (Obviously HHY – so logic would question how any of this ongoing word could be written off, eschatologically, as ALREADY FULFILLED?)
13 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because they say to you, ‘You devour men and bereave your nation of children,’
14 “therefore you shall devour men no more, nor bereave your nation anymore,” says the Lord GOD.
15 “Nor will I let you hear the taunts of the nations anymore, nor bear the reproach of the peoples anymore, nor shall you cause your nation to stumble anymore,” says the Lord GOD.'”
16 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
(HERE GOD REVEALS HE IS NOT IGNORANT OF THE SINS OF ISRAEL – and their “chosen people” title is true, but that “CHOSEN-NESS comes with requirements, as does our Christian “CHOSEN-NESS” – the accountability of covenant intimacy):

Amos 3:1-7
1 Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:
2 “You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.”

And since these are such HOT VERSES, let’s go a little longer in Amos:
3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
4 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing?
5 Will a bird fall into a snare on the earth, where there is no trap for it? Will a snare spring up from the earth, if it has caught nothing at all?
6 If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the LORD have done it? (THAT spoils some folks’ doctrines). Calamity-Causing God. More reference: Isa 45:7….
7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.

VERSE 7 explains why satan, sometimes manifesting himself in the religious spirit, will rage against the ministry of the prophetic, in all ages. RECOMMENDED READING RE PROPHETS
Prophesy, but fear God:
Jer 23
Ezek 13:10 – I write about UNTEMPERED MORTAR on my anonymous blogsite. www.EZ3728.com)

EZEK – We of course know that God loves Israel, but He’s NO CHUMP. He is not returning them to HIS Land/their land because of their righteousness (and for all these thousands of years He has worked to drive that pride out of them. THE END GAME is JEW and GENTILE believers ruling and reigning w JESUS – but it has to occur in TOTAL HUMILITY:

Zeph 3:11-13 – HHY verses, obviously
11 In that day you shall not be shamed for any of your deeds in which you transgress against Me; for then I will take away from your midst those who rejoice in your pride, and you shall no longer be haughty in My holy mountain.
12 I will leave in your midst a meek and humble people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.
13 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness and speak no lies, nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth (HHY); for they shall feed their flocks and lie down, and no one shall make them afraid.”

Ezekiel Class Notes. Finally. Here’s The PRE-CLASS NOTES

I have been asked to post the notes for the Ezekiel Class I taught a few months ago, and I am getting around to it. Curiously, that class and its content has been on my heart a good deal lately, and I am praying into that – perhaps even to circle back and teach all or part of it again in some way, shape or form. Meanwhile, below are the notes I sent out BEFORE the class started. They are called Laying The Groundwork. This portion of prophetic scripture in Ezekiel (Chapters 33-39) is critical to our understanding of God’s priority of Israel during the days in which we live, and the days into which we are headed.

The notes are directly from the class. They might have some references to slides, etc. that were displayed during the class. Bear w me please re those kind of things.

EZEKIEL CLASS – LAYING THE GROUNDWORK

I am sure I’ll be covering some of these points and verses DURING the class, but I did want you to have them in advance, so you might ponder and pray into them, and know where I’m coming from,

Pardon typos. These are my notes. I’ll try to get them right, but there’s lots of ground to cover.

These note and my teachings are my opinion, and I am accountable to the Lord for that.
This is how I see the scriptures. If you see them differently, God bless you.

Ezekiel is a powerfully prophetic book that points heavily towards end-of-the-age activity, particularly as it pertains to God’s plans for Israel.

Regardless of your end-times outlook – all of the scriptures were written for all of the saints, throughout all of the ages. That is why Paul wrote this to his spiritual son Timothy:

2 Tim 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

There are different seasons when the Spirit might highlight and emphasize certain portions of written prophetic revelation, and there are also seasons when new things will be revealed by God so that the saints might move in greater alignment with God, as He moves. That requirement for fresh revelation is divinely intended to keep us desperate for Him, and in prayer, in the Spirit.

It is precisely why the Lord said this to Daniel, as the seasoned old prophet wondered about certain revelations he had received:
Dan 8:26
26 “And the vision of the evenings and mornings which was told is true; therefore seal up the vision, for it refers to many days in the future.”

Jeremiah was told this:
Jer 23:18-20
18 For who has stood in the counsel of the LORD, and has perceived and heard His word? Who has marked His word and heard it?
19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD has gone forth in fury– a violent whirlwind! It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.
20 The anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart. In the latter days you will understand it perfectly.

And we were told this:
John 16:12-13
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
13 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

There are certain things about God and His plans that people will simply not fully know nor understand until the time-seal on those mysteries are unlocked. That doesn’t mean we can’t walk in fullness now. It simply means there’s more, later.

We therefore are invited to walk in that dynamic of knowing that we don’t fully know, trusting that God says what He means and means what He says, whether we fully agree with how He might be planning to do something, or not. He doesn’t ask for the approval of man.

In the caves of Qumran, the Dead Sea Scrolls testified as to the focus and popularity of the writings of Daniel – more copies of that scroll were found than any other. It was that powerfully prophetic writing that prepared those “with ears to hear” to recognize the timing of heaven for the first appearance of their Savior.

At that time, many in Jerusalem wanted synagogue-as-usual. They were even content with synagogue-as-usual when the Romans conquered them, because of their religious status-quo, although blanketed by cruel Rome, for the most part allowed their religious order to remain intact. It was sort of multi-level marketing – you be a rabbi and control your people (and feel empowered by that), and meanwhile I’ll sit in my Roman villa, commanding centurions, who will control you.

But there were others studying the scrolls, doing the prophetic math, looking forward to the season of their Savior’s appearing. Granted, they were unaware of the SECOND coming scheduling, and wrongly presumed when Jesus arrived He’d give the Romans a whooping and all would be well. But God was OK with their ignorance of that point. He had chosen to not yet reveal that to them. That would come later.

Even after His resurrection they did not quite have it accurate, asking Him:
Acts 1:6
6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Nonetheless, for what they were given to understand, they were able to recognize Jesus as Savior, and a good number came to salvation and the church was born, while most of their brethren stood and called for Barabbas to be set free and saying this about killing the innocent One:

Matt 27:25
25 And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.”

And so it has been, for 2,000 years.

Meanwhile God even knew beforehand of that betrayal (it, too, had been prophesied earlier), and in His mercy had already provided for the eventual redemption of a remnant of Israel, meanwhile opening a glorious and wide door for the salvation of the Gentiles. His timing is perfect and His plans are glorious.

This brief class is not intended to place a circle on a date on your prophetic calendar, but rather to look into and hopefully explain WHAT God has said must and therefore WILL occur prior to our Lord’s second coming.

It surely involves all of us as the church. It surely involves the people and the land of Israel.

I believe we will come away from these two classes more convinced of God’s faithfulness, love, relentless pursuit of mankind, and hatred for sin. I pray you will walk away enthralled more than ever about the magic and majesty of the entire word of God.

I humbly contend that the things we’re seeing on the nightly news, internet, etc are markers to alert us that something is going on, on an unprecedented worldwide scale (with much of the darkest evil in the prophesied locations), and that those happenings align with biblical prophecy.

Once again, I personally feel we are in a season of preparation as much as revelation, and that, at this juncture, our to-the-day mathematical conclusions as to the return of Jesus would be unwise. There are simply too many HHY’s (“Haven’t Happened Yet”s) for us to make such religious assumptions. Regarding such timing searches, Jesus made it clear that no man knows the day nor hour. He did not say no one will be able to identify the season, however. Nor did He say there will not be signs preceding His return. To the contrary.

So there are things we won’t know, and there are things revealed to us that we are therefore accountable to look into. We cannot play the Dumb Card. Nor the Too-Busy Card. The Not My Calling Card. Nor any card.

Jesus called religious leaders actors (hypocrites) for not recognizing the signs of their times. How much more are we accountable, now? We can always choose ignorance and denial, but I cannot find biblical reference for that mindset ever bringing success. History has proven the jeopardy of denial. I am personally the only son of an only son of an only son. The rest of my family didn’t feel it necessary to flee Europe during increasing persecution of Jews, and that was prior to World War One.

My prayer for this class is that, in its conclusion, you are more convinced of the inerrancy of scripture, more convinced that Jesus is our only hope, and more convinced that spending your life loving and serving the One who spent it all for you – is the best deal in all of eternity.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?
One of the great things about SOUND doctrine is that it SOUNDS right. It stands the scrutiny of other scripture. There is nothing that needs to avoid being taught or discussed. No new or additional revelation of God will ever contradict the prior truths of God. That is key to us fending off sideways doctrines that will want to invade the church as the times continue. Jude, Paul, Peter, and of course our Lord Jesus warned us in advance of that dark effort. That DOES NOT MEAN that anyone disagreeing with you re future events is your enemy, nor demonized. That position is madness, and divisive. Nonetheless, us knowing what God has provided for us to know will be our best safeguard and assurance of success, in Him.

Got all that?

It would be good for us, even prior to beginning our four hour live study into chapters 33-39, to establish some theological groundwork for our understanding of the current and future-days validity and relevance of these chapters. Simply put, all has not been fulfilled.

I’m confident no Bible-believing saint would question the GENERAL validity of scripture, but the greater understanding is that Ezekiel is not simply prophesying about things that were to come in the near future (shortly after his life, or even only during the first century of the church), but rather that he was indeed speaking about many things that would come at the END OF THIS AGE. We’ll see that most clearly when we read some of God’s promises to Israel. One trip to the Land will confirm they have not yet been fulfilled.

I believe that understanding will guard us from buying into “all the tough stuff is pretty much behind us” mindset that would have us beating our swords into plowshares right now, while it is in fact time to be beating our plowshares into swords – allowing the Spirit to be training our hands for war. In prior recent times folks in Israel have wanted to claim the scriptures of the kids safely playing in the streets with old men hanging out. I don’t think those are popular verses right now. God is teaching the Jews as well as the church.

The conclusion of this theo-drama is not to be compared with any time prior. Daniel told us that (Dan 12:1). Jesus told us that (Matt 24:21). It will surely climax. Our God is indeed a Drama-King. Burning bushes? Red Sea partings? C’mon.

Our understanding of the timing of Ezekiel’s prophesies yet to be fully-filled (I use that to emphasize the FULLNESS in FULFILLMENT) will help us in our learning focus, our prayer focus, and our ability to withstand mindsets that would lull us into a complacency. The jeopardy is the disarmed church, and meanwhile I believe God has purposed for His saints to be heading into a season of greatest conflict and potentially greatest glory. David Pawson, a seasoned theologian from England, stated that one of the big “missing keys” to the Western church being able to embrace end times prophecy is – Persecution. We don’t have that key, yet. Other parts of the world do.

SOME POINTS TO PONDER in establishing this logic trail:

POINT 1. Jesus was not a “fix” that God hurriedly came up with as He watched the failure of mankind to live up to the law of Moses – confirmed by the following:

(The plan for Jesus’ crucifixion was established even prior to the creation.)
Rev 13:8-9
8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear.

(The WAY-EARLY Genesis 3 prophecy of a woman bringing forth a savior who would destroy the works of satan – hinting of a virgin birth since women do not have seed).
Gen 3:15
15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

(The Father has already revealed His purposes in His Son – for that Son to break, dash in pieces and then to rule and reign, to judge the nations upon His second appearing. This was prophesied by David. Since it Hasn’t Happened Yet – HHY, it indeed will happen)
Ps 2:7-12
7 “I will declare the decree: the LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.'” (Hmmm. Sounds forceful, violent)
10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

CONCLUSION 1: Jesus’ first and second comings have been eternally planned, and all of the plans for Jesus, by God, will occur. Jesus’ crucifixion not being a hastily contrived fix – that means God already had His whole Savior-plan in place PRIOR to anointing the Old Testament (OT) prophets to write their prophecies.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND? The fact that His crucifixion was known by God prior to that same God moving upon the prophet Ezekiel, it would be ludicrous to conclude that Ezekiel (or any true prophet) writing about future events as they were led by the Spirit, would put forth anything that would then be erased or over-ridden by Jesus in the first century.

To the contrary, every word of Ezekiel, if indeed Ezekiel was anointed by God, would be CONFIRMED by the appearance of Jesus. God confirms the words of His prophets:

Isa 44:26
26 Who confirms the word of His servant, and performs the counsel of His messengers; who says to Jerusalem, ‘You shall be inhabited,’ to the cities of Judah, ‘You shall be built,’ and I will raise up her waste places;

(Gee that’s a great verse. Beyond “confirming servants’ words, God has a word of Israel’s eventual restoration. Works for us!. HHY)

That said, any doctrine that would be presented to the church, declaring that Jesus trumped or eradicated or invalidated the PROPHETIC MESSAGE of any of the OT saints, and thus changed the plans of God, must be considered suspect.

POINT 2 – The fullness of God is revealed in the fullness of Christ. The fullness of the Salvation Plan was revealed to the world at His first appearance. The fullness of the Righteous Judgment of God will be revealed at His second appearance.

Rev 14:6-7
6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth– to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people–
7 saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”

Jesus being the Word of God, we would do well to not deny any portion of our Christ by attempting to deny any portion of the Word.

(2 Thess. 1:8).
His FULL APPEARANCE has yet to occur. But it will occur. That is THE reason why the book of Revelation is called just that – it’s classic title is “The Book Of The Revelation Of Jesus Christ”. That is the Jesus who is returning. It is the revelation of the fullness of Christ.

POINT 3 – Jesus did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it.
The laws of God remain in place. It is obvious that the requirements of the Mosaic covenant have ended (enjoy your carnitas!), but the laws of righteousness continue. We are not now free to kill or commit adultery because Jesus died for our sins.

Matt 5:17-20
17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
His fulfillment meant He was paying the price for our sins, so that we might, through Him, come into a relationship of intimacy with the Father, and from that place of intimacy, we might then begin truly living righteously.

Had Jesus only declared verse 17, one might conclude there’s nothing left for us to do. Just “enjoy Jesus”. But He did not end His teaching at verse 17. In fact, He clarified that truth with the very next verse:

18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

That verse is huge in that it ought to drive every praying, word-trembling (Isa 66:2) saint back into the OT to read and understand what is yet to be perfectly fulfilled (HHY), down to the last punctuation mark. Every prophetic word. Every righteous instruction for true holy living. Thank God we are no longer required to fulfill the ordinances of Moses – but it should be understood that God’s righteous requirements to His people were presented to them way prior to Mount Sinai and the stone tablets. They were already accountable to Him to be living righteously. As are we.

Further to Matt 5 – Then comes the two-pronged warning label from the mouth of our Lord:
A. Don’t break one of the least commandments; AND
B. Don’t in any way diminish your eternal reward by teaching others that the commandments that remain in effect are unimportant.

19 “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

As if that was not enough, Jesus then goes on to mystify the NT saints by telling them that there were certain elements of the Pharisees that were seen by God as righteous, and that we, the NT redeemed people, by virtue of our potential for intimacy with God, ought to be walking in greater righteousness:

20 “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

The bar has been elevated for us. Greater intimacy. Greater accountability. And yes, greater grace to succeed in Him. Yea God. If you like, read Heb 12:25-29.

Everything that the Lord has told us, through the prophets, will be perfectly and completely and inarguably fulfilled.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT FOR OUR UNDERSTANDING OF EZEKIEL?
1. Much of Ezekiel has yet to be fulfilled – remember Jesus tells us everything will be fulfilled.

2. The righteous judgments of God, THROUGHOUT all of scripture, were often regarded as unfair and unreasonable. That has not changed. That is in fact the doorway for false doctrine.

In fact, since we are told deceiving men will grow worse and worse (2 Tim 3:13), so we can expect the world, through increasing rebellion, to become more and more eligible for the judgments prophesied. Those prophesied judgments will thus become less and less “unreasonable” to the church as we see how wicked mankind will become. Jesus compared the earth prior to His second coming to the earth prior to the Flood. POINT TO NOTE: The world was not improving before the Flood.

3. It is told to us that the OT people spent much time looking for prophets with an easier word than the Word of God (Isa 30:10, 1 Kings 22:8). Some things don’t change.

4. Popular doctrines sometimes teach that God will not judge man for his unrighteousness, even though God Himself proclaims that He delights in judgment, in the same way that He delights in lovingkindness and righteousness IN THE EARTH:

Jer 9:24-26
24 But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.

AND FINALLY:
It is critical for us to understand that Israel is Ground Zero for end times events – regardless as to when you might think end times might be. Israel in fact, the centerpoint for all biblical prophesy (Daniel’s “kingdom of the north” and “kingdom of the south” are all spoken in reference to other nations’ geographical position to Israel, the land of God – Syria being north, Egypt to the south).

There is eternal divine priority on Israel, ordained by God. As much as we like to appropriate Romans 11:29 – the gifts and callings of God being irrevocable (without repentance) to encourage fallen saints of their potential for restoration (I have no problem with that. Amen), but let’s handle the word accurately – those verses are written to describe fallen Israel and its eventual restoration. This season, since 1947, is merely the genesis of that promise. Spiritually it remains for the most part without form, and void (of the true knowledge of God).

Jesus is returning for all mankind, especially for the messed up and stiff-necked people called Jews (my peops). His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, outside Jerusalem. We, the church now comprised mostly of Gentiles, are called to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Satan will try to destroy Jerusalem. Those are priority truths of scripture and understanding that will help you appreciate the promises made to Israel in this portion of Ezekiel.

The Spirit-led obedience, and prayers of the saints, are destined to play a huge part in the success of the Kingdom plans, as we fill the bowls of heaven with praise and worship. Part of our “fervent and effective prayers” will be determined by whether we understand the scriptures, to pray in line with what God has told us He would be doing. That is anointed alignment. That is redeeming the (prayer) time by understanding His will.

If we lay hold of the grace to remain faithful, we win, and we win big. And through it all, the joy of the Lord will be our strength. I love that!

We’re definitely not called to just grit our teeth and simply hunker down and brace ourselves for what is coming upon the earth. Nor are we supposed to ignore that which is told us, by remixing the scriptures to something more intellectually palatable. We are called to set our affections on things above, and to find our rest in Him, assured of His love for us and His ability to keep us and lead us, for His glory.

I am preparing my teachings, and I am preparing myself, for this class. I’ve been through the book numerous times recently – reading, listening, etc.

I pray you will prepare too.
First and foremost, pray and prepare your heart.

If you can, read these chapters before we begin. Ezekiel 33-39. Just 6 chapters. Then read them again.
Read Zechariah 2 and 11-14.
Read Isaiah 52-66.

Notes for the message – Covenanting With God as we enter 2015

COVENANTING W GOD – or – The Holy Spirit version of an Eternal New Year’s Resolution.

Great to be here tonight.
My wife and I got saved the SAME MOMENT (during an offering song) at a Jesus-Movement hippie-church revival wedding service 1973.

We’ve been in the church community in the South Bay throughout the past 42 years – we’ve seen and experienced the good and the bad and the ugly, and we can tell you that
A. God is good and He is the only perfect One worth worshipping, and
B. He is incredibly patient and fair w His people, and
C. If ANYONE is stubborn enough to continue moving forward in God no matter what goes on around them, they are good to go and they can walk in the joy of the Lord.

I can also tell you that
• God is relentless in His intentions,
• That His word is perfect and will surely come to pass and that
• We are invited to tremble at that word, obey it, and
• We will be surely be judged by it.
• The word of God is both dangerously sharp, so we must handle it carefully, but also the safest place to live.

I’ve been teaching the word of God for about 30 years now, and I can say that I am overwhelmed by what the Lord has revealed to me, and in some ways even more overwhelmed by how much I do not know.

The more I understand, the more I realize how much more there is to learn of God. It is amazing.

I was never one to study much in school, and my report cards typically had words in them like “if he would apply himself”. And meanwhile, God has called me to do just that – apply myself to study the word of God. And I admit to being a little crazy about the word of God.

And here’s ONE PRIMARY REASON WHY I AM NUTS OVER THE WORD OF GOD:
(be careful of any nut who comes to a church and immediately opens the book of Revelation…)

THE END BOOK – THE CONCLUSION OF THE ENTIRE BIBLE – The revelation of old-man John – The REVELATION HE RECEIVED regarding THE REVELATION of Jesus Christ:
Rev 19:11-16
11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.
12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.
(BUT THEN WE’RE PRESENTED W SOMEWHAT OF A MYSTERY
THE NEXT VERSE TELLS US HIS NAME: THE WORD OF GOD:
13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

SO WE’RE PRESENTED W THE QUES – ARE THERE TWO NAMES – A Secret, Personal Name that ONLY JESUS KNOWS, OR is He the only One who fully understands the fullness of the meaning of HIS NAME BEING “THE WORD OF GOD”?

And then we see His appearance is marked by Him being AT WAR, coming w all the armies of heaven, and we’re told a SWORD proceeds out of His mouth, w which OUR LORD WILLS STRIKE THE NATIONS.
14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

AND HERE’S YET ANOTHER NAME:
16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

WITHOUT QUESTION: A NAME that God WANTS US TO KNOW JESUS by is THE WORD OF GOD.
Do you see how profound that is? Can you imagine the FEAR instilled into our enemy when he sees a saint equipped w the ONE OFFENSIVE WEAPON of the Ephesians armor?
THIS IS WHY there is so much warfare and NOISE against sound doctrine, by way of false doctrines coming into churches.

JESUS is not simply IN PERFECT ALIGNMENT w the word of God (which He is), or the FULFILLMENT of the word of God (which He is) – He IS the word of God.

Earlier, in his epistle, John tells us that Jesus IS THE WORD OF GOD made manifest in the flesh.

THAT is why I have become obsessed w the word of God – because even though it is a double-edged, sharp and dangerous word – although there is a huge accountability to functioning in the role of “teacher” – knowing and understanding the word in truth and humility is a huge part of knowing JESUS.

This is why our enemy would want to so undermine EVEN OUR ATTITUDE towards the word of God – from:

Intimidation – I can’t and will never understand it; TO
Disinterest – I want something livelier and more exciting than A BOOK; TO
Not For Me – I never was much of a student – leave it to the readers in the group, the intellectuals; TO
It’s A Good Guideline – But let’s not get hung up on an ancient book.

Peter THE FISHERMAN told us that people can even twist it to their own destruction.
I believe it the word of God is in fact purposely booby-trapped by God so that its potential power and authority is reserved for only one group – those who will study in humility, and who will, over time and as they grow in their understanding, tremble at it.

SMITH WIGGLESWORTH – the old English plumber whose wife Polly taught him to read, advised us about where his power and authority came from, and how to get there:
“CONSUME THE WORD OF GOD UNTIL IT CONSUMES YOU”
He was saying – SPEND so much of your life in the word (along w prayer, of course) so that YOUR THOUGHT PROCESSES are OVER-RUN W THE PLANS AND INTENTS AND TRUTHS OF SCRIPTURE.

That is so good!
ISAIAH is an amazing book – in many ways a model of the entire bible – w its 66 chapters in many ways paralleling the 66 books of the bible.
The very last chapter of Isaiah tells us much that we would do well to recognize and embrace – the final chapters pointing clearly to the return of the Lord – THE FINAL CHAPTERS OF THIS AGE – which I personally believe we are in:

Pastor Daniel asked me to perhaps speak sometime about how to study and how to read your bible to get as much out of its as possible, and I think this very first look-see is a great place to demonstrate something that has surely blessed me in my own studies:

1. PRAYING BEFORE I READ – that the Lord would open the scriptures to me/us/whoever’s around; AND
2. READING VERSES IN THEIR CONTEXT – I’ve spoken many times on “PULLING SCRIPTURES DOWN”, in obedience to the Spirit and as appropriate to a situation, BUT FIRST AND FOREMOST I believe you will be MOST BLESSED when you SPEND THE TIME to study the CONTEXT of a VERSE or VERSES that you might be walking into.

SEE WHERE A REVELATION WAS FIRST BROUGHT TO LIGHT, AND WHY.

I believe part of the MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR OF THE WORD is YOU YOURSELF discovering how God woos us into “SCRIPTURE-LAND” by carefully and often planting roses of promise among some necessary thorns of truth. It is for our COMPLETENESS that He does that. It is marvelous when you read scripture that way.

READING THE WORD is an ACT OF FAITH – it says YOU BELIEVE that God will open up the scriptures TO YOU as you apply yourself and STUDY yourself.

A GOOD TEACHER can teach you GOOD THINGS. But you are getting them second-hand. That is OK.
Problem is: A FAULTY TEACHER can teach you FAULTY THINGS – and if you have no revelational defense against those false teachers, you will build a wall out of what Ezekiel refers to as “UNTEMPERED MORTAR”. That term is actually related to UNFOUNDED PROPHECY, but it also applies to UNFOUNDED DOCTRINE. It will eventually crumble.

SLIDE: S.T.U.D.Y.

EXAMPLE OF INVITATION TO REVELATION:
Isaiah 9 – “Unto us a Child is born, and unto us a Son is given, and the govt shall be upon His shoulders….” great stuff.

But have you studied the fullness of that whole chapter to see what it tells you?

It’s so powerfully prophetic – and even timely NOW, w the pertinence of Isaiah 9:11 as it applies to the Sept 11, 2001. It is so obviously prophetically charged w judgment of God on proud nations, and yet our govt, in its blindness QUOTED THOSE VERY SCRIPTURES as if they were a PROMISE OF STRENGTH AND REBUILDING. Well, duh.
We’re not going into those verses tonight – but I invite you to read the whole chapter 11 of Isaiah and see what you come up w in the way of how God tells us He HAS DEALT, IS DEALING, and WILL DEAL w the people of earth.

OK – let’s look at a big chunk of Isaiah 66

Isa 66:1-18
(THIS FIRST VERSE WE ALL KNOW FROM Stephen quoting it in Acts 7)
1 Thus says the LORD: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest?

MEANWHILE – God is finishing His statement of “no place on earth that man builds is truly suitable for my dwelling, but there IS A PLACE I WANT TO DWELL IN” – that place is INSIDE a man or woman who LIVES a certain way and DOES a certain thing:
2 For all those things My hand has made, and all those things exist,” says the LORD. “But on this one will I look: on him who (THIS IS HOW THIS PERSON IS MARKED) is poor and of a contrite spirit, and (THIS IS HOW THIS MAN RESPONDS TO THE WORD OF GOD) who trembles at My word.

God has always had the desire to dwell IN MAN. We were destined to BECOME HIS TABERNACLE. EMMANUEL. THAT is the Christmas message.

God is fine w ritual and liturgy and ceremony, BUT through Isaiah God clearly goes on to tell us that ritual, ceremony and liturgy – EVEN WHAT HE PRESCRIBED AS ACCEPTABLE, without the VERSE 2 lifestyle of TREMBLING, is unacceptable religiosity to Him, and in fact will provoke judgment:
3 “He who kills a bull is as if he slays a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine’s blood; he who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol. (HERE’S THE JEOPARDY): Just as they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations,
4 So will I choose their delusions, and bring their fears on them; because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke they did not hear; but they did evil before My eyes, and chose that in which I do not delight.”

THEN HE DISTINGUISHES the ones who are acceptable to Him and tells them something:
5 Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at His word: “Your brethren who hated you, who cast you out for My name’s sake, said, ‘Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy.’ But they shall be ashamed.”
6 The sound of noise from the city! A voice from the temple! The voice of the LORD, who fully repays His enemies!

7 “Before she was in labor, she gave birth; before her pain came, she delivered a male child.
(A VERSE COMMONLY AND ACCURATELY APPLIED TO THE MIRACULOUS 1948 BIRTH OF THE NATION OF ISRAEL – A true end-times-start-the-eschatological-clock marker)
8 Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her children.
9 Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delive
ry?” says the LORD. “Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?” says your God.

10 “Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all you who love her; rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn for her;
11 That you may feed and be satisfied with the consolation of her bosom, that you may drink deeply and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.”
12 For thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream. Then you shall feed; on her sides shall you be carried, and be dandled on her knees.

13 As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” (WHICH IS WHAT JESUS SAID HE WANTED TO DO, ALL ALONG – Matt 23:37)
14 When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like grass; the hand of the LORD shall be known to His servants, and His indignation to His enemies.

(AND SOME END-TIMES ACCURATE PROPHETIC IMAGERY)
15 For behold, the LORD will come with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire.
16 For by fire and by His sword the LORD will judge all flesh; and the slain of the LORD shall be many.

Feel free to finish the chapter, and the book of Isaiah yourself. It just gets heavier, and we don’t have time to go there tonight.

Isn’t 1-16 great? THAT IS WHAT IS AVAILABLE when we dig into the word for its some of its fullness, as opposed to SHALLOW-DIVING to find a verse that fits our purpose for a lecture.
We’re promised it’s all going to come out in the wash.
It’s all going to get straightened out.
We’re promised that we will see the goodness of the hand of the Lord, while the wicked will see His indignation, big time.

All this is what I refer to as HHY – Hasn’t Happened Yet – but surely will, because our Jesus told us not to think ANYTHING in the law and the prophets is NOT going to happen. ALL is going to be FULLY FILLED, and we are the rest in those un-negotiable truths and promises, and even in the warnings.

OK – now for my message.
LATE WARNING – Lots of Scripture, always- but
1. THAT IS A SAFE PLACE and A TRUE PLACE; AND
2. Because I know this is how the Lord would have ME to minister, I promise you it will be alive w His presence. He’s assured me of that. I get that when I prepare according to His purposes.

2015 – WHAT (DO I THINK) THE SCRIPTURES AS WELL AS THE SPIRIT – in perfect harmony w the SCRIPTURES tell us LIES AHEAD – and what would be our response?

PERSONALLY – I believe we will see more shaking, more judgment in the church as well as in the world. I believe we will see economies MAYBE rebound a little, but eventually crumble. I believe we will see people crying out more for truth than for fiction – IN CHURCH.

I believe we will see the true church of God THRIVE as people focus more on JESUS than on anything else in their lives. I AM TALKING ABOUT SAINTS FOCUSING MORE ON JESUS – even than on their ministries, their giftings, their anything. It is all about JESUS, knowing/loving/serving/walking w/being led by/and if called even dying for the only One worthy.

I think men and women who determine to live and worship truthfully will be more and more lifted up by God but often more and more ostracized from fellowship as well as from society – by ones in church who want CHURCH more than TRUTH.

I think light will shine brighter as the world gets darker.

I think the “WHOLE CREATION GROANING, WAITING FOR THE REVELATION OF THE SONS (AND DAUGHTERS) OF GOD” (Romans 8) will be realized as the sons and daughters of God come into their callings – as God MAKES A WAY for the true saints of God to make more and more costly choices to follow a God who gave all so we could then choose to give all back to Him. HE IS WORTHY, and that worthiness will be made more manifest as we are put into positions and situations that will cause us to recognize Him as our everything.

I believe we will learn the GREATER RICHES OF WORSHIP AND PRAYER AND THE WORD.
I believe are being brought into a season where CHURCHIANITY will become more and more distinguishable from biblical CHRISTIANITY.

I believe God is beginning to LIGHT HIS LAMP – Trembling at the word – I am going to “pull down” a verse from Zephaniah (THE DANCE PARTY BOOK) which I believe was never in the past FULLY-FILLED – so I am of the mind that the entire LITTLE BOOK of Zephaniah contains a BIG MESSAGE regarding END-TIMES FULFILLMENT – so this one verse has to travel forward into that season – pregnant for fulfillment:

Zeph 1:12
12 “And it shall come to pass at that time that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and punish the men who are settled in complacency, who say in their heart, ‘The LORD will not do good, nor will He do evil.’

I believe God is going to go after all of the “believers” – all of the “citizens of the “Jerusalem of faith” – which would be you and me and our brethren – who would dare to try to take the teeth out of the word of God and proclaim God as passive, and not intending to fulfill the COMPLETENESS OF HIS WORD. THAT is NOT who He is.
QANA –Jealous = Zealous in Hebrew..

THAT would deemed refusing to tremble at the word.

SO WHAT DO WE DO NOW?
I believe it is a time for COVENANT RENEWAL WITH OUR GOD – so that we can move forward into deeper places in Him. He wants to be intimate w those wanting to be intimate w Him.

God takes COVENANT very seriously, and always honors His end of the deal – and always calls His saints to honor their end.

(WE GET THE TERM “CUTTING A DEAL” from the Hebraic terminology of “COVENANT”).
That is why CIRCUMCISION is so, Jewish. A CUT COVENANT.

Strong on my heart is our nation having made multiple covenants with THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA countless times in the past – starting w the pilgrims at Jamestown, and running through the Constitution fathers, and forward.

The church left standing at the base of the Word Trade Center (9/11, again, like Isaiah 9:11) was ONE place where our nation covenanted w God that we, as a corporate body, would serve Him.

I believe we’ve been blessed, in large part, because of our IMPERFECT forefathers having reached out to God in covenant relationship.

I believe that as we get closer to the return of the Lord, as the signs of His appearing show up not only in SCRIPTURAL REVELATION but in dreams and visions, and on youtube and foxnews,

It would be good and appropriate for us, as the people of God to:
1. HUMBLY REMIND HIM OF THE PAST COVENANTS OF OUR FOREFATHERS; AND
2. CONSIDER COVENANTING (or RE-covenanting) W HIM AS we move forward into a NEW YEAR – declaring that
A. WE ARE HIS – “The property of Jesus” and because of that:
B. HE HAS FULL OWNERSHIP AND CONTROL OF US, and we commit to that ownership.

SLIDE – SHIN/SPOCK/SABBATH
SPOCK GOT IT – here’s how you LIVE LONG AND PROSPER….

COVENANT was typically entered into by the making of a VOW or OATH or PROMISE – a statement that
SHOULD NEVER BE MADE LIGHTLY,
THAT IS BINDING, and that is
NOT BROKEN WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES.

(ABBREVIATED TEACHING): The SHIN is the ROOT LETTER for
SHABA
SABBATH (rest) and
SHALOM (peace).

The prophetic implication is what the writer of Hebrews tells the Jewish believers – who understand Hebrew and the holy magic of the language can thus be appreciated – there is a SUPERNATURAL PLACE OF SABBATH as we enter into God- in covenant-obedience:

Heb 4:8-10
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.
10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

COVENANT LIFE – This will be the place of our SABBATH (rest) and of our SHALOM (peace) as we cease from OUR OWN WORKS, come into COVENANT w God, in THAT PLACE, the place of SPIRIT-LED time-redemptive obedience…

That word is often translated as SHABA
Eccl tells us better to not make a covenant rather than to make one and break it (A SLIDE Ecc 5:4-6 – which Solomon sadly lived out in his own life as his kingdom collapsed after his death, in large part because HE HIMSELF knew and promised to serve God, and then lived in error).

MEANWHILE Asaph the psalmist sets the higher bar, and tells us this:

Ps 76:11-12
11 Make vows to the LORD your God, and pay them; let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared.
12 He shall cut off the spirit of princes; he is awesome to the kings of the earth.

I believe the Lord is pleased w such pro-activity by the saints, and I thought that would be a great way for us to start looking ahead to 2015 – declaring our position as kings and priests, sons and daughters of the King, AND at the same time declaring that we are THE SHEEP OF HIS PASTURE and the PROPERTY OF JESUS.

COVENANTS AND VOWS are NOT only OT activity.
Jesus not only made a COVENANT in the NEW TESTAMENT – He commanded that all would enter it:

Matt 26:27-28
27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. (I am inclined to read that as “ALL” meaning all the saints from that time forward)
28 “For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

PAUL obviously respected the solemnity of the NEW TESTAMENT COVENANT, even going so far as to put a WARNING LABEL on the COMMUNION – attributing even death to those who purposely and intentionally took lightly this one covenant of Jesus:

1 Cor 11:28-32
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.
31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.
32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

OK?
So I would like to invite us to COMMUNE W GOD right now, as a corporate group.
I would invite us to EXAMINE OURSELVES, and then from that place of self-examination, without bread and wine, but w humble hearts, tell God, corporately, that we are HIS going into this NEW YEAR – that this new year is THE YEAR OF THE LORD, and that we will come into alignment w all of His purposes as He might reveal to us.

THE WRITER OF HEBREWS, looking to the end of the age, definitely confirms the fact that what Zechariah had prophesied to Zerubbabel HAD NOT HAPPENED YET, but was definitely going to happen, told us this:

THE BAR HAS BEEN RAISED IN JESUS, NOT LOWERED. W the intimacy of Holy Spirit indwelling life comes a new level of INTIMACY and also a new level of ACCOUNTABILITY.

Heb 12:25-29
25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,
26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.”
27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
29 For our God is a consuming fire.

If you are out of sorts w God, NOW would be a great time to be IN SORTS w Him.
CALL UPON WHILE HE IS NEAR.
He is near right now.

Shall we pray?

Covenanting with Lord – A message going into 2015

I am hoping this link will work for you being able to listen to a message re covenanting w God.

I believe He’d have us purpose to go deeper, to recommit, and to understand both the opportunity and the accountability of covenant relationship, as we move forward in this age.

Blessings. I am also planning to post the notes to this message, below.
Here’s the audio link attempt: 12_21_2014 Message_mixdown 2.mp3, where it hopefully can be listened to online, or downloaded.

W.I.G.D. – Week Three – Final Notes

These are the notes from the third of four classes – W.I.G.D (What Is God Doing?). If you are going to read anything from this entire class, I suggest you read the second half of this post.

You can listen to the audio of this class at: [email protected] or on the Facebook Page EZ3728. That would be [email protected]

WIGD CLASS – Week Three

MY NOTES – ever-morphing: As you can see from what I SEND YOU and what WE COVER IN CLASS and then cover the following week – I pray I read I write, we discuss, and then I go back into my notes for subsequent classes. We LIKELY will cover most all of what I may write but NOT GET TO, in a subsequent class. Or we may not – as I might feel us perhaps shifting in direction for a subsequent class. Bear w me. I am trying to remain flexible in this.

ONCE AGAIN – I am not putting forth a SPECIFIC TIMEFRAME as to WHAT TIME IT IS RIGHT NOW in God’s plan for the end of the age. I don’t think anyone knows.

But what I do want to build a case for is
THERE DEFINITELY IS AN END OF THIS AGE – 2 Pet 3:4-7

IT WILL CONCLUDE IN HIS RETURN IN FLAMING FIRE – 2 Thess 1:8

THE TIMES PRIOR TO THE END OF THIS AGE WILL BE THE MOST TRYING TIMES EVER – Mark 13:19, Matt 24:21)

I BELIEVE THE PEOPLE OF GOD WILL BE ON THE EARTH DURING THE TROUBLING BUT NOT
DURING THE OUTPOURING OF WRATH – because God’s troubling is to get the unsaved to the place of repentance so that they might avoid the wrath. Matt 5:14, Matt 24:12-14, Rom 10:13-14, Hag 2:7, Ps 78:34, 1 Thess 1:10

I BELIEVE WE ARE REMARKABLY CLOSE.

Although we are definitely not supposed to build our end-times viewpoint based solely upon current events (folks have tried that in the past re Hitler THE Anti-Christ, Mussolini THE Anti-Christ, Gorbachev’s birth-mark being the head-wound in Revelation) – at the same time Jesus told us all that when we see the Abomination of Desolation sitting in the temple, to go read the book of Daniel. The end of Isa 28 also tells us that the natural speaks of the wisdom of God.

And of course Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for their failing to see the signs of their times. So once again it comes to a solid biblical foundation, eyes open as to what is occurring around us, and a life of Spirit-fed and Spirit-led prayer.

Also Paul tells us in Colossians that new moons, festivals, etc are “shadows of things to come”. God uses EVERYTHING to communicate w those who have ears to hear…

IN OUR LIVES we are seeing televised beheadings, axe attacks in the streets in the name of Allah, and other increased violence and wickedness. We likely ought not write these off as a “season of events”. We are seeing increase in intensity and frequency, and notable are the players in this drama, and who they worship, and where it centers – Israel and the Jewish people.

LAST WEEK:
We left off last week in the middle of the section of Matt 5 where Jesus was confirming the ongoing validity of every word, every letter, every punctuation mark of the Old Testament scriptures. This is critical to a COMPLETE understanding of the COMPLETE plan of God – of course to the degree that we are able to understand it – also appreciating that there are things that won’t be completely understood UNTIL SUCH TIME as they are revealed to us.

This is breakthrough in our fullness of understanding.

WE WANT ALL OF THE PUZZLE PIECES ON THE TABLE as we go about pressing in to the plans of God, to investigate WHAT IS GOD DOING – in the earth, in us, in His plans for the completion of this age. And the fact that Jesus made this critical point to us ought to alert us that there would be an effort, on the part of the deceiver, to have us believe otherwise.
Jesus tells us in Matt 5 what NOT TO THINK, and he tells us we’re the light of the world – He would be handing that mantle off to His saints on earth.

So let’s go back a little to re-read what I ended w last week:
Matt 5:14-20
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Then we are told that GOD HIMSELF has determined that WE, HIS PEOPLE, are to actually BE the light of the world, and in that place, we are to be visible – TO THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, for His glory:

16 “Let (ALLOW) your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

This “lighting up” (illumination) of the people is God is therefore God-intended.

(I believe this points clearly to the end-times fulfillment of all things – which is KEY to the understanding of the entire Word of God. ALSO NOTE that the “LIGHT OF THE WORLD” revelation has to do w the time of fulfillment of all things – which to me even speaks to the saints being here and on earth – not raptured out prior to His very return.

That coordinates w Isa 60:1-3 – which we plan to cover later – and also remarkably w this text in Isaiah 40.

QUES – who is God speaking to here? Who would be reading this word, and who would His people be if others of His people would be bringing a word of comfort? – I believe this is written to the NT primarily Gentile church, called to be here to speak comfort in the last days, to the people of Israel – I think further pointing to the church, not simply the yet-to-be-saved Jews – being around prior to His return, to evangelize the heathen world):

Isa 40:1-5
1 “Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God. (SPOKEN TO OTHERS, beside the Jews, who know the same God)
2 “Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her, that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she has received from the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.” (They are still paying for their sins, as they continue living in their sins).

These verses were pulled down to describe John the Baptist, although obviously their complete fulfillment has yet to manifest
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough places smooth;
5 The glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
“ALL FLESH SHALL SEE IT TOGETHER” can only refer to one event, in one time.

ONE THING WE ALL KNOW as well as are seeing right now in the world around us – there is a significant degree of “troubling” (tribulating) already occurring. We are unquestionably living in “trying times” that are increasing in frequency and intensity.

Our response – us pressing in to the purposes of God – is a good thing, no matter what your personal end-times outlook might be. There is simply no upside to shallow, or lazy, or casual, or worldly, living.

And prior to His return, we want to win as many as we can for Christ. I do not need a different doctrine other than the fullness of scripture to motivate me to warn every man. Nothing is more inspirational for evangelism than the truth of scripture. We are no doomsday preachers. We are good news preachers. Jesus is coming back to rescue and reward His people!

And along w the rescue and reward will necessarily be punishment and eradication of that which is wicked and contrary to His holy purposes.

HERE’S TRUTH:
Col 1:28
28 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

I believe that is a call to the saints throughout the age – to warn every man and teach every man. There is something about which to warn them, and as the day approaches, the watchmen want to be in position, warning every man. (ref: Ezek 33 – I believe this was INTENDED for the Jews to be evangelizing THE WORLD. And now that is the call to the church – “when I bring the sword upon A LAND” not simply upon Israel)

The last two weekends my wife and I have been reading the letters to the churches at the beginning of Revelation, and I believe going into those scriptures substantiate my position on the church being here during the time prior to the return of the Lord – and even WHY those seven letters are timely to all the churches in this age, throughout this entire age.

A NEXT CLASS? BTW – I am feeling a next class series will be on those LETTERS TO THE CHURCHES. Please if you remember pray for me re this.

Part of the warfare against holiness is that saints who disagree w such proclamations of “grace” will be accused of being too legalistic.

MATT 5:20 (where we ended last week)
“For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Our SALVATION was purchased by the complete work on the cross.
Our RIGHTEOUSNESS is ascribed to us by the righteousness of Jesus.
Our SUCCESS, meanwhile, is contingent upon us choosing, day by day and decision by decision, and prayer by prayer, to remain in Him, surrendered to Him, and holy.

Just because we are saved and forgiven does not provide us w carte blanche to live as we please. Look what Paul says to the Romans (speaking about the Jews, his own people):

Rom 11:19-22
19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.”
20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear.
21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.
22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.

Paul is associating UNBELIEF with NOT CONTINUING in the goodness of God’s ways. It is not simply about “Oh Lord, help my unbelief”. It is about believing the entire word of God.

AND:

1 Cor 10:6-12 (AFTER PAUL reminds his audience – including us – of failures of the OT Jews):
6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”
8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;
9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;
10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Before we think we are walking on eggshells and that understandings God’s purposes and ways and word are impossible – HERE’S SOME GOOD NEWS:

God WANTS US TO MAKE IT, AND TO FINISH WELL.
HE DESIRES that we know His words and His ways, and He promises us that if/when we choose to dig into it, we will find true revelation (that has to become part of our faith):

Ps 25:12-14
12 Who is the man that fears the LORD? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.
13 He himself shall dwell in prosperity, and his descendants shall inherit the earth.
14 The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.

WHAT DOES PS 25 tell us?
• GOD, by His Spirit, is committed to teaching A CERTAIN GROUP OF PEOPLE – those who fear Him.
• GOD WANTS TO PROSPER HIS PEOPLE – and extend the blessing to future generations.
• GOD HAS SECRETS and those who fear Him will know them, and will be able to SEE the meaning and the mystery of the covenant. Showing those fear Him “HIS COVENANT” extends beyond God revealing His Do’s and Don’ts. It means revealing HIS PLANS.

Here’s a “learning moment” to understand God and His word:
Showing His “covenant” has wider meaning than just RULES, or even what was given to Moses on Sinai. just like in Matt 5:18 (above) – “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled” – We would do well to understand, from other scripture example, that “LAW” and “COVENANT” can have broader implications – exemplified by Paul’s usage of the word “nomos” (gr: law) to mean ALL OF THE OT:

1 Corinthians 14:20-21
20 Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.
21 In the law it is written:
“With men of other tongues and other lips
I will speak to this people;
And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,” says the Lord.”

Paul was quoting Isa 28 as being THE LAW..

This kind of understanding of what the word MEANS is often – and sometimes ONLY – best understood by the word itself.

I’ve heard people of faith say that the Word testifies of the Word – go into it to understand it.
We will see that later as we peek into the book Revelation a little later.

BACK TO THE PROMISE OF REVELATION TO THE SAINTS – FROM THE LIPS OF JESUS:
John 8:31-32
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
DO YOU SEE THE “IF” and the “CONTINUE” and then the promise of the freedom assured in that place?

BIG ISSUE FOR US TO EMBRACE – WARNINGS OF FALSE TEACHINGS – increasing as the age continues….
The NT abounds w warnings and examples of false doctrines, theories and teachings that will be brought into the church in an ongoing and increasing plot to deceive, discourage, distract, and even destroy the church. And if/when folks are not diligently in the Word:
1. They are not alerted to such warnings; AND
2. Are more inclined fall prey to such doctrines, simply because they are not fortified w the knowledge of the truth of scripture.

I believe the harlot of the book of Revelation is the deceived church that will fall under the sway of Satan in the last days, and align itself w a world order that will war against the praying church.

Unlike believing in some misinterpreted ignorance, or teaching something inaccurate and reducing one’s reward (Matt 5:19) – many of the following NEW TESTAMENT warnings go way beyond a “misinterpretation” of scripture.

These warnings are written for us, so that we might maintain our diligence in pressing in to the Word that abides forever:

2 Tim 4:3-4 – WARNINGS ABOUT PEOPLE PURPOSELY TURNING FROM TRUTH
3 For the time will come (certainly PRIOR to the return of Jesus) when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Jude 1:3-4 – EARNEST CONTENTION FOR THE FAITH to counteract false “grace” that would try to assure the church that lewdness and hedonistic pleasure-seeking were OK under the freedom of Christ:
3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Verse 4 speaks of two false doctrines – turning grace into lewdness, and then going so far as to even deny the Lord.

PETER TELLS US that there will be longsuffering for the people of God, a diligence required, and also tells us that rabbi PAUL wrote about these things, and also wrote other things that were not simply to be “skimmed for content” or “shallow-dived” to legalize a Sunday message. He is warning that if scriptures are so treated, they can result in eventual destruction:
2 Pet 3:14-18
14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things (the return of our Lord), be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;
15 and account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation– as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;
THE REMEDY:
18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

PAUL WROTE TO THE CHURCH that ALREADY was being presented w false teachings about the return of Christ – Paul was assuring them there were prophecies of the OT that needed to be fulfilled prior to that event:
II Th 2:1-4
1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him (so we see that WHEN HE COMES we will be gathered to Him), we ask you,
2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us (counterfeit epistles), as though the day of Christ had come.
3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,
4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Although we tend to focus on the appearance of the man of sin (who is yet to appear), Paul reveals that critical one marker of end times within the larger context of saying that the Day of the Lord’s return will not occur UNTIL that has happened.

WARNINGS AGAINST DOCTRINES EASY ON SIN:
In Eph Paul warns of false teaching (of a false “grace” that would make room for sin) and also tells us that God’s judgment will surely include wrath.

Ridiculous as it might seem, there have always been people teaching a “gospel of Christ” that would allow for sin. The letters to the churches in Rev 2 and 3 speak of the doctrines of the Nicolaitans – doctrines that Jesus proclaims “HE HATES”. These will become more prominent in the end times prior to His return.
My personal take on the letters to the churches is that they are not necessarily seasons or church ages, but in fact are characteristics of churches ANY TIME DURING OUR AGE that any church can fall into, or walk in, depending upon their heart-condition. I personally cannot imagine our God telling CHURCH AGES that they would be having their candlesticks removed – as if to imply “Sorry dude, you were born into the wrong church age”. THAT would be the worst form of predestination…..

Eph 5:5-6 – the warning to the ones who should already know this fact – but sadly were being offered contradictory doctrines within the church:
5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Col 2:2-4 – Here Paul, in telling the church that the fullness of God is complete and hidden in Christ, is also warning the church about wasting their time and perhaps even jeopardizing their salvation, by going after “intriguing stuff” that promises greater insight into the things of God – by going beyond Jesus.

There is a fine balance between pressing into the deeper things of God, and simply getting spiritually weird or cosmic for weird’s sake. THAT is dangerous.

MAKE SURE THEY ARE THINGS OF GOD.

I believe the ignorance of the church, to the scriptures, will factor heavily into some of the elect being deceived by the lying signs and wonders spoken about as end-times occurrences:

Col 2 (Paul’s prayer):
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and (thereby, in the place of love-unity – each part doing its share) attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
WHY IS HE TELLING THEM THAT?
4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.

Gal 1:6-9 – THE BOOBY TRAPPED PRIORITY OF THE EXISTING TRUTH
Here Paul is so adamant about what he had already revealed as the gospel of Christ as being the complete truth of God, he sets up a “POISON PILL” as a booby-trap against his own falling away – were that to ever occur.

1 Cor 9:26-27
26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.
27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

He understood the warfare coming against the teachers and revealers of truth, and the price and importance of that truth:

THE BOOBY TRAP CURSE OF PAUL:
Gal 1:6-9
6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,
7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

THERE’S MORE WARNINGS – Jude – “spots in your love feasts”, etc.

We are clearly warned of ongoing and increasing assault against the truth of scripture – but it ought to pique our senses to be aware of such workings as the end of the age approaches.

And we also need to understand that God is not mocked. If men WANT to hear garbage, God Himself will allow that to occur – as a punishment.
This strong word is a TRUTH, but is an EXTREME case. This is NOT about folks who simply
“don’t press in” or “don’t understand” – this is about people who would have pleasure in unrighteousness and continue in their lies, until they would reach a place where God would say:
“enough is enough”

This pertains to end-times, the coming of the anti-christ, and to those who refuse to receive the knowledge of the truth. FOR THE MOST PART I am of the mind these verses are for those OUTSIDE the church, although verses 14 and 15 are an admonition TO THE CHURCH not to get hung up in the lies – so that jeopardy has to be understood, by us, as existing.
Furthermore, if the HARLOT of the book of Revelation IS THE MASSIVE END-TIMES RELIGIOUS ORDER, it will include large segments of the deceived church. So this is written for us all to understand.
II Th 2:9-15
9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,
10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,
12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,
14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
TO THE BRETHREN
15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.

We want to be pressing in to God, submitted to His will, in His word, in prayer.

The times we are living in are troubled times.
I believe the word of God tell us the times coming up are times of purposeful troubling – by God, to draw men to Himself.

WHAT TIME IS IT?
Good question.

PLEASE REMEMBER – I am in the process of discovery of all this, as are you. I am putting forth MY OPINION based upon what I have studied, in the Word of God first, and then in the writings of others.
You may have been taught differently.
You might personally believe differently.
That is fine.
Like we’re told in Daniel, and as we read before, some things will not become clear until they come to pass in their time, and/or when the scriptures are opened up to the saints in that time.

BUT THE CHALLENGE to us is to be IN PRAYER, in the WORD, in that place of Divine Desperation so that we do not miss what God might indeed be revealing in our very time.

Here’s my thinking.

The “book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ” is a series of visions and revelationS (plural) given to John, to convey to US, believers, so that we might have some understanding of things to come.

The symbolism of the book of Revelation is SOMETIMES explained within itself, in the book of Revelation, but IF NOT is most often represented elsewhere in scripture, primarily in the OLD Testament.

God has left us the entire bible so that we might understand the entire bible.
There is a “language of prophetic symbolism” conveyed in the scriptures, and becoming familiar w some of that language in ONE PLACE will help you understand other portions of scripture where the same language is used. The prophets who wrote the NT were students of the OT. They had the language in them.
Sadly, even as our ACCESS to the bible has increased, for the most part our BIBLICAL literacy has in many ways decreased, and that can open doors to deception and misunderstanding.

I DO LOVE THESE VERSES – I believe they apply to the end of this age, as Jews come to their Messiah.

It begins w a word of correction for their stubbornness, and it concludes w a promise of blessing as the word is taught in truth – which will posture the people correctly to receive the blessings of God:

Isa 30:19-23
19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you. (THEY NEED TO CRY OUT TO THEIR MESSIAH)
20 And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction (THEY’LL UNDERSTAND THAT, THEN), yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes shall see your teachers.
21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.
HOUSECLEANING OF ISRAEL, FINALLY
22 You will also defile the covering of your graven images of silver, and the ornament of your molded images of gold. You will throw them away as an unclean thing; you will say to them, “Get away!”
23 Then He will give the rain for your seed with which you sow the ground, and bread of the increase of the earth; it will be fat and plentiful. In that day your cattle will feed in large pastures.

OK – REVELATION SPEAKING ABOUT SOME END TIMES SITUATIONS – and what time we might be in:

Rev 13:1-4
1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.

“SEA” is typically, biblically, a representation of gentile humanity – it is presented to us as a SEA, w explanation, in Rev 17:15 – a chapter we’ll look at next):

2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon (Satan) gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. (The beast was NOT a leopard, bear or lion. It had characteristics of those wild and unreasonable powerful animals). Those same animals were in Daniel’s vision in Dan 7. Lion represented Babylon, the Bear = the Medo Persian Empire, and the Leopard represented Alexander the Great (Greece) – so we have that “map legend”.

And the beast looks like something happened to it that should have killed it, but did not:
3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast.

Remember, Revelation is revealed to John WAY after the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, and Greek empires had risen and fallen. What we are seeing here is a partial picture telling us that the end-times evil will be an ACCUMULATION of the demonic “anointings” of all the prior anti-Jewish, anti-God empires – these three having been concluded at the time of John.

The resurrected beast of Revelation is so amazing in its coming back to life, and is so aggressive in its activity, that the nations marvel and conclude the beast is unstoppable, and therefore must be worshipped.

The world will have concluded, for some reason(s) that the beast was quite dead.

4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

BUT LOOK AHEAD TO some explanation kindly given to us elsewhere in Rev 17:

Rev 17:1-18
1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls (containing the wrath of God – to be poured out on the wicked – Rev 15) came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, (THIS HAS YET TO OCCUR)
2 “with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”
3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman (the harlot – Babylon) sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. (the consummation of evil anointing of the seven primary demonized empires that waged war against God and His people throughout the ages)
4 The woman (THE FANCY HARLOT) was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication.
5 And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

This is end-times vision – and the woman is drunk w the blood of the saints.
6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.
7 But the angel said to me, “Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.

8 “The beast that you saw was (manifested in part in times past), and is not (some of the revealing of the satanic activity was not yet apparent on earth at the time of John’s experience), and will ascend out of the bottomless pit (get its authority directly from Satan) and go to perdition (will eventually be completely destroyed). And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. (sounds like LIVE, DEAD, then ALIVE again in their time of marveling).

9 “Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.

SOME WHO BELIEVE in a confederacy of European nations will say that the harlot is Rome, even the Catholic church, aligned with the demonized kingdoms of the earth in a confederacy that is religious, military, and economic. Possible.

Others will say that the MOUNTAINS have nothing to do w Rome, or a corrupt papacy (including a corrupted Protestant church) – because Rome is on HILLS and not on MOUNTAINS, and the words in Revelation are specifically MOUNTAINS (OROS) and HILL (BUONOS). Secondly, Richardson points out that modern Rome sits on the ten HILLS not seven HILLS – although a reference to its location at its pinnacle of power cannot be discounted.

Another point made is that MOUNTAINS, in scripture, are often symbolic of COUNTRIES – like Obadiah’s prophecy against MOUNT SEIR – which was a prophecy against the Edomites. THAT foundational example has to be embraced in any safe interpretation.

SELL-OUT OF THE CHURCH: I personally think there will be a huge sell-out of much of the established church in the end-times – we read that last week when Jesus said the time will come when people who martyr His saints will believe they are doing God a favor.

And the warnings we read earlier of bad doctrines, some exempt demonic doctrines, coming into the church confirms the turning away, because of corruption, of much of the church…

REV 18 – could this mean COME OUT OF THE HARLOT CHURCH, or COME OUT OF THE HARLOT WORLD SYSTEM?
Either interpretation – there is a call to the saints to identify something wicked and ripe for judgment, and to get out of it quickly:

Rev 18:3-5
3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.”
4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “ Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.

BACK TO REV 17
10 There are also seven kings (KINGS MEANING EMPIRES RULED BY SUPREME RULERS). Five have fallen, one is, (I believe the “IS” was the current tense for the then-in-place ROMAN EMPIRE) and the other has not yet come (AS OF THE TIME OF WRITING OF THE REVELATION). And when he comes, he must continue a short time.)

The Empires that have historically shown themselves to be fully anti-God, anti-people of God, and fully demonized in their hatred for Israel are:
1. Egypt
2. Assyria
3. Babylon
4. Medo-Persia
5. Greece
(FIVE HAVE FALLEN at the time of the writing of the book of Revelation)
6. Rome
(ONE is)
7. ?
“THE OTHER HAS NOT YET COME”.

The one who “has not come” has been open to speculation for thousands of years.

NOTE TO CHURCH – Logic would tell us that any ANTI-GOD final, end-times, culmination-of-all-things-evil demonized kingdom would not simply be ANTI-JEW. As a believer in the Messiah, they will also be ANTI-YOU.

THE BEAST is the beastly, unreasonable and untamable demonized spirit that incites each of the KINGDOMS. Throughout time the demonic similarity of the primary evil kingdoms has been the same, even with some differences as to how the empires functioned, their spirit of bestial and vicious destructive rule is similar.

The demonic DNA of the satanically inspired beast is in them all:
11 “And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition.

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast.
(This verse could point to perhaps 10 already-existing nations – as of the time of John’s writing – but which have not yet been fully ignited to their end-time cause).

For the sake of where I am going, consider the possibility that those end-time horns are Islamic nations and not European nations. I am personally inclined to believe that.

13 “These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.
(ONE MIND – they have something very much in common. Could it be their dark, demonic faith?. Interesting, unlike WW2 axis powers, who were Shintu, pseudo-Christian/Aryan, and pseudo-Catholic)

14 “These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”

15 Then he said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. (water and seas explained for our convenience)

INTRIGUE AND TURNING AGAINST THE HARLOT:
16 “And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.
17 “For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.
18 “And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
(WHICH IS BABYLON, the harlot, who is not destroyed until the end of the age)

ALL THAT IN PLACE, very briefly, let’s go back to what we discussed a week of two ago – that certain elements of any prophetic declaration might not be discernible until a certain series of events have played out on earth.

We know that all of the demonically motivated empires prophesied about have this in common:
They are purposely warring against God – there is no “geo-political agenda” masking their contempt towards the God of Israel and His people.

It would be wisdom to conclude that the last such empire would be not only like-spirited and like-motivated, but also increasing in their rage and intensity. It will be the fullness of the accumulation of the demonized spirit of anti-Christ.

Some of the advantage of being in OUR TIME, RIGHT NOW, w all that is occurring around the world, provides us w a broader palette of understanding of the end-times plans.

EXAMPLE AND POINT:
“THE MIDEAST BEAST” – a much recommended book by Joel Richardson, brings forth this intriguing and startling possibility, perhaps most accurately understood, in our days – something the nineteenth century commentators JAMIESON FAUSSET BROWN would have obviously seriously struggled to embrace, w “Mohammedism waning” (as we read last week) during their days:

“What adds so much weight to the notion that the final two empires are in fact Islamic empires is the historical reality concerning the downfall of the Islamic Caliphate. Shortly after Muhammad, the founder and prophet of Islam, died, his companions and family took up the role of leading the Muslims. Muhammad’s close friend and father-in-law, Abu Bakr, became the first caliph. The period of rule under Abu Bakr and the next three caliphs is known as the Rashidun Caliphate. Following the Rashidun was the Umayyad Caliphate, then the Abbasid Caliphate, and eventually the dominion of much of the Muslim world fell to the Ottomans.

When we generically refer to the “Islamic Empire,” or the “Islamic Caliphate,” we are including the various aforementioned dynasties, which together ruled the Islamic world for more than thirteen hundred years. But this pan-millennial Muslim government was, in fact, beheaded in 1924 when Turkish secular reformer Mustafa Kemal Atatürk abolished the universal Islamic government known as the caliphate and the office of the universal Islamic leader known as the caliph.

The formerly unified empire was fractured into modern nation-states. Today, as the Western powers vacate the Middle East, the power of the Ottomans is regenerating. The head wound is being healed, and the Islamic Empire is reviving.”

IF IF IF Joel Richardson is correct, and his logic appears biblically sound, then THIS verse in Revelation is being activated, in our time and on our watch – a currently resurrecting Islamic Caliphate – the eighth coming out of the seventh, alive although it will have appeared to have been dead – having been done away w by Mustafa Ataturk in the early 1900’s (there’s a specific point to all this, for us – “what time is it?”):

Revelation 13:1-3
1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.
2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.
3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast.”

REMEMBER in Daniel 7:
The LEOPARD represents Greece
The BEAR represents Medo-Persia
The LION represents Babylon

The geographical general land-mass of these three empires overlays the land-mass of the original Islamic Caliphate. The theory of a 10-nation European confederacy does not overlay that same land mass. But the LENS of a EURO-CONFEDERACY made sense while “MOHAMMEDISM WAS WANING” (remember we read that last week from an old commentary).
We likewise need to be careful to not plant our flag in a belief until such time that all the puzzle pieces are more clearly in place – which I believe God will do for us.

Joel Richardson’s theory that the mortal wound was the first demise of the caliphate (1924), and now the resurrected caliphate is the healed beast, could have profound implications as to where we might be in the eschatological timeline. We are seeing this occur right now…how many of us even understood or heard the “caliphate” until the past year or so? How any of us looked, at all, into the roots of Islam, prior to 9/11?

If that is the case, – if the currently-resurrecting caliphate is, perhaps the 8th empire coming to life again, then it’s surely no wonder God is moving so purposely upon the saints right now, shaking everything that can be shaken, both inside and outside of church.

Just thinkin’…

I am amazed by the tenacity and conviction of many godly men who have written w the complete assurance that how they see this playing out it is how it will play out.

Personally, I think the wisest of scholars will all be doing some readjustment of their theology when the fullness of the plan is revealed.

REMEMBER THESE WORDS IN DANIEL:
Things are sealed up til the end of the age, and

Also REMEMBER what was spoken of by the Lord in Jeremiah regarding God’s violent judgment on the wicked state of affairs that have reached their culmination, their boiling point:

Jer 23:18-20
18 For who has stood in the counsel of the LORD, and has perceived and heard His word? Who has marked His word and heard it? (ANS: W perfect understanding? None of us)
19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD has gone forth in fury– a violent whirlwind! It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.
20 The anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart. In the latter days you will understand it perfectly.

FOR US – BACK TO POINT – the Word, and pressing in to understand it:
We can see, clearly, and in scripture, that the mysterious and great works of God are sitting there, available for study by “those who have pleasure in them”. God has loaded the study of His works w pleasure!
Ps 111:1-2
1 Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.
2 The works of the LORD are great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them.

And yet we get intimidated by the word of God, as if we can’t break into it. It almost sounds like a CATCH-22 – sort of like “You can’t get credit until you have credit”

THE CHASE:
But the reality of the Kingdom is that GOD HIMSELF knows how to identify those who will come after Him, chase Him down, and press in to understanding His word.

SPEND YOUR LIFE ON HIM, and on knowing Him.

W.I.G.D. – Week Two – Final Notes

What Is God Doing These Days?
WEEK TWO

The audio of WEEK ONE is now available online at either podbean.com then search for ez3728, or else on Facebook, on the ez3728 page. Pardon the buzz at the beginning of the first session. It starts up, stops, starts up, then ends quickly.

ONE THING I WANT TO SAY TO DIFFUSE POTENTIAL FOR “END-TIMES PANIC mode”: The end of this Age, for the saints, is a GOOD THING and not a BAD THING. (getting there is an adventure, but unavoidable, and quite worth it).

The “GREAT AND DREADFUL DAY OF THE LORD” phrase comes out of Malachi, the last book in the OT:
Mal 4:5
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

It means it is AWESOME. The awesomeness of God is revealed in that day, and in the timeframes prior to that day. And there’s of course other scriptures that give us insight into what to expect, many of which reveal the violent plan of God:

VERSE 4 is KEY FOR US. The “day of vengeance” for the WORLD, is actually the day of deliverance for His redeemed.

Here’s another clue to this being a GOOD DAY for those in His will:
Zech 14:1-5
1 Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, and your spoil will be divided in your midst.
2 For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; the city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle.
4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley; half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south.
5 Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, for the mountain valley shall reach to Azal. Yes, you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Thus the LORD my God will come, and all the saints with You.
(It’s obvious that “all the saints with you” points clearly to the return of Jesus – as Paul said in
Thessalonians:

1Thes 4:16-18
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
AND LOOK AT VERSE 18 – the disclosure of this prophetic plan by Paul, to us, is to provide us with comfort.

So what we are seeing is that when the Lord returns, the tribulations and troubles that the saints will be going through will be concluded, and the Day Of The Lord will be a GREAT day for the people God, but quite a lousy and terrible time for those raging against Him.

Further to our understanding of how good that day will be for us, are Psalms 96 and 98. They point to a positive forward outlook to God’s judgment. It will be THE DAY when things get straightened out…

Ps 96:9-13
9 Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns; the world also is firmly established, it shall not be moved; he shall judge the peoples righteously.”
CREATION IS LOOKING AHEAD TO THE DAY…
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the LORD.
13 For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth.

The judgment of God on earth will be a GOOD THING. It will be a perfectly fair and equitable judgment, because it will be conducted in righteousness.

Here’s encouragement to sing and shout joyfully PRIOR to His return, and in anticipation of His return, because we will AT THAT TIME see the equity of His judgmenset

This prescribes PRE-JUDGMENT DAY WORSHIP:
Ps 98:4-9
4 Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
5 Sing to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of a psalm,
6 With trumpets and the sound of a horn; shout joyfully before the LORD, the King.
7 Let the sea roar, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell in it;
8 Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills be joyful together before the LORD,
9 For He is coming to judge the earth. With righteousness He shall judge the world, and the peoples with equity.

So what we are seeing here is that the world will become increasingly more wicked, and in some ways the saints might become more and more frustrated and in many cases tormented by the sin around us. But our HOPE is in HIS JUDGMENT.

Last week we ended discussing some Foundational Concepts of scripture that, if we understand them, will help us embrace the NATURE of the revelation of God’s plans FOR MAN, in THESE DAYS, going forward. These Foundational Concepts actually help us in all of our understanding of all scripture, btw..

FOUNDATIONAL CONCEPTS
1. Some things are biblically revealed BY SPECIFIC SCRIPTURE.
2. Some things are biblically revealed BY EXEMPLARY RECORDING of past events (how God acted or reacted)
3. Some things are biblically revealed by EXPLANATIONS given to us over PORTIONS OF SCRIPTURE. Example: ESCALATED RESPONSE as in Lev 26 or Amos 4, cited last week.

ONE KEY FOR US TO KNOW IS THIS GLORIOUS TRUTH, thoughtfully provided FOR US, in the final OT book of the Christian bible, so it helps us in our going forward into the NT to realize God’s personality did not change between testaments – contrary to many popular teachings – OT=ANGRY GOD. NT=HAPPY GOD.

Malachi 3:6
” 6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.”
That means that what we can learn of God in the OT can be brought forward in our understanding as to who He is and how He acts, in the OT. He does not change, and because of that, all mankind is not consumed.

That is a critical revelation.

(I’ve rewritten this for clarity of understanding)
Along w the proof-of-fulfillment cited by NT prophets of many ALREADY-FULFILLED OT prophecies, there is a confirmation of the ongoing “pregnancy” of the yet-unfulfilled OT prophecies (Matthew, especially, wrote NINE TIMES: “that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by…..”) –

..it would be senseless and foolhardy for us to write off the Old Testament as dusty, musty, and done.

Within the OT writings are purposely seeded revelations of what is yet to occur, so that WE can be aware of our God’s PLANS, as well as aware of His means and methods to accomplish His divine purposes.

God has been, is, and will be, the same God, always.

His MERCY kept the Jews from being fully destroyed, in the OT. that is the same FOR THEM (the Jews), and also will continue to be, FOR US (the believers in Jesus, mostly Gentile), through the end of this age, no matter how tough it might get.

STILL, w His great mercy and delivering hand, that does not mean there will not be martyrs and ones who will suffer great loss or great discomfort for the sake of the Kingdom of God. We know that from both testament accounts. we have brethren being martyred today.

But the overall context of the entire biblical account is NOT about the sufferings of the people of God. It is about the GOODNESS of God.

The Book of Acts is not about the persecution of the church, although there’s definitely persecution.

Likewise the prophetic accounts of yet-to-happen events is primarily about God dealing w an unsaved world, and NOT about how much the church will suffer, although there’s clear warnings there will be sufferings and trials for the saints – in part because there world will be getting darker, and that darkness will hate the light, which will be you and me.

And at the same time, we are invited to realize that God will utilize the conditions on earth to perfect His people, to mature us, to purify us and to prepare us to rule and reign w Him in the forthcoming age. some of that purification and preparation will be tough events and situations. read Ps 66…refinement…

If the world is going to increase in its wickedness – which is typically the case prior to judgment, then the light will be lighter while the darkness gets darker. And this is what is to be expected

Prov 29:27

27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, and he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked. Our righteous living will cause US ago be an abomination to some. Unavoidable.

What did Jesus tell us about persecution of the righteousness by the unrighteous (in this instance, the religious unrighteous)?

John 16:1-3
1 “These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble.
2 “They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.
3 “And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.

And what does Paul tell us?
2 Cor 2:14-17
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
TWO GROUPS – WILL EACH RESPOND DIFFERENTLY TO US:
15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?
INTERESTING TO NOTE that v 17 implies there will be peddlers of the word of God who will compromise for the sake of compromise. That kind of “worldly relevance” is its own reward – you might be accepted by man, but you will eventually be rejected by God.
17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

This resistance to what is holy is to be expected. The temptation for the saints will be to compromise, so that we might fit in, and yet God has purposely called us to NOT fit in.

PRE-FLOOD CONDITION OF THE WORLD – prior to the judgment by Flood:
Gen 6:5-8
5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
7 So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

looking forward: PROPHESIED CONDITION OF THE WORLD – prior to the judgment by Fire:

2 Tim 3:12-14

12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,

What I believe we are seeing is an increase in that “wickedness-index” – which will rise until the return of the Lord.

God knows when the iniquity of the world is ripe for judgment:

Gen 15:13-16

13 Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.
14 “And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.
15 “Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age.
16 “But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.”

But we can be assured that when God determines it is time to judge the world, the iniquity will be complete and the prophesied judgments will at that time seem quite fair and equitable, and the church, the praying church, will not be trying to TEACH A dialed-down message about God’s forthcoming judgment on the earth – as it is sometimes inclined to teach now. I don’t see my bible telling me the world is getting better – until the return of Jesus the righteous Judge.

LAST WEEK – We looked a little at the beginning of this text, but now going further:
A Favorite portion of scripture for me:
Jer 9:24-26
24 But let him who glories (boasts) glory in this, that he
A. understands and
B. knows Me,
(AND HERE’S WHAT HE NEEDS TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND)
that I am the LORD, exercising
A. lovingkindness,
B. judgment, and
C. righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.

This is immediately followed by a promise and a warning, looking forward to all-world judgment “in the earth”):
25 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “that I will punish all who are circumcised with the uncircumcised–
26 “Egypt, Judah, Edom, the people of Ammon, Moab, and all who are in the farthest corners, who dwell in the wilderness. For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.”

Wow – if we only understood and knew that – and recognized how muc, in its fullness, has NOT HAPPENED YET (HHY), we’d have a clearer picture of end-times plans and accountability, and also why we are called to WARN ALL/EVERY MAN (Paul in Colossians).

We also will do well to appreciate that some of God’s plan, will only become known AS IT UNFOLDS.

Another Kingdom Activity To Inform The Saints – TIME RELEASE REVELATION: There are other things that will only be revealed in their time, per God’s time clock. it does keep us desperate to press in.
Certain things are purposely sealed by God Himself, until the appropriate time:

Example: Daniel 12:1-10 – which is very much end-of-age focused:
1 “At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of trouble,
Such as never was since there was a nation,
Even to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,
Every one who is found written in the book.

(Obviously speaking of the REAL times of tribulation – at the end of the age when all saints will appear – which could not be 70AD, as many popular doctrines want to assert – as confirmed by verse 2, below):

2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
Some to everlasting life,
Some to shame and everlasting contempt.
BTW: Dominion theology would require a 2,000+ year period inserted between verse 1 and verse 2.
3 Those who are wise shall shine
Like the brightness of the firmament,
And those who turn many to righteousness
Like the stars forever and ever.

TIME-RELEASE REVELATION
4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
5 Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank.
6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?”
7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.

8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?”
9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

AND HERE WE SEE THE PROMISE/WARNING that God will utilize the trying times at the end of the age to accomplish a perfecting work in His people:
10 Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand

(I personally don’t think the group in 12:10 refers ONLY to those who will COME TO FAITH during those times, but refers to saints. My opinion is based on the a verse in Dan 11):
Daniel 11:35
” 35 And some of those of understanding shall fall, to refine them, purify them, and make them white, until the time of the end; because it is still for the appointed time.”

I believe the purification work does not END when one gets saved. In many ways, it begins.

Re: interpretation differences – speak re Baron and the scroll, and Baron and the basket…..
(Abstract Art?)….

In addition to God’s PLAN to keep certain things hidden til the end of the age, our great God also knew (and knows) that mankind is often limited in our abilities to discern certain spiritual truths until certain events are upon us.

I BELIEVE THIS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE, below:
BACKGROUND – A most popular belief re the end-times ten-nation confederacy is that it will be Euro-nation-centric.

SCRIPTURE – demonically energized kingdoms:
Rev 17:12
12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast.

A Europe-centered 10-nation confederacy is what has been most popular for the past 1500 years – but it is steadily being questioned, and as world events unfold in front of our eyes every day, the concept, and credibility of it being Islamic-nation-centric makes more and more sense – and if that is the case, there are some hints that the confederacy is forming right now.

I read three commentators from the 19th century – Jamieson, Fausset and Brown.
But here I think they may have fallen prey to scripture-interpretation based on the LENS-OF-THEIR-DAY – a geo-political lens through which they viewed future events. LIKEWISE, of course, we have to be careful to not be totally influence by OUR lens, unless/until things become clearer on earth.

(Jamieson, Fausset, Brown commentary on Dan 8):
“The event, however, may, in the case of Antichrist, show a correspondence between the days here given and Da 9:27, such as is not yet discernible. The term of twenty-three hundred days cannot refer (to) twenty-three hundred years of the treading down of Christianity by Mohammedanism, as this would leave the greater portion of the time yet future; whereas, Mohammedanism is fast waning.”

“FAST WANING MOHAMMEDISM” was the commentator’s perception of Islamic spiritual activity. That was their lens of understanding.

It is no wonder certain true revelations of events have to be sealed til the end of the age! Who’d believe certain events before things unfold in front of our eyes?

(These same guys – JFB – did, however, get the restored-Israel-nation prophecy right, before 1948!)

JFB – who I respect and read, had some beliefs and theories that I believe to be off kilter – one being their staunch pre-destination belief.

BACK TO OUR POINT re progressive understanding as time goes on, JFB cited a belief by another commentator that the final 7 years of tribulation could come about in the 1870’s. Oops.

Conclusion for us: there are things that will remain speculative until they occur. This goes back to OUR greatest takeaway being the urgent call to intimacy and surrender and alignment to God and His words, and His plans as we understand them.

And meanwhile we need to recognize the urgency for us to come to knowledge of God and His ways, to become more and more sensitive to the leading of His Spirit, so that as events on earth unfold, we can be equipped to recognize:
WHAT IS OF GOD; and
WHAT IS NOT OF GOD.

This is ONE MORE REASON we want to go after the fullness of the Kingdom, so that when “lying signs and wonders” appear, we are not so starved for the REAL-DEAL that we fall for the WRONG DEAL.

A good time to look at this meaty, and often disputed portion of Scripture.
BECAUSE OF HOW THE QUESTIONS were asked, (the temple, the end of the age, the Lord’s return) it was a set-up for Jesus to explain things in such a way as to explain short-range matters (like the destruction of the temple in 70AD, but also longer-range matters – like His return in the clouds at the end of the age). If one studies Daniel it can be seen that God has spoken through the prophets in like manner, before, Daniel speaking into both the forthcoming appearance of the prototypical anti-christ Antiochus Epiphanes – who showed up during the 400-year intertestamental period, but also speaking forward to the end of the age, when the real-deal anti-christ will show up.

POINT TO NOTE: The fact that Jesus Himself, in Matt 24, tells His people that the when the Abomination of Desolation shows up in the temple in Jerusalem, they were to read Daniel, already confirms that all of Daniel’s prophecy could not have been fulfilled in Antiochus Epiphanes, since A-E had already come and gone by the time Jesus was speaking Matthew 24. Likewise, I think it is somewhat naive to try to pin ALL of what Jesus said in Matt 24 on the then-upcoming events of 70AD – simply because of how Matthew 24 is written, and also when you consider some of the parallel wording to Daniel’s prophecy.

Matt 24:7-21
7 “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
8 “All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. (POINT: ALL NATIONS WERE NOT HATING THE JEWS IN 70 AD).
10 “And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11 “Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
12 “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
13 “But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

(POINT: JESUS BEGINS SPEAKING OF AN ALL-WORLD/ALL NATIONS PREACHING of the gospel, which certainly did not occur in 70AD)
14 “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand),
16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
17 “Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.
18 “And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.
19 “But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!

(Here’s God’s mercy extended to the remnant of the Jews)
20 “And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.
21 “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Verse 21: Jesus is functionally re-quoting Daniel re the worst-troubles-ever:

Dan 12:1-2 – DEFINITELY END-TIMES PROPHECY, because verse 2 tells us of the resurrection of the dead:
1 “At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book.
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Matt 24:22-39
22 “And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.
23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it.
24 “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
25 “See, I have told you beforehand.
(THE PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR THE RETURN OF MESSIAH – at the end of the Age):
26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.
(AND JESUS, IN THE SAME BREATH, TELLS US HIS APPEARANCE IN CLOUDS – didn’t occur in 70AD)
27 “For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
28 “For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

HUGE WORD: IMMEDIATELY – EUTHEOS – literally – IMMEDIATELY, STRAIGHTWAY, FORTHWITH – Jesus clearly says IMMEDIATELY after the never-to-be-exceeded troubles, He will show up.

Why the big deal here? Because Dominion Theology, which proclaims “THE TOUGHEST STUFF happened in 70AD and now we are pretty much the wedding planners” is a very popular and growing doctrine, and it hinges upon folks ignoring the clarity of these very scriptures, and others, and checking them all off as DONE and COMPLETE.

That’s swell as far as “happy days are here again” – but if/when things begin to percolate (and I believe they are beginning to do that NOW, then those happy saints will be in jeopardy of taking great offense about what HAS NOT HAPPENED YET, but MUST HAPPEN)

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. (This did not occur in 70AD. As terrible as the slaughter and destruction of the temple, and the city was, it was not THE TROUBLING-SEASON that was to exceed every other trouble or devastation that would follow. Like Hiroshima. Like the Holocaust. Like the slaughters of millions in Russia by Stalin or Chinese by Mao. Matt 24 is speaking of a worldwide tribulation period that will never be exceeded).
31 “And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
33 “So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near– at the doors!
34 “Assuredly, I say to you, this generation (GENEA – which can also be used to mean AN AGE) will by no means pass away till all these things take place.

IF GENEA means “AGE” that this can work for our theory of it pointing to the end of the age.
What if Jesus meant “GENERATION” as in the years of man: is Israel ever called THE FIG TREE (we know it’s called the Olive Tree – Jer 11:16.

ANSWER: YES – Israel is also referred to as the FIG TREE, in fact not only A fig tree, but God’s own fig tree;

Hosea 9:10

10 “I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstfruits on the fig tree in its first season. But they went to Baal Peor, and separated themselves to that shame; they became an abomination like the thing they loved.

Joel 1:6-7
6 For a nation has come up against My land, strong, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the fangs of a fierce lion.
7 He has laid waste My vine, and ruined My fig tree; he has stripped it bare and thrown it away; its branches are made white.

So IF “this generation shall not pass away til all these things are fulfilled” means GENERATION (as in the “typical” age of a man, some take this to perhaps mean that the generation of the people already born at the time the FIG TREE bloomed (1948?) shall not pass away until all things concerning the end of this age are fulfilled.

Moses in Ps 90 tells us the (typical) lifetime of man is 60-70 years. If that is taken as a clue to number of years from the birth of national Israel, then you can do the math and guestimate the return of Jesus around 1948+70, which would take us to 2018. Interesting.

Peter in fact refers to Ps 90 when he hints at a thousand years being like a day to God, btw. Peter happens to be addressing end times events in that portion of his writing..

Much of this is speculation at this time – which is why so many books are being written.

But the point is, things seem to be pointing to the ticking clock of God’s end-of-age plan, and in that light, we are to be a ready and prepared people.

35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
37 “But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
38 “For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
39 “and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
40 “Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.
41 “Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.
42 “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
43 “But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
44 “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?
46 “Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.
47 “Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.
48 “But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’
49 “and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,
50 “the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of,
51 “and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Unclear is some ways, and in other ways, pretty straightforward.
I believe things will get clearer and clearer, both as we press in, and as things unfold in front of us.

POINT TO NOTE: over the centuries many saints have been so pressed upon by the upcoming the return of Jesus, many even thinking He’d return in their lives, that they dropped everything, went out and preached the gospel, and won many for Christ.

And meanwhile Jesus didn’t return in their lifetimes.
That doesn’t mean we want to deceive one another into urgency in order to incite fervency.

At the same time, a sense of divine urgency is not a bad thing, AND there are events and situations occurring on an unprecedented worldwide basis that appear to be pointing clearly to the prophetic promises of His return. We don’t want to miss out on God’s plan.

It is a DIVINE MYSTERY – but it is not intended to be so mysterious that those who would search for God might fail. He is very much FOR US, and FOR US MAKING IT SUCCESSFULLY.

At the same time, the plan of God is so intended as to provide us with the opportunity to SPEND IT ALL on Him, on knowing Him, and His purposes.

It is GREATEST ADVENTURE OF ALL TIME, and when the saints allow their God to move in and direct their lives.

In some ways we personally/actually become a huge part of THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH.
That is one reason I personally believe the saints will be here, through the tribulation of the last season of this age, because God will TRY US and REFINE US, and at the same time He will cause our light to shine the brightest, as He goes about seeking to save those who get so troubled that they will eventually call upon Him.

Matt 5:14-20
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Then we are told that GOD HIMSELF has determined that WE, HIS PEOPLE, are to actually BE the light of the world, and in that place, we are to be visible, in Him, for His glory:
16 “Let (ALLOW) your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
That coordinates perfectly w Isa 60:1-3 – which we plan to cover later)

THE VERY NEXT verse has critical end-times pertinence – we’re told what NOT to think:
17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
19 “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

So we can see that there IS A PLAN OF GOD – and much wants to be revealed through us, and that in our alignment with that plan, we will do good works that will glorify God – as He is working MOST INTENSELY, to get as many people saved as possible.

W.I.G.D. – Week One – Final Notes

WIGD – WEEK ONE

W.I.G.D. – an acronym (blame me for one more acronym) for WHAT IS GOD DOING – in these days, in the saints individually as well as corporately, and in the world as the clock ticks towards the end of this age.

These are NOTES from a SPOKEN class, and as I’ve written them as such, please bear with me re some typos or strange numerations, etc. But I did want to get the notes posted for folks who like written notes.

The audio recordings are following up, for now available at ez3728.podbean.com

They might eventually be available on the facebook page ez3728 as well.

These are the notes from the first of four planned class sessions.
What Is God Doing These Days?

THE PLAN is for us to look at the word of God, for the next 4 sessions, and learn what our great God has told us HAS TO HAPPEN as the end of this age comes upon us – and from that place I believe we will be able to get a clearer picture re what is happening right now.

THE PLAN is to not necessarily point to ISIS, the decay of Western society, corruption in world govt, bizarre weather patterns, increased plagues, moral decline in society, etc as symbolic of the end of the age coming upon us – but all that and more are wake-up notices straight out of scripture to both:

ALERT THE SAINTS to get them praying and on-track w the work of the Lord in these times; AND

WAKE UP THE UNSAVED to recognize their desperate need for salvation.

MY HOPES are that you become more and more convinced of the glory and beauty and accuracy and power of the Word of God – that you become addicted to it, so that it takes over your mind, and your thought processes – that you don’t just look AT IT or get INTO IT, but that it overwhelms and GETS INTO YOU so that your thought processes and the mind of Christ become nearly inseparable, so that HIS word overtakes YOUR philosophy. That’s when things get great!

SOME FOUNDATIONAL STUFF – re this class:
1. PACE OF THIS CLASS – There is no POINT A or POINT B – other than POINT A being where we are in God’s timeline, and POINT B being the return of our Lord – so when FOUR WEEKS are done, we’re done. That means I definitely ought to be able to NOT TALK at break-neck pace.

I am trying to deliver this message as a progressive and flowing revelation as opposed to charting out “Let’s look at Revelation chapter so-and-so-to-chapter-so-and-so”.

Instead, I am praying that there will be a flow of revelation into this teaching as we ourselves flow and transition to and from multiple related issues pertaining not only to the TIME in which we are living, as if they were organizational bullet points, but rather that the revelation of the class will be to initiate us and acquaint us w how the Spirit would want us to peer into and digest ANY scripture on ANY matter.

A BIG BOTTOM LINE FOR THIS CLASS:
I believe that what God is doing NOW is to try to get the Spirit-led sons (and daughters) of God to become more acquainted w actually being Spirit-led, Spirit-obedient, and Spirit-driven.
THE END TIMES PLAN IS ABOUT PEOPLE. Events and Shakings are the tools to get to the People. That means US as well as the UNSAVED.
Our gathering together for these times, IN PART, is part of that process.

IN FACT, I BELIEVE PAUL TELLS US THAT THIS ENTIRE AGE IS ABOUT PEOPLE. GOD IS ABOUT PEOPLE:

Acts 17:26-31

” 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,
27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;

28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’
29 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising.

30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,
31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.””

THAT, is the gospel..

(We’ll go deep in Matthew 24,25,26 next week or so…)
MATT 24 – Keystone for End Times. But remember about CHAPTERS… 25 and 26 are part of the same conversation. They reveal not only “END OF AGE” but going into the next Age, whic I believe is the very next millennium – The Kingdom Age.

But for now:

Matthew 25:19-23
” 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’
21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
22 He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’
23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’”

There are many more scriptures re our reward, and positions w the Lord after His return. I believe they are all telling us the same thing: once He returns there will be plenty to do. The government will be upon HIS shoulders, but the prepared, the trustworthy, the refined, the humble and the trained will rule w Him to varying degrees. Well plan to build on this later weeks.

God is working IN US and ON US to craft, test and grow our STEWARDSHIP, so that we can enter the joy of the Lord in the fullness of our destiny reward…..

TO THAT END, for us to understand and embrace a little more of the whole plan..
There is a place of revelation available to us that literally goes beyond facts and figures and a timeline. THAT is where I want to get in this class.

This is not intended as a cop-out to my lack of preparation (a good of prep) or structure, but rather I am looking for us to get to a place of revelation, in many ways akin to how I believe God has even chosen to write things out for us, through the entirety of Scripture. God is into mystifying us w the unveiling of His plans:

Ps 72:18
Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things!

THE CONCLUSION OF THIS AGE – OF COURSE we would be wise to anticipate that the very most important event in the history of this age will be WONDER-FUL. FULL OF WONDERS.

ISA 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful

2. LIST – If you are not yet on the class list and want my notes, write your name and email address clear enough so it can actually be read, and I will add you to that list.
If you are already on the class list, no need to write your name again.

3. NEWBIES ALONG THE WAY – If you know anyone who wants to come to later classes, that works fine for me. I also know that some of you will not be able to attend all four sessions. I am crushed. Seriously – I get it. It is what it is.

4. BIBLE VERSION – I will be teaching from the NKJV of the bible. Bring w you whatever you like. BRING SOMETHING.
There will be LOTS OF BIBLE taught here.

LOTS OF BIBLE is the safe place. All the other stuff that is proclaimed over the pulpits will come and go. If it is bible-centric, fine. If not, toss it out. Philosophy will bow to the word of God some day. All the rhetoric, theories, good arguments, etc. are ETERNALLY worthless.

Tremble at WHAT IS WRITTEN in the Word of God.
BUT don’t tremble about reading or understanding it. Like everything else in your walk, plunge into it in faith.

And DONT TREMBLE at goofy stuff you hear in church. If it ain’t Bible, it ain’t worth trembling over.

That’s yet another reason why you want to know what’s in your bible, so you can know what’s NOT in your bible…

GOD wants you to know His word. His Spirit will open it up to you, as a reward for your diligence and humility and teachability.

NOTES – I will try my best to get my notes to you PRIOR to the class, and that way to you can read them and track along. THEY MAY MORPH WEEK TO WEEK, if I happen to send you notes in advance…

Pardon the typos. Each time I read my own notes I find more…

Also – if You like I can send you updated notes either after each class or at the end of the last session, since they’ll contain more stuff or modified stuff. In those would sometimes be (NIYN) notations. Not In Your Notes.

BOLDS, and LITTLE WORDS, etc in my notes: If you are reading my notes, then the LITTLE words are scriptures I’ve included in here for your reading convenience, but don’t necessarily plan to be speaking, since they are not specifically necessary w my teaching point. Also, most all of the underlining and emboldening is for MY convenience, as I teach and speak – in hopes I don’t miss something I want to point out or emphasize.

OVERHEADS – As of the time of this preparation, I DO NOT plan to present my notes as overhead slides – it makes for a lot more work and since you ought to have the printed notes, you’ll do fine.

5. THE “IN THE SAME BOAT” DISCLAIMER: ME – I always say this but want to say this again – I am not presenting information, or revelation, as if I have somehow attained completion.

I am in this w you all. As a teacher, God has blessed me w a certain level of understanding of the things of the Kingdom, and the Scriptures. And I do choose to dig, appreciating there’s opportunity as well as serious need to increase my understanding.
That goes for any/all of us who’ve been in the Kingdom any length of time – we’re invited to use our time wisely.

But anything I might understand, or even teach well, doesn’t mean that I personally have this wired, and the fact that I MAY understand some of these principles pretty clearly actually makes me MORE ACCOUNTABLE to be living them out.

So do pray for me. I don’t take teaching lightly, and I am painfully aware of my own shortcomings.

I AM GETTING WORKED OVER PREPARING THIS CLASS. I’ll pray and write and read etc, and AFTER THAT the Lord will speak to me more. I know He’s stretching my ability and willingness to flex and continue to receive input AFTER “I’m done”.

Still, God is good to me and He is good to you – so we all know that as we continue on this

Journey-Of-Discovery, we will all be blessed and we will all be transformed, by Him. THAT is why we are here – to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, to have our minds renewed, to be transformed by His Spirit as we dig into the glorious things of the Kingdom, knowing by faith we will find the King there.

OK?

ONCE AGAIN – THE PLAN is for us to look into the word of God, for the next 4 sessions, and learn some of what our great God has told us HAS TO HAPPEN as the end of this age comes upon us – and from that place of understanding HIS OVERALL PLAN, I believe we will be able to get a clearer picture re what is happening right now.

God’s end time plan is not an easy plan or a simple plan, or something anyone will simply skate through – nor easily absorb on some “fly-by” approach. It wasn’t intended to be that way – so the matter of quick “take-aways” from this class might be frustrating, although there will be some.

Because what God has laid out for us is not an easy or simple plan, that opens the door for all sorts of silly, easy doctrines. But the safe place is for us to want accuracy, even if it is tough to hear .

We’re not out to make things HARD for “HARD’S SAKE”. But at the same time, anything less than biblical accuracy will eventually place us into the most difficult situation imaginable – un- preparedness, and even being susceptible to us taking offense at God.

RE: end times – There’s a GLIB DOCTRINE called: “Pan-Millennialism” – meaning – IT WILL ALL PAN OUT. This is actually true – what God has determined to happen, will happen.

But the concept of Pan-Millennialism is sadly simplistic, sarcastic, and naive.

The Scriptures clearly tell us some believers will fall from their steadfastness, some will stumble, some will be deceived, some will be discouraged – all of which ARE avoidable.

PETER LAID OUT A PROGRESSIVE-maturing process in 2 Peter 1, and then said: ” if you do these things you won’t stumble”. Mr. Pre-Holy-Spirit-Stumble said that! by the time. He wrote his letters, he understood stumbling was avoidable…

Others, in ignorance or having been taught wrong, will be offended by what God is doing because they themselves did not bother investigating IN ADVANCE what the Word tells us.

Others will even turn on their brethren. Much of the global church will become aligned w the plans of satan and morph into the Harlot of the book of Revelation.

So “PAN-MILLENNIALISM” is true in that it all WILL HAPPEN, whether we know what’s happening, or not.

But in that “truth” lies another sobering truth – THE OUTCOME OF OUR FAITH, our success or failure, our good or poor decisions, and/or our realizing our full potential for Christ, can and will be affected.

QUITE IMPORTANT FOR US TO KNOW is that the end-times plan of God is not simply FOR US or HAPPENING AROUND US, but it actually a plan that has to occur IN US. He is all about preparing the saints for our victory. We’ll look at that time and time again as we get into Zephaniah and other places to see what kind of people we simply HAVE TO BECOME in order to inherit the earth.

Look at this END OF STORY REVELATION ( not in your notes):
Revelation 21:2-3
“2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”

And look at this (also not in your notes):
Deuteronomy 4:34-36
“34 Or did God ever try to go and take for Himself a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
35 To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord Himself is God; there is none other besides Him.
36 Out of heaven He let you hear His voice, that He might instruct you; on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire.”

The end-times plan of God is about PEOPLE, not about signs and wonders. He has always been about people.
He manifests signs and wonders to accomplish His goals of crafting for Himself A PEOPLE…

ANOTHER POINT RE PAN MILLENIALISM and us either knowing, or doing, nothing – knowing nothing, and/or doing nothing, is not a plan for success. It has always proven to be a plan for failure.

THERE IS NO “DUMB CARD” to play. “I didn’t know” (when we COULD/SHOULD know) is not good.

Peter tells us this (we’ll be in this epistle in depth, during these coming weeks):

2 Pet 1:2-11
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
3 as His divine power has given (NOTE: TENSE) to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, (and how are “ALL THINGS” realized?) through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

(A WONDERFUL PROGRESSION THAT WE WILL NOT LOOK AT IN DEPTH)

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in
the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10 Therefore, brethren (he’s writing to saints, who can be short-sighted to blindness, by their choices), be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; ( there it is!)
11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

There is a place of diligent pressing-in that will assure us of our success. It is linked to an “IF” on our part. “IF you do these things…….”

And we want to make it, successfully, and we are told that will take a prepared, sanctified, sold- out and ready people.

THE REALLY GOOD NEWS is that:
1. The ones who are IN Him, WIN; AND
2. God has already laid out for us everything we need in order to be successful; AND 3. He is working w us for us to win

(Matt 12:20-21) A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench, till He sends forth justice to victory; AND
4. In His word is the entire ACTION PLAN – both for God, and also for us.

THE PLAN FOR THIS CLASS is for us to identify what God has told us HAS TO HAPPEN, so that we might be a more knowledgeable, more rooted and grounded in His Word so that we are
less moved by CIRCUMSTANCES and SITUATIONS and
more moved by His HOLY SPIRIT as He moves upon us.

THE END TIMES PLAN OF GOD includes the active participation of the saints.

It is not simply about us not falling away and/or not being offended. He has chosen to INCLUDE us IN THE ACTIVE PLAN. It is actually quite amazing – because God does amazing things – and because His desire is for His people, His bride, to share in the work of glory.

It’s funny – sometimes we think about the concept of “KNOWLEDGE OF GOD” and we have this emotional knee-jerk response, as if knowledge and faith or knowledge and being spirit-led are polar opposites, and that “knowledge” means “intellectualism”.

That is a lie.

“KNOWLEDGE”, biblically, has a way deeper meaning that facts and figures.
HEBREW –
yada” means knowledge, as in Abraham knowing Sarah and her getting pregnant w Isaac. There is an intimacy and an emotional bond that comes w biblical knowledge.

I KNOW the NT was not written in Hebrew, but let’s see how Paul and Peter addressed the “knowledge” issue, and whether they wrote it off as intellectualism:

2 Pet 1:2
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

Col 1:9-10
9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 that you may have a walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

(Gr – epignosis – implying an understanding of things that were divine)

PAUL – who totally KNEW the scriptures, but without divine revelation concluded it was righteous to persecute and kill believers in Jesus, got to this place re REALLY KNOWING, and Really Knowing the value of KNOWING:

Phil 3:7-15
But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.

Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ
9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

So: LORD WE WANT TO KNOW!
We want to know You, Your living word, Your plans for this age.

Part of our preparedness is our DAILY understanding that we are not living in a passive or static spiritual environment.

“SATAN” is a Hebrew word. It means “adversary”. (h7854 – Strong’s) EXAMPLES of “adversary” beyond the fallen angel we call Satan:

IKing 11:14

14 Now the LORD raised up an adversary (“h7854 – “satan”) against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was a descendant of the king in Edom.

Num 22:32
32 And the Angel of the LORD said to him, “Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out to stand against (h7854 – be “satan” against) you, because your way is perverse before Me.

FOR OUR PURPOSES and most purpose of scripture: Satan is a title for the devil – who comes before God in the book of Job, to accuse Job, and continues to relentlessly come against all the works of God, oftentimes coming into the church w bad doctrines and philosophies.
THAT IS ANOTHER REASON FOR US NEEDING TO KNOW what the Word DOES SAY, so we can identify what the Word DOES NOT say, when goofy stuff gets presented to us.

We cannot anticipate success if we do nothing.

We have an active ADVERSARY who is so disobedient to God that he takes no Sabbath, and is therefore coming against God, and all of the plans of God for His people, 24/7.

Unless we determine to be fully equipped, we will not be fully equipped. HENCE – our being here, and our pressing in.

ARMOR OF GOD verses conclude w this:

Eph 6:12-13
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
(ACTION-RESPONSE to the revelation of v 12)
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Satan has schemes. God has plans.

GOD’S PLANS are in SOME WAYS very CLEARLY laid out, and in other ways, NOT VERY CLEARLY laid out. Both are purposeful.

He wants us understand what He wants us to understand: WHO HE IS
HOW HE OPERATES, and
WHAT HE EXPECTS OF US.

Some of those understandings are “SCRIPTURES” themselves – you can simply READ A VERSE and understand the point.

EXAMPLES of absolute clear directives:

QUES – do I need to be holy?

1 Pet 1:15-16
15  but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

16  because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

QUES – can I get saved by bowing and worshipping anyone else?

Acts 4:12
12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

QUES – can I worship another god? Would our God be OK w that?

Exod 34:14

14 ‘for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God,

The ABOVE verses are reasonably clear and inarguable.

LESS OBVIOUS – NOT-one-verse-truths
There are other things that God wants us to know that purposely MIGHT NOT be as obvious as being laid out word-for-word in a scripture, and yet they become obvious when a person chooses to dig deeper and press into the word of God and then discovers HOW God has continued to operate over the ages.

There are revelations and understandings that God has determined would be mined by those choose to dig a deeper.

SIMPLE EXAMPLE: Escalated Action By God.
I don’t know of any ONE VERSE that says:
“BEHOLD, I AM A GOD WHO ESCALATES MY ACTIVITY IN DEALING WITH PEOPLE”, and yet time and again we see this happening both by SITUATIONAL EXAMPLE and also by DECLARATIONS AND WARNINGS that clearly point to this truth.

EXAMPLES of escalated action by God:

Lev 26:13-46 – A WARNING OF ESCALATION
13 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves; I have broken the bands of your yoke and made you walk upright.
‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments,
and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do
perform all My commandments, but break My covenant,
16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever
which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for
your enemies shall eat it.
17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you.
18 ‘And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
19 I will break the pride of your power; I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.
20 And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield its produce, nor shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.
21 ‘Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on
you seven times more plagues, according to your sins.
22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number; and your highways shall be desolate.
23  ‘And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me,
24  then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
25  And I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant; when you are gathered together within your cities I will send pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
26 When I have cut off your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall bring back your bread by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.
27  ‘And after all this, if you do not obey Me, but walk contrary to Me,
28  then I also will walk contrary to you in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven
times for your sins.

29 – 39 – (LOTS OF TROUBLES DESCRIBED)

29 You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters.
30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and cast your carcasses on the lifeless forms of your idols; and My soul shall abhor you.
31 I will lay your cities waste and bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not smell the fragrance of your sweet aromas. 32 I will bring the land to desolation, and your enemies who dwell in it shall be astonished at it.
33 I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you; your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.
34 Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land; then the land shall rest and enjoy its sabbaths.
35 ‘And as for those of you who are left, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies;
36 the sound of a shaken leaf shall cause them to flee; they shall flee as though fleeing from a sword, and they shall fall when no one pursues.
37 They shall stumble over one another, as it were before a sword, when no one pursues; and you shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
38 You shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.
39 And those of you who are left shall waste away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; also in their fathers’ iniquities, which are with them, they shall waste away.
40 ‘But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their
unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked
contrary to Me,
41 and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guilt–
42 then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and My covenant with Isaac and My
covenant with Abraham I will remember; I will remember the land.
43 The land also shall be left empty by them, and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; they will accept their guilt, because they despised My judgments and because their soul abhorred My statutes.
44 Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, nor shall I abhor them, to utterly destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.
45 But for their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.'”
46 These are the statutes and judgments and laws which the LORD made between Himself and the children of Israel on Mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE:
Amos 4:6-12 – NOW GOD GIVES A RECOUNT OF PAST ESCALATION:
6 “Also I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities. And lack of bread in all your places; yet you have not returned to Me,” says the LORD.
7 “I also withheld rain from you, when there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, and where it did not rain the part withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water, but they were not satisfied; yet you have not returned to Me,” says the LORD.
9 “I blasted you with blight and mildew. When your gardens increased, your vineyards, your fig trees, and your olive trees, the locust devoured them; yet you have not returned to Me,” says the LORD.
10 “I sent among you a plague after the manner of Egypt; your young men I killed with a sword, along with your captive horses; I made the stench of your camps come up into your nostrils; yet you have not returned to Me,” says the LORD.
11 “I overthrew some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning; yet you have not returned to Me,” says the LORD.
12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

This is good to understand, so that we might learn to respond quickly to correction.
THIS IS WHY you want to PERSONALLY COMMIT to digging into the Word of God.
I assure you – you will find more than you are looking for. You will be overpaid by God.

This kind of “umbrella understanding” as to how God works assists us greatly in understanding some of the challenging portions of scripture, btw.

We’re ACCOUNTABLE, AND INVITED TO LEARN FROM WHAT HAS BEEN RECORDED FOR US – not necessarily by A SIMPLE VERSE that describes WHO GOD IS, but rather by a digging-deeper mindset and attitude to LEARN what GOD HAS DONE IN THE PAST, so we can move forward more effectively into the future.

A Favorite portion of scripture for me:
Jer 9:24-26
24 But let him who glories (boasts) glory in this, that he
A. understands and
B. knows Me,
(AND HERE’S WHAT HE NEEDS TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND)
that I am the LORD, exercising
A. lovingkindness,
B. judgment, and
C. righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.

Ain’t Gonna Happen

Paul wrote his epistle to Titus with the purpose of addressing the issue of false teachers in the church at Crete. That being the case, we can learn from this letter, as we see, throughout the New Testament, warnings of false teaching trying to gain greater headway into the church as this age comes to a close (2 Tim 2, 11-26 and 4:2-5, for example). Another related purpose of this brief epistle is to exhort Titus to in turn exhort the believers in Crete that they should be living holy lives, busy about the work of the Kingdom. That doctrine, busy laboring for the Kingdom work, is surely being assaulted and challenged by the “let’s have fun in Jesus” club. There’s an end-of-age assault on truth for you.

Paul writes the following to Titus:
Titus 2:11-15
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

Verse 14 reveals Paul’s clear understanding that the price paid by our Lord was to redeem us from lawless deeds and to purify us, claiming us as His “own special people, zealous for good works”.

Redeemed – that means BOUGHT back and paid for, and then BROUGHT to a state of thankfulness that would inspire good works – zealous good works, in fact.

Citing “zealous for good works” contrasts with the apparent natural state of the residents of Crete, about whom Paul refuses to mince words. Gee, Paul was a prophet, and what he says here doesn’t seem all that “positive” re the culture of the Cretans. Might there be a lesson to be learned regarding New Testament prophecy – that it can be a two-edged sword and not merely Candyland compliments? Paul was quoting a 6th century BC writer name Epimenides:

Titus 1:12-13
12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”
13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,

Wow. What a lousy reputation for an entire culture to possess – lazy, lying scoundrels. Things had changed though – Jesus was moving in the lives of the people. Salvation was in Crete!

Although I’m a fan of the NKJV translation, the original King James states it this way:
Titus 2:14-15
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

I do love that.
“Peculiar people, zealous of good works”.
Peculiar. A little strange. Not fitting in, by divine design.
That has always been the plan of God – that His people would stand out to a lost and dying world.

Somehow the Lord must have been absent the day his mom home-schooled Him about being “relevant” and fitting in to make friends. Instead, He was more about the public spectacle of obedience to the will of His Father (Col 2:15).

God in fact has always felt so strongly about the specialness of His people, that He puts it this way via the prophet Ezekiel:

Ezek 20:32-33
32 “What you have in your mind shall never be, when you say, ‘We will be like the Gentiles, like the families in other countries, serving wood and stone.’
33 “As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you.

Israel was in captivity, and God was making a perpetual declaration to them – “Don’t you ever think you will be like Gentiles, serving false gods. It ain’t gonna happen. I didn’t redeem you so you could fit in”.

We would do well to understand this is not about wearing strange religious clothes or adapting weird customs that God fancies (although there are some strange things about our faith!).

Most importantly, He wants our lives to stand out – holy lives gung-ho for good works. We would also do well to understand it is not one Testament or the other. This is about the eternal God and His eternal attitude towards His eternal people. We will never be allowed to live like the Gentiles. We’re not supposed to and we won’t be allowed to. To the contrary, our efforts to live like the world will in fact invoke His anger.

33 “As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you.

Peter confirms the New Testament pertinence of this truth:
1 Pet 1:17-19
17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

The beginning of that chapter cites Peter speaking to the “pilgrims of the Dispersion”. That would be scattered Jews.

And Paul puts it this way to the Gentile converts to Christ:
1 Cor 12:2
2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led.

The bottom line to all this is that our great God has redeemed Jew and Gentile alike out of vain and worthless religion, religiosity, idol worship, worldliness, and even demonism. And in His jealousy for us He has declared we’re not to spend our lives here trying to fit in.

In speaking to the Jews (Ezek 20) God continues to speak to the saints of our age:
“Don’t for a moment think you are saved and redeemed so you can ‘fit in’ to society. You are called to stand out, not fit in. You are called to be a peculiar people, zealous of good works”.
Spirit-led sons of God (Romans 8).

Ezekiel 20, again:
32 “What you have in your mind shall never be, when you say, ‘We will be like the Gentiles, like the families in other countries, serving wood and stone.’

It simply ain’t gonna happen.
We are His – the people and the property of Jesus.
It sort of puts a new spin on our Lord telling us that our daily prayer has to include a binding of our living and rebellious wills to the altar, and instead surrendering to the will of God.

The Disneyland gospel of America would tell you it is all about you, finding your life in Him.
Paul says it this way – it’s not about finding out who he (Paul) is by His relationship with Jesus, but rather being found in Him (dwelling in the fullness of His divine will):

Phil 3:8-14
8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ
9 AND BE FOUND IN HIM, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

“I Surrender All” – what a great old song.

Prophecy Basics – A Class Teaching

These are some teaching notes from a small group meeting that took place on 9/19. At the risk of some scriptures missing explanation, I thought it more important to post these than to edit them. It’s sort of long, but it does address some important points regarding the prophetic office, prophetic activity, and prophetic importance throughout all times.

I personally believe that as the clock ticks toward the end of this age, the activity of the prophetic will become more and more critical – but to proclaim that which the Lord would want revealed, and also to counter the false prophetic and supernatural occurrences that we are clearly warned, by our Lord, that will occur.

Matthew 24:24-25
24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.

The damage done by goofy prophets with goofy words is not a valid reason to shut down the activity, in hopes of sanitizing and protecting the church and the world. At the same time, those called to prophesy would do well to recognize the volatility and accountability of the ministry.

AND NOW…..

I do want to discuss some basics of prophecy tonight, simply because people either:

  1. Find themselves feeling weird about thinking they actually might be hearing from God, one way or another, and don’t know what to do w it; OR
  2. Have been taught AGAINST prophecy and then have to unlearn what they’ve been taught so they can be responsive to God; OR
  3. Don’t really know what the word says about prophets and prophecy, and may have either parked on one aspect of the ministry, or been taught re a few aspects of the ministry, and are intimidated either to (1.) prophesy, or (2.) feel comfortable defending the ministry of the prophetic.

And meanwhile, GOD HIMSELF INVENTED THE PROPHETIC – so we would all do well to understand what is going on here, so we can function IN OBEDIENCE to the Spirit, and neither OVER-STEP or UNDER-STEP the safe boundaries of the word.

BTW – The FIRST declaration of anyone BEING a PROPHET was when God told Abimelech that Abraham was a prophet, and that Abraham, who was half-deceptive in saying his wife was his sister (we won’t go there), needed to pray for Abimelech and God would hear Abraham’s prayers:

Gen 20:2-12
2          Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.
3          But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.”
4          But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, “Lord, will You slay a righteous nation also?
5          “Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.”
6          And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her.
7          “Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”
8          So Abimelech rose early in the morning, called all his servants, and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were very afraid.
9          And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done.”
10       Then Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you have in view, that you have done this thing?”
11       And Abraham said, “Because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will kill me on account of my wife.
12       “But indeed she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

So we see from the get-go that we’re dealing w REAL PEOPLE w REAL ISSUES, including “FATHER ABRAHAM” – the first person about whom GOD HIMSELF testifies as being a prophet – is trying to pass his wife off as his sister to save his own bacon. Had she REALLY been his sister, he likely wouldn’t have married her….AND GOD DECLARED SARAH AS ABRAHAM’S sister!

THIS IS NOT A DOOR TO COMPROMISE – I just want us to see that PERFECT God is working w IMPERFECT MAN, always.

proph-et (prof’it) n.
HEBREW – Nabiy – a spokesman (for GOD), speaker (example – Aaron was Moses’ NABIY), prophet

RANDOM HOUSE:

  • a person who speaks for God or a deity,

or by divine inspiration.

  • (in the Old Testament).
  • a person chosen to speak for God and

to guide the people of Israel.

  • (often cap.) one of the Major or

Minor Prophets.

  • one of a class of persons in the early

Christian church recognized as inspired
to utter special revelations and
predictions. 1 Cor. 12: 28.

  • <the Prophet> Muhammad, the founder of
    Islam.
  • a person regarded as, or claiming to be,
  • an inspired teacher or leader.
  • a person who foretells the future.
  • a person who speaks for some doctrine,
  • cause, or movement.
    proph-e-cy (prof’uh see) n. pl. <-cies>
  • the foretelling or prediction of what is
    to come.
  • something that is declared by a prophet,
esp. a divinely inspired prediction, instruction, or exhortation.
  • any prediction or forecast.
  • the action, function, or faculty of a
prophet.[1175-1225; ME prophecie < OF < LL prophetia < Gk
propheteía. See PROPHET, – Y 3]So we see that FUTURE PREDICTION is ONE ELEMENT OF THE PROPHET’S MESSAGE.
It gets a little fuzzy when we begin drawing lines that the scriptures don’t draw, so let’s not do that.In reality – DIVINELY SPEAKING FORTH could officially be called PROPHECY – so if you feel you are called to this activity as a man or woman of God, then walk in it and find your place in the prophetic. IT MIGHT NOT BE SOMEONE ELSE’S PLACE IN THE PROPHETIC.One might be more exhortational. Another more futuristic. That is God’s choice. YOU are called to find out what God is doing through you, and then be obedient to that.Meanwhile, God has always regarded the prophetic calling on any person’s life as being critical to the spiritual HEALTH and WELFARE of His people, and also has desired the prophetic for ALL PEOPLE of the earth.EXAMPLE: THIS WAS A WEIRD SEASON FOR THE JEWS – in the desert, complaining, Moses interacting w God.
The presence is all over Moses, and 70 elders CATCH THE BUG and prophesy ONCE – but never again. Then others began prophesying, apart from the 70, and the Israelites got into a religious tizzy, wanting to stop those two (nothing’s changed):

    Num 11:29
29       Then Moses said to him, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the LORD’S people were prophets and that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!”

First, that reveals Moses’ heart re the matter.
Second, that itself prophesies about the outpouring of the prophetic mantle thru Jesus. I believe ALL don’t prophesy, but that the potential is for ALL to prophesy, just like we know God wants ALL to come to repentance, although ALL won’t.

MOSES’ cry is a humongous statement.

This has always been God’s heart – that His people would be spoken into by MANY PROPHETS – men and women of God who came into the place of understanding that prophecy was His will.

IN FACT, that is why there is so much noise and resistance and even demonic activity surrounding prophecy.

RULE OF THUMB – If there’s something that God wants accomplished, there will be resistance. EXPECT IT, AND GET OVER THE RESISTANCE.

And don’t dwell on that negative. If you spend your time dwelling on the negative, you’ll miss what God wants to do.

THE FOLLOWING ARE CRITICAL VERSES FOR ANY MINISTRY – Prophet, Teacher, etc. – although brought forth in the context of the prophetic (which, I personally believe, extends WAY beyond what the current church marks as “prophetic”. I think the whole gospel of Jesus is a revelation of the “speaking forth” of the Kingdom) so these verses would do well to be embraced, at trembled at, by every saint in any ministry.

These verses also illustrate how much effort our adversary wants to invest in falsifying the prophetic.
BACKGROUND: ISRAEL was in a horrible place w God – and that place was being made worse by the false prophets:

    Jer 23:14-40
14       Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: they commit adultery and walk in lies; they also strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns back from his wickedness. All of them are like Sodom to Me, and her inhabitants like Gomorrah.
15       “Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts (GOD’S AT-WAR name) concerning the prophets: ‘Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall; for from the prophets of Jerusalem profaneness has gone out into all the land.’ “
16       Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; they speak a vision of their own heart, not from the mouth of the LORD.
17       They continually say to those who despise Me, ‘The LORD has said, “You shall have peace” ‘;and to everyone who walks according to the dictates of his own heart, they say, ‘No evil shall come upon you.'”

THIS IS ALWAYS A MOST POPULAR THEME OF FALSE PROPHECY, in both testaments. False grace.

KEY – standing in the counsel of the Lord to get the real deal:
18       For who has stood in the counsel of the LORD, and has perceived and heard His word? Who has marked His word and heard it?
19       Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD has gone forth in fury– a violent whirlwind! It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.
20       The anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart. In the latter days you will understand it perfectly.

(I BELIEVE THIS APPLIES TO THE NT PROPHET AS WELL AS THE OT PROPHET – “In the latter days” is TYPICALLY a marker for end-times events).

21       “I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran. I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
22       But if they had stood in My counsel, and had caused My people to hear My words, then they would have turned them from their evil way and from the evil of their doings.
23       “Am I a God near at hand,” says the LORD, “And not a God afar off?
24       Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him?” says the LORD; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the LORD.
25       “I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in My name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’
26       “How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart,
27       “who try to make My people forget My name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor, as their fathers forgot My name for Baal.

THE REAL GOOD NEWS the BONAFIDE TRUMPS THE COUNTERFEIT and that is where we want to dwell, function, and prophesy from:

28       “The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?” says the LORD.
29       “Is not My word like a fire?” says the LORD, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
30       “Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” says the LORD, “who steal My words every one from his neighbor.
31       “Behold, I am against the prophets,” says the LORD, “who use their tongues and say, ‘He says.’
32       “Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” says the LORD, “and tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies and by their recklessness. Yet I did not send them or command them; therefore they shall not profit this people at all,” says the LORD.

    (skipping down)
38       “But since you say, ‘The oracle of the LORD!’ therefore thus says the LORD: ‘Because you say this word, “The oracle of the LORD!” and I have sent to you, saying, “Do not say, ‘The oracle of the LORD!'”
39       ‘therefore behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you and forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and will cast you out of My presence.
40       ‘And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.'”

TAKEAWAY TO ALL THIS (FOR US):

Fear God, be intentionally and intensely in His word, remain in His presence. SPEND time. Your alabaster box is your time spent on Him. It is irreplaceable and invaluable. Wasting time is a waste. Redeem the time because the days are evil, says Paul in Ephesians.

And in that place, understand it is HIS HEART and HIS DESIRE that the TRUE PROPHETIC FUNCTIONS W AUTHORITY.

Don’t fret over the false prophet. GOD HIMSELF will go after the false prophet.

OUR CALL is to go after God.

(REAL AND TRUE) Prophecy has to come forth from a person who has been moved upon by the Spirit of God. Otherwise, AT BEST, it is good intent. And that is not enough. And in fact GOOD INTENT is OFTEN the breeding ground for false prophecy.

“Angsting” (new word!) over false prophets, compulsively, will simply waste your time and energy, and distract you from intimacy.

TEACHING – False teaching drives me nuts. Sometimes when I hear of some doctrine I groan knowing I MAY have to address it, word for word. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, I have felt the Lord incline me to SPEAK TRUTH, as opposed to CONTRADICT FALSE DOCTRINE.

Jer 23 gives me great encouragement in that.
28       “The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?” says the LORD.
29       “Is not My word like a fire?” says the LORD, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

Point to note: the dream state is often used by God as a means to speak to the prophet. That’s how He speaks to me, and there’s been established an entire MAP LEGEND of images and symbols that God knows I am learning to better understand Him as He speaks to me prophetically.

EXPECT GOD to speak to you – and ask Him how you are to respond to that dialogue. Then respond. For me, it’s writing things down faithfully whether they are understood or not, at which time He typically opens them up to me.

OBJECT LESSON: Dueling Prophets – Israel was headed for 70 years of captivity and Hananiah was telling them folks “DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY”

    Jer 28:1-3
1          And it happened in the same year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, who was from Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
2          “Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
3          ‘Within two full years I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the LORD’S house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon.

    Jer 28:6-11
6          and the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! The LORD do so; the LORD perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring back the vessels of the LORD’S house and all who were carried away captive, from Babylon to this place.
7          “Nevertheless hear now this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people:
8          “The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries and great kingdoms– of war and disaster and pestilence.
9          “As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet comes to pass, the prophet will be known as one whom the LORD has truly sent.”
10       Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck and broke it.
11       And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years.'” And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.

    Jer 28:15-17
15       Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Hear now, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie.
16       “Therefore thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will cast you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the LORD.'”
17       So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

OUR MISSION AS SAINTS IS THE BE IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD.
We are GUARANTEED there will be false teaching, false prophecies, false church (The REV HARLOT is the false church).

WE ARE CALLED TO OBEY THE WORD OF GOD, that is it.
In fact, it has nothing even to do w the outcome of our words, or the response of the people:

    Jer 7:25-27
25       “Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.
26       “Yet they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers.
27       “Therefore you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not obey you. You shall also call to them, but they will not answer you.

I DO THINK (a friend) sent out my recent blog about DEAD PROPHETS SOCIETY – so you can read that – and I won’t go into that this evening.

BUT I DO WANT TO GO FORWARD INTO THE NT – as I believe in many ways the office of the prophet has not changed all that much, even though the church is inclined to slobber all over the activity of prophecy as if NOW is FINALLY WHEN all can speak forth anything they want in faith and we can see whether it works or not.

FIRST OF ALL – one point (MADE IN THAT BLOG) re PROPHESYING ACCURATELY and PROPHESYING FALSELY:

This verse is ALL ABOUT JESUS – it gets quoted and referenced by PETER and by STEPHEN THE MARTYR – It is a PROPHETIC WORD ABOUT THE PROPHET JESUS, and about PROPHECY IN OUR DAYS:

    Deut 18:18-22
18       ‘I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.
19       ‘And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.
20       ‘But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’
21       “And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’–
22       “when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Lots of false prophets, in the scriptures, said goofy things and did NOT die within the year (like Hananiah). But there’s DEATH surrounding false prophecy, and also there is the bigger issue in these verses about PRESUMPTION.

I do believe we all will need to grow in our callings. So if/when we blow it, or miss hearing God, or get on a roll and add to what God has told us to say – all that is NOT GOOD, but it is NOT FATAL.

But don’t PLAY W PROPHECY. Treat this w love and care, in the fear of the Lord.

    NOW – 1 Corinthians:
    1 Cor 14:12-32
12       Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel. (MOTIVE)
13       Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.
14       For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

BOTTOM LINE (Paul’s Bottom Line – he will both pray and sing in the Spirit – in his heavenly language, and with his understanding – his natural language):
15       What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
16       Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say?
17       For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
    18       I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;
19       yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20       Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.
21       In the law it is written: “With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; and yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,” says the Lord. (wonderfully crazy – Paul is quoting Isa 28:11 – clearly a portion of scripture prophesying about the upcoming INVASION OF ONE KINGDOM BY ANOTHER KINGDOM – that SAME PROPHETIC DECLARATION is ONE of the purposes of tongues – no wonder the religious spirit wars against tongues – it is a prophetic fulfillment of “YOUR KINGDOM COME, YOUR WILL BE DONE”)

THE “WEIRD VERSES” (which really are not weird, although at first blush they may seem backwards)
22       Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.

TONGUES, which is NOT understandable in and of itself, is telling the unbelievers “THERE’S A KINGDOM COMING – one kingdom is invading another kingdom”. That would be us, saints, invading the kingdom of darkness.

PROPHESY, which IS understandable, and DISCLOSES the heart and mind and life, (sometimes the history and future) of an unbeliever, will work to transform an unbeliever into a believer.

    PROPHECY is evangelistic.
23       Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?
24       But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all.
25       And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.
26       How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
27       If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret.
28       But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.
29       Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.
30       But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent.
31       For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32       And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

God has an amazing calling upon the saints who would have ears to hear Him in these days.

FOR THE ACCURATE AND EFFECTIVE FULFILLMENT OF THAT CALLING…
    It comes down to intimacy.
It comes down to time spent w Him.
It comes down to having the word in you, so that when the Lord moves upon you what you speak and pray and prophesy is in conjunction w His personality, will and purpose.

The enemy will definitely try to trip you up – hang you up, puff you up.
    You can withstand that.

    Eph 6:12-13
12       For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13       Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand..

It all comes down to a WHOLE ARMOR walk that God is calling every saint into, especially in the upcoming critical days, and especially for ones called into ACTIVE prophetic ministry of any kind.

DO NOT RELY UPON YOUR GIFTINGS to see you through to glory.
Remember what Jesus said, when they told Him they had prophesied and cast out demons in His name.

    Matthew 7:21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

RELY UPON YOUR CONSISTENT INTIMATE, FULL WALK WITH GOD.
That and that alone will be your safe place.

I’ve sadly seen highly anointed people fall. We have too many examples of that, biblically as well as historically.

Everything in order is what we want. Always. All the time.

    Isaiah 33:14-16
    14 The sinners (IN ZION, the place of relation w God) in Zion are afraid;
    Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:
“Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire?
Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”
15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
He who despises the gain of oppressions,
Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes,
Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed,
And shuts his eyes from seeing evil:
    16 He will dwell on high;
    His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks;
    Bread will be given him,
    His water will be sure.

    Isaiah 33:6
6 Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times,
    And the strength of salvation;
The fear of the Lord is His treasure.

Dead Prophets Society

Until today, I would read the huge jeopardy placed upon the OT prophet (in this declaration of Moses – verses 20), and shudder at their accountability, back then:

Deuteronomy 18:15-22
A New Prophet Like Moses
15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,
16 according to all you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’
17 “And the Lord said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good.
18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.
19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.
20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’
21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’—
22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Verse 20 is confirmed, in the physical, when Jeremiah found himself in conflict with a cadre of false prophets who were prophesying easy times ahead during a period when God had other plans:

Jeremiah 28:15-17
15 Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Hear now, Hananiah, the Lord has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie.
16 Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will cast you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the Lord.’ ”
17 So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

Hananiah’s teaching of rebellion was actually Hananiah proclaiming God moving on behalf of Israel and breaking the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar. It sounded like a good thing, except it flew in the face of the stronger, more difficult, and less popular words of Jeremiah. Jeremiah was likely less of a draw at the conferences than Hananiah.

It also should be noted that there were many other false prophets during the OT days, and we do not have accounts of all of them prophesying-and-dying either on the spot or within the year (like Hananiah) of their foolishness, so one might be inclined to (I’d think rightly) conclude that their deaths may have been in a spiritual sense, like Adam and Eve, who died the day they sinned. Sin will do that to you.

Genesis 2:17
17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Adam and Eve physically lived for lots more years. But they were spiritual zombies – the walking dead – for the rest of their physical lives.

QUES: SO WHAT RECENTLY CHANGED IN MY PERCEPTION OF THIS (DEUT 18) WARNING TO THE OT PROPHETS?

ANSWER: I AM MORE AND MORE OF THE MIND THAT THIS WARNING MIGHT INDEED BE TO ALL PROPHETS IN BOTH TESTAMENTS.

I come to that conclusion because the verses of Deut 15 are one ongoing and uninterrupted communiqué from God to mankind, via Moses, in which God is speaking into the future, about when Jesus makes His appearance.

ONE MORE TIME:
(Deut 15):
17 “And the Lord said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good.
18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.
19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.
20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’

That later-to-be-raised-up Prophet is Jesus, as identified clearly by Peter in his call to repentance. That same portion of scripture is also mentioned by Stephen, in his one and only recorded sermon – to the religious leaders:

PETER SAYS:
Acts 3:22-23
22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you.

23 And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people. ’

STEPHEN SAYS:
Acts 7:37
37 “ This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear. ’

A while back I wrote an article called UNTEMPERED MORTAR pertaining to this topic. But as things heat up, I feel a reconsideration of this matter is in order, for our safety and accuracy, and also for our effectiveness in accomplishing the purposes of God.

The let’s-have-fun-and-prophesy days need to be done and gone. We should be trembling at the word of God, DEFINITELY anticipating and allowing Him to move through us and speak through us, BUT very carefully and prayerfully moving in this arena.

The true and accurate prophetic voice is being called forth in this critical season, and I believe we will see a greater confirmation of the words of the true prophets, and a more obvious exposure of the false prophets, the goofy prophets, the well-intended but inaccurate prophets. I further believe we will see the corrective hand of our Lord on the prophets who prophesy falsely, hoping something will happen, instead of hearing from the Lord and setting forth that which they’ve heard, no more and no less.

Here’s the promise of increased spiritual activity as we come closer to the end of the age: Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17.

Especially with that increased activity, the warnings must be heeded.

Ezekiel 13:3-10
3 Thus says the Lord God:“ Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!
4 O Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the deserts.
5 You have not gone up into the gaps to build a wall for the house of Israel to stand in battle on the day of the Lord.
6 They have envisioned futility and false divination, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord! ’ But the Lord has not sent them; yet they hope that the word may be confirmed.
7 Have you not seen a futile vision, and have you not spoken false divination? You say, ‘The Lord says, ’ but I have not spoken.”
8 Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Because you have spoken nonsense and envisioned lies, therefore I am indeed against you,” says the Lord God.
9 “My hand will be against the prophets who envision futility and who divine lies; they shall not be in the assembly of My people, nor be written in the record of the house of Israel, nor shall they enter into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord God.
10 “ Because, indeed, because they have seduced My people, saying, ‘ Peace! ’ when there is no peace —and one builds a wall, and they plaster it with untempered mortar

Jeremiah puts it this way, and even discloses the ever and always popular message of ones who prophesy from their own hearts:

Jeremiah 6:14
14 They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly,
Saying, ‘ Peace, peace! ’
When there is no peace.

That of course does not mean true prophets will not speak kind and good messages as well. They will, and the must, when they hear such words. There is no validation of office in harshness or heaviness of message. The issue is not the TOPIC. The issue is the fact that a prophet heard it from God.

HEY WAIT – Didn’t Paul declare ALL CAN PROPHESY?

Of course he did:
1 Corinthians 14:31-32
31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

The potential is there for us to all prophesy. All CAN. But WILL all pay the price of obedience to prophesy accurately? The activity of that potential is contingent upon our deep relationship with the Lord, and us having ears to hear.

Is that all-can-prophesy proclamation a NEW THING, only a NT THING?

Numbers 11:29
29 Then Moses said to him, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the Lord ‘s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them,

God’s heart has always been that all of His people might be in the place of deep relationship with Him, hear His voice, understand His ways, and prophesy. THAT would be the nation of priests the Lord originally intended for Israel, and then made a way to happen by the blood of our Savior.

But let’s face it – we’re all not yet walking in all that the Lord has provided for us to walk in, and God in this season is allowing and even causing things to happen to drive and draw us to the place of deeper intimacy. So let’s expect more true prophets to rise up – even while the noise of the false prophets will understandably increase.

We hear lots of prophetic words and see lots of prophetic activity that sounds good, but much of which does not come to pass. The ones who would continue to ignore the instruction and warning of scripture, walking around proclaiming the “words of the Lord” when they are not the words of the Lord, constitute the Dead Prophet’s Society.

Thank God for repentance, and for resurrection in Christ. God is wanting us all to get this thing right. And by His grace, we can.

I believe the more we understand who God is, how He operates, what He says, and what His word says, the safer we will be and the more confident we will be when we indeed hear His voice. We will be more able to discern not only what is of Him, but also what is not of Him.

I totally believe the Lord is OK with us learning, and growing and maturing – which would mean even making some “prophetic mistakes”. But I do not see where the Lord has ever been pleased with people making believe they are prophets when they are not. In fact, I don’t scripturally see the Lord pleased with anyone ever making believe they attained to any title or office, when they have not.

To the contrary.

I read of a greater accountability upon us all in the NT dispensation, not a lesser one.

Hebrews 12:25
See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,

Jeremiah 23 (good reading) both WARNS the prophet to exercise extreme care in their activity, and at the same time CHARGES the ones who hear from God to speak forth that which they hear from the Lord and recognize as being public words. Some things we hear from God are for us to pray into, and not proclaim. Another topic. He shares His heart with His servants.

There is no safe-place-in-silence. There is only a safe place in obedience. There’s times to be silent, and times to speak.

All this said, Peter puts it this way:
1 Peter 4:11
11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
