Short Time Living

1 Cor 7:29 – But this I say, brethren, the time is short…….

Positioned within an instruction on marriage (the most sacred man to woman covenant) is a revelation verse re the urgency of our Kingdom prioritization of time – which is becoming more and more critical as we witness daily-increasing rage, confusion, turmoil and spiritual warfare. Paul was/is declaring a universal truth that should be respected and complied with regardless of even the most critical situation of ___________________ (fill in your own blank). Its “interruptive” scriptural positioning is not interruptive at all. Its positioning is to valuate its priority, and is similar to the 1 Corinthians “love chapter” interrupting Paul’s important discourse on spiritual gifts: Without love, exercise of spiritual gifting is vain and simply noisy.

Here, Paul is telling us that all things, even marriage, must be properly addressed within a context of divine urgency.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31
29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none,
30 those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess,
31 and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.

Paul is neither being insensitive nor heartless. He’s not telling us marriage isn’t sacred or not worthy of critical priority. He’s telling us the Kingdom priority is the Kingdom priority, and from such a perspective, all other things will then work properly.

JESUS TOLD US:
Matthew 6:33
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

JESUS MODELED FOR US – fully cognizant of the “first commandment with a promise” (honoring father and mother),  our young Lord nonetheless personally modeled Kingdom prioritization for us by lingering in the temple without his parents knowledge (or, therefore, permission):
Luke 2:48-49
48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

The brief book of Haggai is a case study of diligent labors failing, outside the priorities of God. The happy conclusion is the people getting things right and God responding with a promise of blessing, even though the season for agricultural abundance would be contradictory to natural logic.

Titus 2:11-15
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

Paul foresaw that these words would be susceptible to “works-based” accusation (“Let no one despise you” – when you speak these inconvenient truths). He nonetheless wrote them, and told Titus (and all others) to proclaim and comply with them,  because he loves the church and desires our destiny to be fulfilled.

Worship’s Critical Timing . Satan knowing that. Saints understanding that.

The SPECIFIC timeliness of this post is RIGHT NOW, July 23. The seasonal timeliness extends beyond this one day, and our awareness, response and engagement should increase as we get closer to the return of our Lord.

Please consider engaging in specific and focused prayer and worship today.

The following was received this from a friend in Israel last night and I did not read it til this AM, so this notice is very last minute. This is likely happening in Jersualem right now, or within hours. This is about as critical as it gets when it comes to warfare in the heavenly realms, manifesting on earth. I would humbly ask for you to read the Israeli new article via the link, and the somewhat lengthy post, and respond accordingly. Last night was a Burn event in the South Bay. This is great. Our response must be worship and praise and prayer. Like the physical occurrences of violence on earth these days, there is a war coming to us, whether or not we choose to recognize or admit that fact. Our response matters. These days are not “business as usual”, but instead business as unusual.

This article is in line w my personal thoughts and beliefs re the times we’re in, what is upcoming eschatologically, as heaven as well as earth is shaking, and even what is being discussed and taught and engaged in the past few Thursday evenings at the Lomita facility re our position and call for prayer and worship in the these critical times.

The following is the email I just received from a friend in Arad Israel. Rick Ridings, mentioned in the article, is someone else I’ve met and spoken w in Israel. These are credible sources. Remember: we win.

THE EMAIL:
“The thing that gets me is that today is also the 17th day of Tammuz which is the fast of Tammuz which commemorates the breaching of the walls of Jerusalem at the time of Babylon.

These are the points of prayer from Rick Ridings:

SOME KEY WAYS TO PRAY:
1. DIVISION

Although Satan obviously uses this weapon against Christians and Messianic Jewish believers, Yeshua (Jesus) clearly taught it as something we are to use against the demonic powers and those controlled by them:
“So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come.” Mark 3:23-26
After declaring the protection of the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ over ourselves and over our families, let us declare division over this effort to “UNITE” these gateway cities and their youth in demonic covenants. May there be division in their relationships, communications, and technical attempts to “UNITE”.
2. DISRUPTION

In 2006, I was part of a group of Jerusalem pastors and ministry leaders who were led to proclaim in unity that the gates to our city be closed to a large, world-wide gay event that was to bring over 100,000 gays together for days of “revelry” in Jerusalem. This also was to be around the 17th of Tammuz. But Hizballah started firing missiles into Northern Israel, and the army announced that, for security reasons, all large events were cancelled, as they did not have the extra manpower to provide security for events. Let us agree that there will be major disruptions of this event, both in Jerusalem, and in the six other cities and nations, where it is scheduled: May the Lord of the Armies of Heaven release His mighty arsenal of creative weapons to disrupt and stop this event from reaching its goals.
3. DELAY

There are times when we are called to delay the enemy’s plans when he attempts to accelerate events ahead of the Lord’s timing. In Revelation 10:6 an angel declares, before an outpouring of judgment, that “There will be no more delay!. This implies that there had in previous times been delays in the mercy of God. There are times when we as intercessors are to proclaim: “Let there be a moment of delay”. This is like hitting the “pause button” on what the enemy may later be allowed to do. I believe this is one such moment, when a generation of young people in Israel and around the world is ripe for a mighty movement of the Holy Spirit. Let us pray for this delay, that this generation will not be unknowingly swept by unholy worship music into making covenants with the spirits of death, but that this generation will be freed from the power of demonic sounds to hear the sound of the Lord, and to come into the life-giving worship of the One, True, Living God.
4. DECLARE HIS PRAISES

It is obvious that the demonic beings understand the power of music to open hearts to the spiritual realms. As they are seeking to deceive and capture the souls of youth through their demonically anointed music, we need to release the far greater power of anointed worship music to sing “songs of deliverance” over a generation and over Jerusalem. About 25 years ago, we received an assignment from the Lord to counter a 2,000-year-old altar to Baal located on property of the Royal family in Belgium. When they kindly allowed an employee to guide us to this altar in the forest, we found a stack of large, flat stones. We felt the Lord guided us to not pray a thing, but simply to worship, and we sang: “For Thou O LORD, are high above all the gods…We exalt Thee”. When another team went there just six months later, the employee was shocked to find that the 2,000-year-old stack of stones had crumbled into small pebbles strewn on the ground!
5. DISCLOSURE

We need to pray that this will not remain hidden, but will be exposed and revealed, especially to spiritual leaders/gatekeepers and Intercessors of the seven cities/countries targeted. Also, we need to pray that the youth, and especially the youth of Israel, will not be let astray by the lies of the enemy and lured into his traps.”

Let us pray that this generation in Israel will not be deceived into “marrying the Land to Baal”, but that they will receive and enact the revelation of Isaiah 62:4b,5a: “…to Him your Land will be married. For as a young man marries a virgin, so your sons will marry you.”
Can plunder be taken from warriors,
or captives be rescued from the fierce?
But this is what the Lord says:
“Yes, captives will be taken from warriors,
and plunder retrieved from the fierce;
I will contend with those who contend with you,
and your children I will save.” – Isaiah 49:24-25

Prayer In These Times – Week Three Notes

We are praying and seeking the Lord as to how these gatherings continue forward and what it looks like. Suffice to say that there will be alternating evenings of prayer and worship and time in the Word. For now, our focus will definitely be on prayer, and things related to prayer, to get us into a deeper place of revelation, as we begin engaging in active prayer. Part of our being Spirit-led is allowing the Spirit to guide us even in our format for meeting.

I do hope these meetings have had impact on your prayer life, on how you look at prayer and how you engage in prayer, and how you appreciate the “prayer opportunity”. More than the “charge” and the “instruction” and the “admonition” to pray, what is wonderful is when we get to a place of understanding that prayer is an opportunity for the Kingdom of heaven to come in and invade the kingdom of man – through our revelation of God’s will, through our anointing that is imparted to us, through our ability to take before the throne of the King the issues of life.

Quite importantly, in these most-shaking days, it’s also critical for us to understand the URGENT REQUIREMENT for the prayer of the saints.
It will be our survival and success, and in large part it could mean the survival of our society and our nation.

Each and every day is demonstrating the increase in intensity and frequency of wild events.
Man grows in his defiance of God.

I recently wrote something called: “THE EXALTATION OF WICKEDNESS”.
Ps 12 begins w the psalmist crying: “Help O Lord for the godly man ceases” and then concludes w the revelation as to why things are so awful, and getting worse all the time, until the return of the Lord.

The spiritual forces behind all this is not going to be withstood unless and until the church is praying as it called to pray.

Isa 28 offers a prophetic promise to the warriors of the Lord who understand the battle, and also the reward to those who would engage:
Isa 28
5 In that day the Lord of hosts will be
For a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty
To the remnant of His people,
6 For a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment,
And for strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

This is A season during which we should be prioritizing prayer, and in many way I believe it is THE season, prior to the Lord’s return, when we need to be prioritizing prayer in order to finish well.

AND SPEAKING OF GATES – points of entry – HERE IS THE HOPE:

Ps 24 (we touched on this earlier) – but this time the complete psalm – to reveal our qualifications to be receivers of His presence.
Psalm 24:

(The declaration of God’s sovereign ownership by virtue of it being His creation)
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
2 For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters.

(The question of ANY PERSON’S qualification)
3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?

(The qualifications for attendance)
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.

(The reward for that “perfect person” who might possess those qualities – which in the natural would disqualify us all)
5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.

(The miraculous revelation that there exists SOMETHING that can qualify even those whose fundamental spiritual DNA would disqualify them even from the womb – Jacob being referred to as “the deceiver” or “supplanter” – AND ALSO THE REVELATION as to what would over-ride that disqualification: DESPERATE HUNGER)
6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him,
Who seek Your face.
Selah

(NOW, with that revelation – here’s the invitation to those who recognize their sincere hunger qualifies them)
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!

(THE ASSURANCE AND THE PROMISE)
And the King of glory shall come in.

(THE QUESTION AND THE ANSWER: The One who reigns in sovereign authority)
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
He is the King of glory.
Selah

Here’s what the Lord confirms in Isa 65 – after dealing w the majority of the ones who are NOT going after Him in spirit and in truth:
ISA 65

THE REVELATION OF THE REMNANT
8 Thus says the Lord:
“As the new wine is found in the cluster,
And one says, ‘Do not destroy it,
For a blessing is in it,’
So will I do for My servants’ sake,
That I may not destroy them all.

THE PROMISE
9 I will bring forth descendants from Jacob,
And from Judah an heir of My mountains;
My elect shall inherit it,
And My servants shall dwell there.

THE CONFIRMATION OF REWARD FOR SEEKING HIM
10 Sharon shall be a fold of flocks,
And the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down,
For My people who have sought Me.

THE CHASE needs to be on.
That is our choice.
We choose to chase God.

In determining to CHASE GOD, we enter into the qualified group that is invited to lift up their heads, so the King of glory might come in.
And there is no better place for that, than the place of prayer – the intimate and personal place – even when we gather in groups – where time is spent on God and time spent with God.

To be effective, we should pray ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES. There are assurances, when we pray accurately, w understanding.

A FAVORITE PLACE for me, in these days, as we see a society eroding because of its raging against God.
I KNOW Psalm 125 CONTAINS A PROMISE, AND I KNOW I AM NOT “STRETCHING IT” FOR MY PURPOSES – SO I CAN PRAY IT W CONFIDENCE OF ITS ACCURACY.
Psalm 125:1-3
1 Those who trust in the Lord
Are like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.
3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
On the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.

It’s good to understand this Psalm, LIKE ANY PSALM, so it can be prayed effectively.
At first blush, it looks like it is ABOUT Mount Zion in Jerusalem – but it is not. The promise is way broader than that. It says THOSE – any people group, anywhere, who trust in the Lord will be LIKE (equivalent to, seen by God as) Mount Zion – and that becomes unmovable.
Then verse assures that IN LIKE MANNER AS HOW GOD SURROUNDS JERUSALEM – He will surround that group who trust in Him – and that is a “forevermore” promise.
Then verse 3 – which is pregnant w promise, tells us that a covenant land can gain access to a place of rescue and deliverance because – if we’re reading the Word – we know God is QANA over His people, all around the world – any place on earth.

THAT IS WHY we want the Word in us, and understood by us – so that our prayers can be most effective.
Look at these portions of Isa 55 – They are HHY – HAVEN’T HAPPENED YET. We know the nations have not yet flocked to the people of God.

In fact, it has very much been to the contrary. But we know this WILL HAPPEN. So we can wait w expectation for these things to occur, and for the fullness of these verses to happen – and I believe our prayers can activate these events to happen, as we fill those bowls in heaven.

Understanding these intended purposes, and praying in faith, we are literally partnering w God in His word not returning void, but instead, in His word being fulfilled.

LOOKING AT “THE WORD OF GOD NOT RETURNING VOID….” – often proclaimed, and then nothing happens. Let’s see how that is explained to us:

ISA 55
5 Surely you shall call a nation you do not know,
And nations who do not know you shall run to you,
Because of the Lord your God,
And the Holy One of Israel;
For He has glorified you.”
(HHY – so it sets the timing for fulfillment)

6 Seek the Lord while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,

11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

THAT is HOW you want to be praying – in ALIGNMENT and OBEDIENCE and LED by the Spirit of God, so that your prayers can truly be prayed in the faith that you are speaking and proclaiming the word of God – and can believe Him for success in your prayers – that your prayers do not return void.

If WE are praying simply what we are THINKING, we’re already told WHAT God is thinking is higher than what WE are thinking.

And God’s desire is to reveal to us what He is thinking:
1 Cor 2:11, 12
For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

THERE is an ACTIVE AND ONGOING REVELATION OF THE SPIRIT that we are going after.
And the church without the Spirit is a dead church.

Remember when Jesus was responding to Satan’s lies, and told him this:
MATT 4:4
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy 8 (a favorite chapter of mine as it led me on an amazing journey of revelation, years ago, that continues to this day).
Deut 8:3 says:
3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

(YOU CAN READ THE FOLLOWING ON YOUR OWN – I don’t want to get hung up on this cool thing, for time-sake)
FIRST – The OT Hebrew word typically translated into “WORD” is DABAR. But that does not come up as the Hebrew word used in Deut 8 – because there is no word “WORD” in Deut 8:3.

What would more accurately be written would be:
“Man does not live by bread alone, but by EVERY (all things!) that proceed from the mouth of God”
GOD’S ENTIRE CREATION-WILL AND PLAN AND SUBSTANCE CAME FORTH – WHEN HE SPOKE. It is so much bigger than the word “WORD”.

FOR our prayer-focused purposes in this class – that is NOT what I want to focus on. I want us to consider THE TENSE of WHAT IS COMING OUT OF GOD’S MOUTH.

We would do well to understand that the PROCESSION of the revealed will of God CONTINUES, always.

Jesus did NOT recite Deut 8 and tell us “…every (word) that proceeded (in the past) from the mouth of God”.

The ongoing revelation of His will is revealed to us, oftentimes, as we pray.
There is a divine necessity to remain in continuous communication w God, in the Spirit.

This coordinates perfectly w Romans 8 – once again – so that we recognize the critical nature of Spirit-led, Spirit-infused LIFE and PRAYER:

Rom 8:14-28
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

23-25 speak to a groaning work of waiting, w expectation, and then tells us this is God’s HELPER for us during this travailing period

23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

(HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS AND GREAT RELIEF RE THE EFFECTIVENESS AND POTENTIAL OF HOLY-SPIRIT INFUSED PRAYER: We don’t really need to know all the things we specifically need to be praying for, nor HOW to pray for some of them – because the Holy Spirit, IN US, is in complete harmony with the purposes of heaven, and HE KNOWS how we ought to be praying. He wants to pray FOR YOU THROUGH YOU)
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
AND THEN WE GET THE “ALL THINGS….” PROMISE VERSE – within this context of Holy-Spirit infused, Spirit led life:
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

PAUL’S DISCOURSE ON TONGUES AND HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER, leading into PROPHECY

He starts by saying this:
1 Cor 12
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:

Then he interrupts his 2-chapter instructional by telling us that unless we’re doing everything and anything out of true love, it is simply noise, and religion.
Then he goes back to finish up what is so critical to a Spirit-led, Spirit-infused life – which is one huge reason why our enemy has so campaigned against our walking in this authority – and his campaign has in many ways been most successful INSIDE the church.

I believe, in large part, that is why Jesus said the following – THIS IS CRITICAL FOR US TO UNDERSTAND AS THE CHALLENGE APPROACH US:
Mark 3
28 “Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter;
29 but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”—
30 because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Luke 12
10 “And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.
11 “Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say.
12 For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

What we see, above, is Jesus assuring us of a Spirit-directed life in the most critical of times, and those times are being resisted EVEN by the ones who ought to be understanding the things of God.

The greater sin is calling the spirit-active components of God “unclean” or “demonic” or “not of God” – which actually takes place more IN church than OUT of church.
OUT of church, ignorant people typically bad-mouth Jesus.
IN church, it’s the ones w the charge to humbly know God and His ways, who have been raging against the Holy Spirit. Their accountability is greater. Hence, the warning above from the mouth of our Lord.

Preemptively, that is why Paul told us he did not want us ignorant of these things – because the church has blasphemously led many saints into that ignorance, speaking and teaching against these critical verses. And ignorance of the fullness of the Kingdom plan hamstrings saints.
EPH – “Having done all, to stand” becomes an impossibility.

ONE KEY to understanding these verses in Corinthians is to recognize when it says SPEAK and when it says PRAY/PRAYER.

SPEAKING is public speaking out.
PRAYING is to God – but individually as well as publicly.
It would clarify things to recognize where Paul is writing about SPEAKING in tongues and where is writing about PRAYING in tongues.

LALEO – g2980. λαλέω laleō; a prolonged form of an otherwise obsolete verb; to talk, i.e. utter words: — preach, say, speak (after), talk, tell, utter.

PROSEUCHOMAI – g4336. προσεύχομαι; from 4314 and 2172; to pray to God,

1 Cor 14
13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say?
17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;
19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.

Then Paul goes on to reveal to us that our obedience to opening our mouths, in the Spirit, and praying and speaking in tongues – although it does not EDIFY (build up) OTHERS, it will edify our own spirits, so that we might prophesy.

And he tells us that our obedience to this spiritual charge is a prophetic declaration to the unbelieving world that one kingdom has been called by God to invade and overtake another kingdom.
THE WORDING PAUL USED is from Isaiah 28 – and only Isaiah 28 – and refers to anointed Nebuchadnezzar who was being called to invade disobedient Israel.
That was a WICKED KINGDOM being used by God to invade and conquer.
PAUL is telling us that the Spirit led children of God, in this age, are being called to represent a way more holy invasion – of God’s kingdom into the world.

ISA 28
21 In the law it is written:
“With men of other tongues and other lips
I will speak to this people;
And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,” says the Lord.
22 Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
23 Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?
24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all.
25 And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.

So we would do well to be filled w the Spirit of God, and to walk in all the fullness of the provisions of God, to accomplish His purposes. THAT will open the door for our infilling.

This is why Jesus told His disciples:
Luke 24
49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

ACTS 1
7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

LET’S PRAY RIGHT NOW – for that infilling of the Spirit – be it your first time or your thousandth time.

BACK TO HAGGAI (which we read earlier) – the PROMISE OF GLORY around the time of the SHAKING-WORK:
God will fill His temple with glory – as we saw last week the Solomon-temple-dedication bunny trail – which we will get back to shortly, this evening.

There is a distinct correlation between PRAYER, THE PRESENCE OF GOD, AND THE FILLING WITH GLORY:
Hag 2:7-9
7 ‘and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts.
8 ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the LORD of hosts.
9 ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the LORD of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the LORD of hosts.”

Isaiah tells us the GLORY-FILLED FINAL TEMPLE is going to be a certain kind of place – accessible to Jew and Gentile alike – this is the temple that the Lord
A. Is Preparing FOR US; and
B. Is Preparing US FOR:

WE NEED TO GET A VISION OF THIS END-PLAN:
This is yet another reason why He is “divinely working us over” to get us to the place of Spirit-filled living, through Spirit-filled prayer.

Isa 56:6-7
(the promise extending beyond the sons of Abraham who come to the Lord):
6 “Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to the LORD, to serve Him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be His servants– everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and holds fast My covenant–
7 Even them I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

God’s great plan has ONE age coming to an end, and THE NEXT age immediately following, like DAY follows NIGHT.
That NEXT AGE is going to see a rebuilt temple, filled with people who:
KNOW TO PRAY; and also
KNOW HOW TO PRAY

I believe the season we are entering, and in fact have already entered, is a season of intensified conflict. GOD, knowing that, is allowing our prayers to WORK when they are in alignment w Him and His word, and also to NOT WORK when they are out of that alignment.

HE IS TRAINING US TO ENGAGE IN PRAYER WARFARE, EFFECTIVELY, NOW.

What we are seeing in these and many other prophetic verses is an IMAGE OF THE PURPOSES OF GOD at the END of THIS AGE, and then extending into the NEXT AGE.

Furthermore, and critical for our understanding of the PRIORITY OF PRAYER is this amazing fact that ought to ignite our understanding of:
our WORTH,
our POSITION,
our CALLING and
our PARTNERSHIP into the CREATION PLAN OF GOD.

CRITICAL NT REVELATION as to God’s prophetic plan – that WILL SURELY come to pass – is the BATTLE FOR OUR WORSHIP.

The scriptures make it clear that Satan’s ultimate goal was to get Jesus Himself to worship him.
(Luke 4:6-8). That is ongoing. Scriptures describing the end-of-age anti-Christ man illustrates someone so demonized that even world control will not satisfy him. He will demand worship.

THE RESISTANCE TO OUR PRAYERS, and our PRAYING:
So what we need to realize is that Satan (Hebrew: “Adversary”) rages against prayer and worship. It is his worst nightmare – a praying, worshipping saint.

Besides Satan’s promise to Jesus – that He’d get everything were He to worship Satan, it was and remains in complete opposition to the purpose of mankind.
We were meant for worship and prayer – only to God.
LUKE 8
And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'”

This is why WE, as redeemed creatures, consistently encounter so much opposition to prayer – opposition to wanting to pray, to engage in prayer, to remain in prayer, to stay awake in prayer, and to surrender in prayer.

Some Biblical Promises – and we’re invited to remind the Lord of His promises:
A FAMOUS BIGGEE – couched in the CONTEXT of the prophetic paragraph – for clarity and emphasis:
(LAST WEEK we concluded with the prayer of Solomon at the dedication of the temple – a doctrinally accurate and effective prayer that ushered in the presence of God.

WRAPPING UP TONIGHT and looking at the amazing response and promise BY GOD, after Solomon had so powerfully and so accurately prayed at the dedication of the temple:
2 Chr 7:1-2
1 When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
2 And the priests could not enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.

SHORTLY THEREAFTER
2 Chr 7:12-22
12 Then the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.
13 “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people,
14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
….God’s dream-dialogue w Solomon continues to confirm the accuracy of Solomon’s earlier temple-dedication prayer, accurately describing the cause and effect of man’s sinfulness and God’s righteous judgment.

Meanwhile, for us, let’s close w a prayer that would move God and put a smile on Solomon’s face – praying for our nation.

The Exaltation Of Vileness

When God created the heavens and earth, He set things up perfectly.
Time and again, throughout the Genesis 1 account, we can see the same words declared over and over again: “And God saw that it was good.”

When He created living creatures (including mankind) it actually goes one step further:
Gen 1:31 – Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.

Over time, God then proceeded to reveal His laws to His people, assuring them that the rules were good, and that in choosing to comply with them, things would go well.

By the time we progress to Deuteronomy 4, we see Moses declaring this truth:
Deut 4:7-9
7 “For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?
8 And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day?
9 Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life….

Sadly, over the millennia, the scriptures have been argued against, mocked, ridiculed, scorned, prohibited, and cast aside. And how has that been working out for us, particularly of late?

There will come a day when each and every man will be judged by the standards of the laws of God. Until that day, those very scriptures assure us we will, for the most, witness greater and greater rebellion, and more and more trouble. Does the situation sound familiar?

Proverbs 14:34 tells us this:
34 Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a reproach to any people.

As our nation in particular and society in general rages against God and arrogantly determines it will resist the immutable laws of creation, declaring things that God Himself declared to be wrong and perverted as being right and acceptable, we ought only to expect more and more trouble. It is a matter of cause and effect.

The psalmist tells us this in Psalm 12. Biblically, the number 12 represents judgment, by the way.

After bemoaning the workings of mankind, and prophesying that a day will come when those that rage against God and His laws will be cut off, we’re told:

Psalm 12
6 The words of the Lord are pure words,
Like silver tried in a furnace of earth,
Purified seven times.

7 You shall keep them, O Lord,
You shall preserve them from this generation forever.

And then comes verse 8 – that succinctly explains why things are this dark and getting darker, this wicked and bound to get more wicked, this violent and bound to get more violent.

8 The wicked prowl on every side,
When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

Vileness has been, and continues to be, exalted. What God calls right has been declared wrong, outdated, unreasonable, and unfair. In the name of “freedom” we’ve legislated murder. In the name of pleasure we’ve legislated illegal unions. In the name of entertainment and art, we’ve manufactured and produced gratuitous violence and lewdness. A woman who takes her clothes off for one man, for money, is called a prostitute. A woman who takes her clothes off for a million men, for money, is called an actress.

In so conducting ourselves and in so condoning and supporting the lifestyles of others who choose to live that way, vileness continues to get exalted, and the floodgate of wickedness has been thrown open. Psalm 12 verse 8 is alive, in place, and active. The fact that we may not correlate vileness (according to God’s standards) to the prowling of wickedness throughout the earth, on all levels, is moot.

The issue is not really more or less laws of man. The issue is not which bathroom which gender might choose to use, nor is the issue gun control. The issue is self-control – a fruit of the Spirit of God that allows and empowers men and women to live properly in His sight, according to His laws, at which time things will work really well.

The really good news in all this is that God offers man a way out of sin, and vileness, and wickedness. It’s called forgiveness through repentance. The divine plan has never been for perfect-God to sit back and watch imperfect-man live imperfectly, and then eventually for God to rise up and destroy sinful man. God is way more wonderful than that. Throughout both testaments, there has been forgiveness through repentance. In the New Testament age in which we now find ourselves, Jewish Jesus represents the ultimate (and only) sin offering for everyone, everywhere. And meanwhile, we are witnessing empirical proof that anything but that truth won’t and can’t work.

People living in true relationship with God submit themselves to His laws, and then life works. That is when true love can prevail. Without the laws of God, love will not prevail. Society and life will corrupt and eventually collapse. It becomes a house of cards. It is the ongoing biblical account of man raging against God.

The New Testament, in perfect alignment with the Old Testament Hebrew scriptures, further tells us that these conditions will prevail on earth prior to the end of this age:

2 Timothy 3
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,
7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Even the people of God can find themselves caught up in polarizing discussions and philosophical arguments that offer band-aid solutions to the mortal wound of sin through disobedience. We would do well to pray and repent for our nation, and live as light, offering every man salvation, warning every man, understanding their accountability as well as our own accountability, and declaring and preparing for the imminent return of our Lord.

The word of God is the instruction manual for life. We’re told how to treat our pets, love our neighbors, raise our children, govern our lands. We’re told about camping and singing and how to function in the marketplace so everyone prospers. And we’re told by biblical example that unless we conduct ourselves according to the instruction manual of a loving Creator, we will fail.

THE ONLY REMEDY: Here is true healing, including the revelation that God Himself will war against the disobedience of mankind unless/until we come back to Him and His ways, on His terms:

Hosea 6
1 Come, and let us return to the Lord;
For He has torn, but He will heal us;
He has stricken, but He will bind us up.
2 After two days He will revive us;
On the third day He will raise us up,
That we may live in His sight.
3 Let us know,
Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.
His going forth is established as the morning;
He will come to us like the rain,
Like the latter and former rain to the earth.

We of course would wisely couch the promises of latter and former rain with the further knowledge of this age drawing to a close, quickly, before our eyes.

Prayer In These Times – Session Two Notes – 7.7.16

My notes for THIS WEEK have been modified from what was sent out prior to last week. It goes that way. Some points I had written to discuss LATER actually were covered last week. It just happens. And we made time for prayer last week. That was great. I want to continue doing that during these sessions.
AGAIN: These are my notes for a teaching. There’s some lengthy portions of scripture NOT broken down or explained in this written text. THE PLAN is to address them during the session.

We left off last week looking at the critical nature of the establishment of the new-born church, w all its bonafide needs, and meanwhile we see the leadership making this decision:

ACTS 6:
3 “Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;
4 “but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”
5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch,
6 whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them.
THE RESULT:
7 Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.

One of the TRAPS OF URGENCY is distraction from prayer.
And yet the scriptures illustrate SUCCESS in our SINGLE-MINDEDNESS and DETERMINATION TO PRAY.

The past few weeks I’ve become aware of several tough situations that saints find themselves in, and in several of the cases – granted from the outside looking in – but still looking in – it appears that there may have been “SPIRITUALLY MORE EFFECTIVE” decisions made and priorities established, and biblical method complied with, that likely might have resulted in better outcome. I am just saying……

PAUL said it this way:
1 Cor 11:1
1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

Paul’s admonishment to “IMITATE” comes w the understanding that the “imitate” was not a matter of doing the same DEEDS as Jesus, but instead emulating the same lifestyle of 100% desperately chasing God – in as best alignment w the word of God as possible. That will be our success.

PAUL SAYS AGAIN:
1Thes 5:16-22
16 Rejoice always,
17 pray without ceasing, ( I BELIEVE THERE’S A KEY HERE – a mind & spirit continually in dialogue w God)
18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
20 Do not despise prophecies.
21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.
22 Abstain from every form of evil.

I am of the mind that as the days get darker, the weight of this next scripture will impact us more and more:

Eph 6:11-12
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
(Paul isn’t even talking about forward progress. Here is saying that on the darkest of days, our being fully equipped will keep us standing).

17-19
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints–
19 and for me (intercessory prayer for those at the tip of the spear), that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,

Part of us having CHRIST in us is coming into agreement w biblical truth – living out the scriptures in obedience and faith.
We’re called LIVING EPISTLES.
IF all the word of God is going to be in alignment, and it is, then your “anointing” to be a living epistle will have your life, your struggles, your successes and your failures, all coming into alignment w the truth of scripture. So if God wants to world to know that EPHESIANS 6 is TRUE, how can we logically anticipate success and authority in kingdom situations if we are living at a level below biblical truth?
I am so challenged by that.
ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, our lives as the people of God will confirm scripture.

A GLORIOUS TRUTH: IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO COUNTERFEIT having spent time w God
Acts 4:10, 13
10 “let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.
11 “This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’
12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

JEALOUS/ZEALOUS (qana) God is jealous for those who are His. He MARKS THEM (like Moses, when he came down from the mountain and his face shown.
There is no “pretending” or “making believe” that someone has spent time w Jesus. It in fact ends up looking silly, religious or much worse – when someone wants to FAKE Kingdom authority or anointing:

FIRST – AN EXAMPLE OF THE “WORSE” – getting into the deep issues of the Kingdom, without being in the deep place of relationship w God:
Acts 19:13-18
13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.”
14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so.
15 And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”
16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17 This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
THE RESULT OF THEIR FAILURE STILL CONFIRMED SCRIPTURAL TRUTH – albeit to the negative
18 And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds.

KEY REVELATION RE PRAYER – BY OUR LORD – HOW to pray and WHAT to say (NOT as ROTE [not as stiff formula] – but as REPRESENTATIONAL EXAMPLE

Matt 6:5-13 (Parallel to Luke 6)– after telling us how eternally worthless all our good acts are, if they are being done so other people can know about them – Jesus tells us:
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
6 “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
7 “And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
9 “In this manner, therefore, pray: our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Matt 6 is amazing in that we’re told be our Lord that the religious hypocrites like prayer because, when they’re seen praying, it makes them look religious. His response is NOT for His true disciples to NOT pray, but to PRAY PROPERLY, w the proper motives, w humility, and in such a manner that we are exalting and praising God, acknowledging and repenting of our sins, and then crying out for HIS will to be accomplished on earth – especially in OUR LIVES.

The FORMAT of “The Lord’s Prayer” is also a spectacular model for us when we pray:
1. Beginning w exaltation and praise.
2. Acknowledging our human condition of sinfulness, and addressing that by way of repentance.
3. Surrender to, and request for, His will.
4. Supplication and request.
5. Conclusive acknowledgement of His kingdom and power and glory.
AMEN.

(PRACTICE PARAPHRASE OF THAT MODEL?)

ONCE AGAIN – In a car going over a cliff: “YOW! HELP ME LORD!” is a perfect prayer model.
But there’s a purpose and an effect, if/when conditions allow, for us to GENERALLY be praying along the lines of the Lord’s prayer.

– Picture picking up a phone, not saying hi, not acknowledging the person, and immediately asking for things. How’s that sound?
– Picture coming before the Lord of heaven and earth and doing likewise.

IMPORTANT TO THE LORD’S PRAYER IS THIS: We are told to offer to God OUR wills, and replace OUR wills w what we receive by revelation, and by circumstance, in HIS will.

Ps 118 says it this way:
Ps 118:24-29
24 This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Save now, I pray, O LORD; O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity.
26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.
27 God is the LORD, and He has given us light; bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.
28 You are my God, and I will praise You; you are my God, I will exalt You.
29 Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

V27 – He has illuminated HIS PURPOSES and HIS PLAN to US. Our offering to Him is something live, that on its own does NOT want to remain on the altar. I firmly believe that is best modeled as OUR WILLS.

Back to Matthew 6 for a moment – that verse comes RIGHT AFTER – yep – Matt 5 – where our Lord tells us not ONE JOT or TITTLE of the LAW (nomos) will pass away until ALL THINGS are fulfilled – He is confirming the fullness of ALL SCRIPTURE – and THEN He continues in the next chapter – which was NOT a “NEXT CHAPTER” in His teaching that day, but instead a continuation of thought and word – and tells us HOW TO PRAY and WHAT TO PRAY throughout the entire age – so us PRAYING:
“Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” – is actually AN OPENING OF THE GATES (of Ps 24) so that the (plans of) the King of Glory might come in. I firmly believe that Prayer of the Saints is one of the gates through which the presence of God comes in. It’s a healthy mindset w which to enter into prayer – praying understanding the eternal impact of our prayer activity – our investment into the plans of God.

It’s precisely what the book of Revelation tells us in chapter 5:

Rev 5:8-10 – WHERE WE GET THE TERMINOLOGY: HARP & BOWL
8 Now when He (JESUS THE LAMB) had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.”

I also believe we would be more effective IN PRAYER and even IN LIFE, were we to spend less time NEGOTIATING W GOD and telling Him OUR WILLS, and instead seeking out HIS will and how to live that out.

GOING IN ANOTHER DIRECTION – The anointed, faith-based prayer for healing and also if necessary for forgiveness of sin – which sometimes needs to accompany healing request:
From the brother of Jesus – we read v16 earlier – but context is always good:
James 5:14-16
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,
20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Merriam Webster Dictionary tell us
PRAYER:
1a. An address (as a petition) to God (or a god) in word or in thought.
1B. An earnest request or wish.
2. The act or practice of praying.

Also – one who prays. A supplicant
ORIGIN: Medieval Latin (14th century) “Precarius” – obtained by entreaty

YES we also get the word PRECARIOUS from Precarius. It too is dependent upon the “will of another” – typical implied meaning being the “will” of an unknown condition….
(16th century)

EARLIER than the Greek language, though, is the HEBREW – TEPILA (prayer) and PALAL – intercede, make supplication, thought, judgment, intervene, mediate.

THE NEED TO BE PRAYING NOW: In case you are living under a rock, we are living in increasingly more and more perilous times. The issue is really not WHY we are living in these perilous times – we’ve covered that in depth in the Isaiah Apocalypse study, and several others that we’ve been through in the past years – and we’ll likely get into a LITTLE of that in this class, as well as subsequent classes.

I firmly believe we are living in increasingly more and more trying, and even perilous times according to the purposes and timing and intentions of our sovereign God, Who kindly told us the following:

Hag 2:6-9
6 “For thus says the LORD of hosts: “Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land;

So we see there is PROMISE that there will be a ONE TIME shaking work to draw men to the Desire of the Nations. That DESIRE would be the Lord Jesus, the soon and coming King.

Interestingly, prophetic biblical words like we just read in Haggai are NON-NEGOTIABLE. This is why silly doctrines like us SHIFTING THE BIBLICAL PLANS OF GOD by our prayers is goofy. Lots of what is coming into the church – often by good HUMAN INTENTION but IN BIBLICAL IGNORANCE in these days are doctrines that DEFY SCRIPTURE. They will not work, and in reality the preaching and teaching and praying into things that clearly contradict scriptural truth, are a waste of time. THEY ARE NOT EFFECTUAL PRAYERS, AND THEY AVAIL LITTLE IF NOTHING AT ALL.

Paul told us in Ephesians NOT to waste TIME but to redeem it.

BIBLICAL SUPPORT re non-negotiable plans of God:
Isa 14:24-27
24 The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, “Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, and as I have purposed, so it shall stand:
25 That I will break the Assyrian in My land, and on My mountains tread him underfoot. Then his yoke shall be removed from them, and his burden removed from their shoulders.
26 This is the purpose that is purposed against the whole earth, and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.
27 For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?”

This is why praying CONTRARY TO THE WILL OF GOD will accomplish nothing, btw – another reason why it’s great to have the word of God in you.

We want to pray according to scripture.

There are many examples of men and women of God coming before God w PETITIONS and PLEAS, and God relenting (turning back) from a plan He had earlier expressed for a particular person, or even a particular nation. THAT TRUTH remains.

But there are PROPHETIC REVELATIONS of the plans of God that will not be turned back, and this is why our KNOWLEDGE OF SCRIPTURE will increase our EFFECTIVENESS IN PRAYER.

ALIGNING OURSELVES W THE PLANS OF GOD is BI-DIRECTIONAL. God WANTS US to understand His plans – both via scripture and via revelation:
1. RECEIVING Knowledge of His will DURING PRAYER, and also
2. PROCLAIMING and DECLARING HIS WILL IN PRAYER.

I’m sure you’ve heard your brethren PRAY GOOFY. I’m sure you’ve probably PRAYED GOOFY. I have. Sometimes I marvel at God’s patience w us. In fact, always.

PRAYING ACCURATELY – according to the will of God and the revealed truths of scripture:
We will see later that King Solomon, when he dedicated the great temple to God and prayed and put forth a HUGE DOCTRINAL STAEMENT to God – ends up receiving back from God:
A. Not ONE WORD of doctrinal correction, but instead
B. A confirmation of the accuracy and truthfulness of his prayer by a powerful outpouring of the presence and glory of God – that was so intense nothing more could be done that day by the priests. It was a dog pile of priests in their priestly robes.

I believe that the PLACE OF ACCURATE PRAYER both IS and WILL CONTINUE TO BE a place of His manifold weighty CHABAD glory. Personally, I am a junkie for that (His presence), and that is ONE (of many) reasons I love to pray.

Reading Solomon’s amazing prayer and its result: the interruptive presence of God (I wasn’t going to go here NOW, but in this preparation – I’m on it):

This prayer is profound for many reasons:
It clearly reveals biblical doctrinal accuracy, and because of that, it is particularly effectual.
The result is one of the greatest manifestation-responses of God in all of scripture.
So it can teach us doctrinal truth, and it ought to encourage us to, as much as possible, come before God with an understanding of who God is and what He is doing, so that our prayers can be in alignment w His will.

2 Chr 6:14-42
14 and he (SOLOMON) said: “LORD God of Israel, there is no God in heaven or on earth like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
15 “You have kept what You promised Your servant David my father; You have both spoken with Your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day.
16 “Therefore, LORD God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, only if your sons take heed to their way, that they walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
17 “And now, O LORD God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David.
18 “But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!
19 “Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O LORD my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You:
20 “that Your eyes may be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your name, that You may hear the prayer which Your servant prays toward this place.
21 “And may You hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and when You hear, forgive.
22 “If anyone sins against his neighbor, and is forced to take an oath, and comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this temple,
23 “then hear from heaven, and act, and judge Your servants, bringing retribution on the wicked by bringing his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.
24 “Or if Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and return and confess Your name, and pray and make supplication before You in this temple,
25 “then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to them and their fathers.
26 “When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, when they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and turn from their sin because You afflict them,
27 “then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on Your land which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.
28 “When there is famine in the land, pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; when their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is;
29 “whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows his own burden and his own grief, and spreads out his hands to this temple:
30 “then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men),
31 “that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land which You gave to our fathers.
32 “Moreover, concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Israel, but who comes from a far country for the sake of Your great name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm, when they come and pray in this temple;
33 “then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, that all peoples of the earth may know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that this temple which I have built is called by Your name.
34 “When Your people go out to battle against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You toward this city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name,
35 “then hear from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
36 “When they sin against You (for there is no one who does not sin), and You become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and they take them captive to a land far or near;
37 “yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, and have committed wickedness’;
38 “and when they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have been carried captive, and pray toward their land which You gave to their fathers, the city which You have chosen, and toward the temple which I have built for Your name:
39 “then hear from heaven Your dwelling place their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive Your people who have sinned against You.
40 “Now, my God, I pray, let Your eyes be open and let Your ears be attentive to the prayer made in this place.
41 “Now therefore, arise, O LORD God, to Your resting place, you and the ark of Your strength. Let Your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let Your saints rejoice in goodness.
42 “O LORD God, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed; remember the mercies of Your servant David.”

ANOTHER POINT TO NOTE: Although Solomon’s prayer is LENGTHY and DOCTRINAL – this is NOT “TEACHING PRAYER” – first of all, no one is teaching God. Second, Solomon is proclaiming the truths of scripture, and the declaring the personality of God.

We want to be careful that we are not PLANNING to TEACH, or LECTURE our prayer partners, when we come to the place of prayer.
TEACH when it is time to teach. PRAY when it is time to pray.

GOD’S AFFIRMATION OF SOLOMON’S PRAYER:
2 Chr 7:1-2
1 When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
2 And the priests could not enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.

THAT is successful prayer that moved HEAVEN into EARTH.
Solomon prayed ACCURATELY, WITH PASSION, AND WITH ANOINTED PURPOSE.
THAT is what we are looking for!!!

(we’ll continue w this PRAYER-IGNITED EVENT, later – when God comes to Solomon and offers HIM, and US, the promise of IF MY PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME……come and pray, then God will do His work.)

BTW – it is theologically illogical and unwise for any saint to:
A. Understand the TRUTHS that Solomon prayed, and then
B. ignore them, and then
C. try to invoke the promises of God that were spoken IN RESPONSE to Solomon’s prayer.

THIS WHOLE BOOK WORKS TOGETHER.
Just like God Himself, the word of God is ECHAD. It is ONE, PRIMERO, UNIFIED, COMPLETE, INDIVISIBLE, SET APART, UNIQUE.

Slicing and dicing it for our purposes, whether IN PRAYER or IN LIFE, is a waste of time, and a huge jeopardy. Drives me nuts.

I believe that prayer of Solomon confirms the glory and the potency of scripturally accurate prayer. This is why we want the word of God in us, so that when we pray, that same word can flow from us, accurately. And our prayers will be more effective because we are praying along the lines of truth. And when we pray along those lines, I believe we are invited to “hold” God to His promises.

One thing I pray frequently, when I pray for our nation.
I KNOW IT IS A PROMISE OF SCRIPTURE, AND I KNOW I NOT “STRETCHING IT” FOR MY PURPOSES – SO I CAN PRAY IT W CONFIDENCE OF ITS ACCURACY.
Psalm 125:1-3
1 Those who trust in the Lord
Are like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.
3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
On the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.

It’s good to understand this Psalm, so it can be prayed effectively.
At first blush, it looks like it is ABOUT Mount Zion in Jerusalem – but it is not. The promise is way broader than that. It says THOSE – any people group, anywhere who trust in the Lord will be LIKE (equivalent to, seen by God as) Mount Zion – and that becomes unmovable.
Then verse assures that IN LIKE MANNER AS HOW GOD SURROUNDS JERUSALEM – He will surround that group who trust in Him – and that is a “forevermore” promise.
Then verse 3 – which is pregnant w promise, tells us that a covenant land can gain access to a place of rescue and deliverance because – if we’re reading the Word – we know God is CANA over His people, all around the world.

So we can wait w expectation for these things to occur, and for the fullness of these verses to happen:

LOOKING AT “THE WORD OF GOD NOT RETURNING VOID….” – often proclaimed, and then nothing happens. Let’s see how that is explained to us:

ISA 55
5 Surely you shall call a nation you do not know,
And nations who do not know you shall run to you,
Because of the Lord your God,
And the Holy One of Israel;
For He has glorified you.” (HHY)

6 Seek the Lord while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,

11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

THAT is HOW you want to be praying – in ALIGNMENT and OBEDIENCE and LED by the Spirit of God, so that your prayers can truly be prayed in the faith that you are speaking the word of God – and can believe Him for success in your prayers.

Here is a promise of God to Isaiah the prophet, that then extends forward forever to his spiritual lineage. THAT would be us, when we are fully His:
ISA 59
21 “As for Me,” says the Lord, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the Lord, “from this time and forevermore.”

THAT is what is available to us. THAT is in part why Peter told us “all things that pertain to life and godliness have ALREADY become available to us:
2 Peter 1:2-4
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

BACK TO HAGGAI (which we read earlier) and the SHAKING-WORK PROMISE: Further to the SAME prophetic word is another PROMISE TO BE FULFILLED: God will fill His temple with glory – as we also just saw in the Solomon-temple-dedication bunny trail. There appears to be a distinct relationship between PRAYER, THE PRESENCE OF GOD, AND THE FILLING WITH GLORY:

And the further revelation is that the “glory of the latter temple shall be greater than the former”.

Isaiah further tells us the FULFILLED TEMPLE is going to be a certain kind of place – accessible to Jew and Gentile alike – this is the temple the Lord
Is Preparing FOR US; and
Is Preparing US FOR:

Isa 56:1-7
1 Thus says the LORD: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, for My salvation is about to come, and My righteousness to be revealed.
2 Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it; who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”
3 Do not let the son of the foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD speak, saying, “The LORD has utterly separated me from His people”; nor let the eunuch say, “Here I am, a dry tree.”
4 For thus says the LORD: “To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, and choose what pleases Me, and hold fast My covenant,
5 Even to them I will give in My house and within My walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.

GOD, knowing that, is allowing our prayers to WORK when they are in alignment w Him and His word, and also NOT WORK when they are out of that alignment. HE IS TRAINING US TO ENGAGE IN PRAYER WARFARE, EFFECTIVELY.

PRAYER IN THESE TIMES – notes 6.28.16

DON’T PANIC!!! We most definitely WILL NOT be going through ALL these notes this evening. But they’re written, so you may as well have them. I have no clue where we will end this evening, but surely it is someplace, below.

PRAYER In These Times

As I prepare for a teaching class, my notes are typically “streaming” in that they are ongoing and then we see where we get to by the end of an evening. What is not covered LIKELY will be covered the following session. Or maybe not. I am trying to be sensitive to the Lord in His leading. So when I send out notes in advance, only know that those are my notes as of the time I am sending them out. You likely will get more notes than what will be covered in any session, or even in all sessions. And some of what gets spoken during a session might not be in my notes. Blessed are the flexible – that includes both you, and me.

NKJV – I LOVE LOVE LOVE the New King James Bible. Use whichever translation you like, though. Likely, 100% of my notes and teaching will be out of the NKJV.

DISCLAIMER: As always – I am teaching from a place of my own biblical understanding, and my own experiences in prayer. I am not close to perfect, but I want to stay to the One IS perfect. My own prayer life has struggles, challenges, distractions, all that and more. I have succeed in prayer, I have failed in my prayer calling at times. By His grace, I can say I have not missed a day of pray or being in the word, for 43 years. But some days, and some seasons, are better than others. I am LEARNING THIS AS I GO FORWARD. But PLEASE never think all that I am telling you in how I live my life. I wish it was so. I’m going hard after God – but I am never speaking or ministering from a place of “having arrived”.

LET’S PRAY. How appropriate.

OK – Welcome. We’re beginning a series that. Lord willing, be more than a teaching – although of course there’s nothing wrong w a “teaching”.

1. The VISION for these sessions is that we will become more awake and aware to the CALL TO PRAYER, The OPPORTUNITY and OPEN DOOR to PRAYER, and the more CRITICAL NEED for PRAYER – even now more than ever.

We also want to study and learn and gain faith from BIBLICAL MODELS and the BIBLICAL REVELATIONS of prayer.

We know we want our prayer time to be effective, and we also know that God wants our prayer time to be effective.

When you think about it, we came into relationship w our God through prayer. When someone is ready to get saved, to repent, to accept their Lord and Savior, we lead them INTO PRAYER.
It is a DIVINE HIGHWAY between TWO WORLDS – the spiritual world and the physical world.
It is the primary means by which WE COMMUNICATE W GOD, and how GOD COMMUNICATES W US.

Our God SPOKE the world into existence, and He continues to speak. HOW He speaks is His sovereign decision – He can use anything from a sunset or a numerical sequence, BUT most often, in the scriptures, we are shown a God who speaks intimately w man, one on one, during and through prayer.

Some scriptures re the END OF THIS AGE, and THE DECEPTIONS THAT WILL BE PROMINENT, and the SANCTIFICATION PROCESS (as it applies to FOOD – what we take into our bodies) – but also, I believe, these verses can rightfully be regarded as a confirmation of the PROPHETIC POWER of the WORD OF GOD and PRAYER:

1 Tim 4:1-7
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons (and now we see things that will try to come INTO THE FAITH),
2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,
3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;
5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6 If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.
7 But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.

So we see some key components of RELIGIOUS SPIRITS that will be present in the latter times” to try to (and in many instances SUCCEED in) deceiving the church – adding laws and rules, getting goofy, even restricting the saints from the fullness of their lives in God.

But Paul tells Timothy that THINGS (in this case: FOOD – which also represents our SURVIVAL and SUSTENANCE) are sanctified – redeemed and re-established for holy purpose – by TWO KEY KINGDOM COMPONENTS: The Word of God and Prayer.
Those two, together, aligned, and handled wisely, will cause us to be abundant and full and complete in our God, and in His plans. The Word of God AND Prayer are two components of faith we want to press into, together.

THE WORD OF GOD AND PRAYER – The scriptures are the very best place to:
Study PRAYER, to
Mature in our PRAYER; and to even be
Launched into the calling of PRAYER – I believe there’s such a thing.

Pastor Daniel wisely understands that all churches can’t do all things or be all things to a community. But one thing many of us are in agreement over – we are called to be a church that prays and prays.
(QUITE FRANKLY – I don’t how ANY church can be as effective as it ought to be if it does NOT pray – but we’ll plan to cover that as well during these weeks).

2. THE PLAN is that we move in this direction for a few weeks (3, most likely) and then go on to another teaching series – although since I am planning to be the guy doing the teaching series, I do not want to restrict or limit what the Lord might be doing in THESE sessions, so let’s agree to see what His timing is.

ONE THING I KNOW – the further I dig into the TOPIC of PRAYER – the more I personally uncover BIBLICALLY as well as EXPERIENTIALLY. So three weeks might not do it for us.

3. THE PROCESS – Typically, when I’m teaching THROUGH scripture, the teaching is progressive – one chapter, then another, then another – Like the Isaiah Apocalypse class, or the Ezekiel 33-39 class a few years back. It won’t be that way this time around. We’ll likely be all over the place, all the time. The GLUE is our topic: “The PRIORITY OF PRAYER IN THESE TIMES”. I don’t want to blame God for wild meanderings through Scripture, but I do plan to go where I think the Lord wants us to go in the topical CLASS. Speaking of which:

4. THE “CLASS”, and other SEMANTICS – Although I plan for this to be, in some ways, a workshop as much as ME teaching, I’m calling it a CLASS, simply for simplicity sake. It’s a good catch-all for me to speak, and to type. Also……

5. SOME BLURRY LINES – One might want to question “what is the difference between PRAYER and WORSHIP?”. That is a great question – and I’ll try to answer it simply, right here. I BELIEVE that PRAYER is an act of WORSHIP, and also that WORSHIP can be an act of PRAYER. I think it is a blurry line, that we can cross freely, back and forth. I don’t see the scriptures carving out territories-of-definition for either, so we won’t. PRAYER can include MUSIC and WORDS can be expressed in SONG. At the same time, WORSHIP can include WORDS THAT DON’T RHYME – that are functionally PRAYERS TO GOD.

We want to not get more religious about drawing DEFINITION-LINES than the scriptures do.
PERSONALLY – I am enjoying, and finding myself going deeper in GOD, by often praying WHILE I am reading the Word of God. I am not ALWAYS stopping ONE to begin THE NEXT. Things are usually different when we’re in PRAYER MEETINGS, rather than alone w God in prayer, but that is something else we’ll address.

GO W THE FLOW OF GOD in all this. It will bless you, and loosen you up to enjoy your time w Him.

6. ROCK PILE PRAYER – Mike Bickle, founder and head of the International House of Prayer – sometimes talks about “rock pile prayer” – where you feel you are simply swinging the heavy hammer, maybe not making a lot of progress, often in dry and tough place. I believe SOME of that ROCK PILE might be GOD HIMSELF, testing what you’re made out of, and how diligent and determined you are. I also believe that MUCH of that ROCK PILE is our own religiosity – and that a lot of the ENJOYMENT and JOY of being in His presence is taken from us when we set up formulas and parameters and rules for our prayer time that are not necessarily biblical.
THIS VERSE is actually revealed to us within the context of a resurrected state – but I believe the truth of the verse is for us, NOW:
Ps 16:11
11 You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

7. TEACHING PRAYER – One thing I want us to understand, early, is that there is little IF ANY “teaching prayer” in scripture. Often we will see great people of God RECITING back to God, and/or proclaiming aloud things that God has already promised in His word. THAT IS GOOD. But oftentimes we will find PEOPLE, IN PRAYER MEETINGS, thinking they are praying but actually utilizing the opportunity to try to TEACH to other people in the room. It ain’t prayer. So WE WANT TO BE AWARE OF THIS usually well-intended error, and avoid it, even during this class. It one of those “what prayer isn’t” kind of things.

THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO COVER:

What is prayer?
What is effectual (per James) prayer?
What isn’t prayer?
How to pray
When to pray
Why pray
Prayer with the understanding of our minds
Holy Spirit led prayer in a heavenly language – when and where and why
Praying according to the will of God
Why we have a hard time getting to prayer and staying in prayer
How God is motivating us and teaching us to prayer
How to be successful in prayer
Examples/Models of praying people and their prayer-effectiveness
Praying the Psalms – personalizing them
The Psalmist, King David, and his prayer model
What God’s immutable word tells us about prayer

I would like to be able to tell you that we will be covering the above topics point by point. But we will not. I am all over this list, but if/when we might get to any or some of these points, feel free to check them off your own do-list if you want.

WE WILL BE PRAYING IN THESE SESSIONS, AND MANY OF THOSE TIMES WE WILL BE DISCUSSING HOW WE ARE PRAYING – NOT to learn some “official church FORMAT” but to broaden our understanding and awareness as to how we can be more effective in our prayer.

WAY-EARLY TRUTH AND REVELATION FOR US:
Gen 3:8-10

8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
9 Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

Notably – it appears this was the IDYLLIC MODEL of God interacting w man – HIM coming to US, and WE being naked before Him, but being OK w that. In reality, THAT is how He wants to be w us now – not necessarily in THE PHYSICAL (that’s YOUR personal call) – and of course NEVER in the group prayer meetings – but the CONCEPT is that God sees and knows all.
And from THAT PLACE of understanding, it ought to change our perspective as to what we address w God, or what we might (vainly) attempt to hide from God.

CONFIRMED in the NT, and also brought to light so we can understand not only our accountability but also our access to God (THE PLACE OF PRAYER BEING ONE OF THE GREATEST ACCESS AVENUES) – the writer of Hebrews tells us this:

Heb 4:8-16
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.
10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly (W CONFIDENCE OF ACCEPTANCE) to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (often the time when our Adversary “Satan” would want to present you as disqualified from coming into the presence of God.

THE WARFARE of PRAYER and the WARFARE against PRAYER: As I mentioned early in a write-up email – during the weeks leading up to this class, I have found myself in some crazy and dark places, EVEN DURING my prayer time. I believe it was spiritual warfare specifically against this teaching, but also I believe the Lord allowed this to reveal my own vulnerability and weakness, as well as some of the places we will go through, as brethren. WE ARE IN A BATTLE. But we win. AND/BUT we need to be praying fervently to win. Prayer is a weapon of our warfare, and for us to NOT anticipate warfare resisting our prayer, would be naïve.

We’re promised this (we’ll read the entire verse 16, later):
James 5:16
16 ……The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

(THEN THE EXAMPLE)

This too is MODELED FOR US: things happen IN DIRECT RESPONSE TO PRAYER:
Isa 38:1-6
1 In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.'”
2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the LORD,
3 and said, “Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying,
5 “Go and say to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years.
6 “I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.”‘

This is MODELED FOR US by Jesus – His anointing and success did not get in the way of His prayer life:

Luke 5:15-16

15 However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities.
16 So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed
.

MORE OF THE JESUS-MODEL (His Organizational Instructions came for Dad. His understanding of what to do and who to call came from Dad):
Luke 6:12-20
12 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
THE CALLING OF THE FIRST TWELVE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF OUR FAITH:
13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:
14 Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew;
15 Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot;
16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor.
HIS HEALING ANOINTING OVER THE SPIRITUAL AND THE DEMONIC:
17 And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases,
18 as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed.
HIS EVANGELISM SUCCESS:
19 And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.
HIS TEACHING AND PREACHING ANOINTING:
20 Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said: “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

This same PRIORITIZATION OF PRAYER was modeled by the church fathers, resulting in the successful foundation of the church:

Acts 6:1-7
1 Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a murmuring against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution.
2 Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.
3 “Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;

This is TOLD TO US – by Paul:
1 Cor 11:1
1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

PAUL AGAIN:
1Thes 5:16-22
16 Rejoice always,
17 pray without ceasing,
18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
20 Do not despise prophecies.
21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.
22 Abstain from every form of evil.

PAUL AGAIN
Eph 6:17-19
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

A GLORIOUS TRUTH: IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO COUNTERFEIT having spent time w God
Acts 4:10-14
10 “let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.
11 “This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’
12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.
14 And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

JEALOUS/ZEALOUS (qana) God is jealous for those who are His. He MARKS THEM (like Moses, when he came down from the mountain and his face shown.
There is no “pretending” or “making believe” that someone has spent time w Jesus. It in fact ends up looking silly, religious or worse:

FIRST – AND EXAMPLE OF THE “WORSE” – getting into the deep issues of the Kingdom, without being in the deep place of relationship w God:
18 And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds.

Matt 23:5-8
– Jesus – speaking of the hypocrisy of the Pharisees – who so wanted to look the part of religious and pious men:
5 “But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.
6 “They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
7 “greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’
8 “But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren.

KEY REVELATION RE PRAYER – BY OUR LORD – and Looking at how NOT to pray, and then HOW to pray and WHAT to say (NOT as ROTE [stiff formula] – but as EXAMPLE)

Matt 6:5-3 (Parallel to Luke 6)– after telling us how eternally worthless all our good acts are, if they are being done so other people can know about them – Jesus tells us:

Of course, in a car going over a cliff: “YOW! HELP ME LORD!” is a perfect prayer model.
But I do believe there’s a purpose and an effect, if/when conditions allow, for us to GENERALLY be praying along the lines of the Lord’s prayer.

Our offering to Him is something live, that does NOT want to remain on the altar.

“Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” – is actually THE GATES (of Ps 24) opening up so that the (plans of) the King of Glory might come in. I firmly believe that Prayer of the Saints is one of the gates through which the presence of God comes in.

OUR PRAYERS are the GATEWAY for the PLANS OF GOD to be accomplished on earth.

A word from the brother of Jesus – we read v16 earlier – but context is always good:
James 5:14-20
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
THE EXAMPLE:
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,
20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

James 5 speak to all sorts of things – from brethren falling away and our humble but proactive restoration of those fallen-away brethren, to a relationship, SOMETIMES, to sin and sickness, to the promise the FERVENCY is our prayer will accomplish supernatural results.

Merriam Webster Dictionary tells us
PRAYER:

Hag 2:6-9
6 “For thus says the LORD of hosts: “Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land;

And Paul told us in Ephesians NOT to waste TIME but to redeem it.

THIS IS WHY it if foolhardy to think: “I’M A WORSHIPPER, I DON’T NEED TO KNOW MY BIBLE”, or “I’M A TEACHER, I DON’T NEED TO GET INVOLVED IN HARP AND BOWL WORSHIP”.
We need THE WHOLE ENCHILADA. We need all of God and all of His purposes.

ALIGNING OURSELVES W THE PLANS OF GOD is something BI-DIRECTIONAL. God WANTS US to understand His plans – both via scripture and via revelation – oftentimes revealed IN THE PLACE of PRAYER – so we want to come into that fullness.

I’m sure you’ve heard your brethren PRAY GOOFY. I’m sure you’ve probably PRAYED GOOFY. Sometimes I marvel at God’s patience w us. In fact, always.

God is so amazing that in Isa 1 – even AFTER He has pronounced His people Israel GUILTY in a courtroom-like judgment, He tells them:
“COME LET US REASON TOGETHER….”
That is amazing grace. After the clear pronouncement of guilt, gracious God is still offering dialogue to His people. Prayer wants to be a DIALOGUE, not simply a WISH LIST or a NEEDS LIST.

OK – reading Solomon’s amazing prayer and it’s result: the interruptive presence of God (I wasn’t going to go here NOW, but in this preparation – I’m on it):

28 “When there is famine in the land, pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; when their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is;
29 “whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows his own burden and his own grief, and spreads out his hands to this temple:
30 “then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men),
31 “that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land which You gave to our fathers.
32 “Moreover, concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Israel, but who comes from a far country for the sake of Your great name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm, when they come and pray in this temple;
36 “When they sin against You (for there is no one who does not sin), and You become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and they take them captive to a land far or near;
37 “yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong, and have committed wickedness’;

Although this pray is LENGTHY and DOCTRINAL – this is NOT “TEACHING PRAYER” – first of all, no one is teaching God. Second, Solomon is proclaiming the truths of scripture, and the personality of God.
We want to be careful that we are not PLANNING to TEACH, or LECTURE our prayer partners, when we come to the place of prayer.
TEACH when it is time to teach. PRAY when it is time to pray.

2 Chr 7:1-3
1 When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
2 And the priests could not enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.
3 When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the LORD, saying: “For He is good, for His mercy endures forever.”

THAT is a successful prayer that moved HEAVEN into EARTH.

BTW – it is theologically illogical and unwise to understand the TRUTHS that Solomon prayed, and then ignore them, but then try to invoke the promises of God that were spoken IN RESPONSE to Solomon’s prayer.

WOW – we could spend a month is the above verses – discussing their eternal truth – their modeling of beginning prayer w praise, the honest address of sin issues, the warfare, the invitation of God to tabernacle, and more. Yea God!

THAT IS WHY we want the Word in us, and understood by us – so that our prayers can be most effective.

Isaiah further tells us the FULFILLED TEMPLE is going to be a certain kind of place – accessible to Jew and Gentile alike – this is the temple the Lord is preparing us for right now:

What we are seeing in these and many other prophetic verses is an IMAGE OF THE PURPOSES OF GOD at the END of THIS AGE, and then extending into the NEXT AGE.

Furthermore, and critical for our understanding of the PRIORITY OF PRAYER is this amazing fact that ought to ignite our understanding of
our WORTH,
our POSITION,
our CALLING and
our PARTNERSHIP into the CREATION PLAN OF GOD – first remembering that mankind screwed things up, royally, for all of creation, when Adam and Eve opened the door to sin, through disobedience, in the Garden, and then understanding and recognizing the glorious restoration and redemption work of the cross, so that promises like we just read can be obtained, as we walk in understanding and holiness, humility and prayer.

CRITICAL NT REVELATION as to God’s prophetic plan – that WILL SURELY come to pass.
This is His plan for His people:
Rom 8:14-28
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
17 and if children, then heirs– heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
(BUT HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS RE THE EFFECTIVENESS AND POTENTIAL OF HOLY-SPIRIT INFUSED PRAYER: We don’t really need to know all the things we need to be praying for, nor HOW to pray for some of them – because the Holy Spirit, IN US, is in complete harmony with the purposes of heaven, and HE KNOWS how we ought to be praying.

Back to v22: For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

The CREATION itself, groaning under the burden of a seasonal spiritual climate, is alive and infused with an understanding that SOMETHING has to change.
That change will not be a work OF Man.
And yet God, in calling us into a place of partnership with Him, has ordained it to be a work BY Man, praying as he ought to pray, led by the Spirit, OBEDIENTLY but also CREATIVELY speaking into being the plans and purposes of God.

LIKELY WEEK TWO will be begin by looking into the “controversial” scriptures of 1 Cor 12-14 regarding praying in tongues, speaking in tongues, the public prophetic purpose of tongues, the potential of praying in tongues, and the religious warfare and rantings AGAINST praying tongues.

FOR NOW, SUFFICE TO SAY – Jesus put this priority on being filled with the Holy Spirit, and then Acts 2 HAPPENED:
ACTS 2
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;
5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

AND THEN:
Acts 2
1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

These were fully saved saints, and Jesus told them to do nothing until they were baptized by a baptism of fire, after which time they’d be empowered for the Kingdom work. And when that occurred, it was marked by the outpouring of the gift and sign of tongues.

Prayer is the highest calling of God for a man to walk in. He is looking for those who will “worship Him in spirit and in truth”.

Dictionary Definition, again
WORSHIP: The act of showing respect and love for a God especially by PRAYING WITH OTHER PEOPLE who believe in the same god; the act of worshipping God or a god.

That WORSHIP includes the active component of prayer. Worship and Prayer are inseparable.

I believe it is one reason why sometimes worship fails to attain its full potential – because worshippers (onstage and off) may not be coming into the place of worship, prayed up.

THE RESISTANCE TO OUR PRAYERS, and our PRAYING:
So what we need to realize is that Satan (Hebrew: “Adversary”) rages against prayer and worship. It is his worst nightmare – a praying, worshipping saint.

Look what was promised to our Lord, in a lie, by Satan:

Luke 4:6-8
6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.
7 “Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”
8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'”

Besides that promise being a lie, it was also in complete opposition to the purpose of mankind.
We were meant for worship and prayer – only to God.
8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'”

This is why WE, as redeemed creatures, consistently encounter so much opposition to prayer – opposition to wanting to pray, to engage in prayer, to remain in prayer, to stay awake in prayer, and to surrender in prayer. These are all topics we’ll be INVESTIGATING, and PRACTICING, during the next few weeks.

Whosoever Will

The following notes were first embarked upon in response to a request by a lovely woman of God who asked for my read on some verses in Romans 8. Beyond that initial response, I sensed the Lord wanting me to go a little further into the topic of Free Will, Pre-Destination, and related issues. These notes morphed, over a three week period, into a Sunday AM message.

WHOSOEVER WILL;
OR
The Volunteer Army Of God;
OR
Our Free Will to love God and Participate in His plans;
Or
Scriptural contradiction to the insanity and jeopardy of thinking you are predestined to the point that no matter what choices you make you will fulfill your destiny call;
OR
Choice wisely, grasshopper

(Good morning Sandi…) This began w a request from a friend to give my take on these verses:

Romans 8:28-30
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

Verse 28 is fairly obvious, yet worthy of note, as it establishes the launching pad for Paul to write the following verses. We’re told we know that when we are in the will of God (being called according to His purposes) all things will indeed work together for good. Verses 29 and 30 then flesh-out the Paul’s theology of having been so called. It is those two verses that seem to raise the hackles of conversation,

Personally I’ve come to realize the safest way to interpret all scripture is to confirm they do not war against other scriptures AND ESPECIALLY don’t war against the entire CONTEXT of scripture. The Book surely and most effectively testifies of itself. It certainly works for the challenging and likewise controversial end-times subject, causing things to come to clarity as we can figure out not only WHAT something means, but also what it DOES NOT mean.

The verses of discussion do not PRIMARILY center around eschatology, but instead, around salvation, pre-destination, and free will. BUT the theology they espouse:
A. Can easily impact a Christian’s attitude towards their own life decisions in ALL AGES,
B. Will impact last-days evangelism and our outlook towards the lost in those trying times.
We’ll address that later.
Us spending a message looking into this is not simply theological gymnastics.

These verses bring up, and to some believers appear to support, a theological point of view was first officially brought forth by John Calvin (in the 1600’s) who believed men were saved by God who had extended His good mercy to a select number of folks whom He (the Lord) had predetermined for salvation.

(CALVIN SLIDE)

The necessarily logical extension of that theory would need be that most if not even all other people were therefore NOT selected by God (for salvation) and therefore “pre-doomed” to destruction. Calvin caused a great stir.

Wikipedia tells us Calvin’s hand-picked successor Theodore Beza then taught this theology to Jacobus Arminius,…

(ARMINIUS SLIDE)

….but Arminius threw a good-sized wrench in the works, and after studying the scriptures, actively disagreed with that teaching and in response wrote an opinion statement that salvation was based upon belief through faith, via grace that was extended to all. Yea, Jake.

I don’t intend this to become a deep theological teaching this AM, but suffice to say that Arminius also appears to have issues in that he accepted Calvin’s “divine election” – God selecting some but not others for salvation, but then states that God only moves upon those whom He knew in advance would exercise choice. THAT statement by Arminius seems a little weird.

Arminius’ proponents were/are referred to as Remonstrants, a word that hasn’t caught on big-time (to describe opponents to Calvinism). Arminius’ teachings were presented as being:
A. An opposing position to Calvin; and also
B. As NOT being something NEW (post Calvinism) but rather as being a RETURN to original scripture teaching.

Personally, I don’t wear a “Remonstrant” t-shirt.
Besides wanting the lost world to see a FUNDAMENTALLY unified gospel message, MORE importantly, what was written +/- 1600 years BEFORE either Calvin or Arminius were twinkles in their parents’ eyes (that would be the New Testament writings of the disciples) does NOT require us choosing the “Arminius Team” or “Calvin Team”.

HERE’S our Team Leader – the One and Only w Perfect Theology: (JESUS SLIDE)

I believe the bible sets out clearly that we are saved by grace through faith, and that the same grace is extended by God to ALL people. There I go, remonstrating just a little – although the deeper you study Arminius, the more you ought to be inclined to go back to the scriptures, and to your place of prayer, and to what was spoken by Jesus and written by the NT authors. The book testifies of itself better than the often distracting theological theories of even well intended men.

Rabbis have been blowing it for thousands of years – even before Jesus’ appearance. We have to come back to scripture. IT WILL KEEP US ON TRACK as the world shakes more and more.

This AM is about OUR CHOICES, and “VOLUNTEER CHRISTIANITY”, about PREDESTINATION and EVERY MAN’S FREE WILL.

QUES FOR US: WHY GET INVOLVED IN THIS THEOLOGICAL DISCUSSION AT ALL?
Some might wonder: “why bother looking into this? As long as I’m praying and reading my bible and trying my best to live holy and love God, I’ll be OK.”
That’s correct.
The issue goes deeper though.
The jeopardy of glancing over doctrinal issues is that weak or unsupported doctrine can open doors to bad living, bad thinking, faulty conclusions.
FOR OUR PARTICULAR APPLICATION, we would do well to understand the time we live in.

I am of the mind this age is coming to a rapid close.
I further believe that the promise/warning of Haggai 2 – God shaking heaven and earth, the sea and dry land, as yet to occur but will occur in its fullness, and is even now beginning.

Haggai 2:6-7
6 “For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land;
7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts.

Verse 6 tells us it will be “a little while” (in eternal-God’s plan)
It will be once.
It will involve a shaking work everywhere in all realms
The intent and purpose, and therefore the result of the shaking work will be to draw people out of every tribe and tongue to the Savior of the world, Who will be revealed and exalted as the One and Only true Desire of all mankind.

I BELIEVE THE JEOPARDY OF STRICT CALVINISM AND PREDESTINATION is that WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND AND BELIEVE that our God wants ALL people saved.
The shaking work IS PURPOSED to get folks praying and repenting.

US THINKING “maybe some/most people simply were never intended to be saved” can undermine and distort much. It is in fact AN ERROR OF OMISSION.
A. We’d write off fallen brethren as never having been saved in the first place (and therefore not worthy of a restoration effort – undermining Daniel 11:35 telling us some WILL fall, to be refined). ANOTHER JEOPARDY is
B. We’d be tempted, in our own challenging circumstances (which WILL come in the shaking) to “MANUEVER AROUND” many less-than-desirable people, writing them off as props in our own little theo-drama, and miss them getting rescued from destruction.

To the contrary Paul tells us he warned every man (Colossians). This is our CHARGE BY GOD. Preach the gospel to every man.

THAT’S WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT.

CRITICAL: Our God is not willing any should perish.
2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Luke 12:32
32 “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Central to the “Little Flock” prophecy of salvation, is NOT that a FEW are PICKED BY GOD, but that FEW CHOOSE TO RESPOND to the CALL to ALL MEN.

From the lips of our Lord – THOSE FAMOUS VERSES:
John 3:16-19
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
THE JESUS-ANSWER AS TO WHY MOST DON’T GET SAVED – NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SELECTED IN A GOD-LOTTERY – it’s about what people choose to love.
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men (MOST MEN) loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Paul in Acts (we’ll read shortly) said God calls “All men everywhere”

Calvinists use this verse to argue “SOME”, but NOT ALL:
Matthew 26:28
28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
MANY – GREEK: Polys – much, plenteous, largely, abundant…
The word does exclude the potential interpretation that there is sufficient blood atonement for ANY and ALL who would respond to the call of God.

Another FLAG VERSE FOR PREDESTINATION IS THIS:
Ephesians 1:5
5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

THE PLAN OF SALVATION WAS PREDESTINED, as also was the PLAN FOR THE CRUCIFIXION.
Just like Jesus MADE THE DECISION IN THE GARDEN to fulfill His destiny, every soul is invited to respond to God and fulfill his or her own destiny, by MAKING GOOD DECISIONS OF OUR OWN FREE WILL. You CHOOSE to pray, to study, to flee sin, to repent.

We know “whosoever will” is invited to drink of the waters of life freely.
Revelation 22:17
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Rev 22:17 confirms the Bride-Church being IN AGREEMENT W THE SPIRIT, inviting “whoever desires” (whoever desires). It does not leave room for the bride-church to present a second opinion re: who gets selected for salvation.

We’d therefore do well to question the Bride-Church espousing a Calvinistic opinion that “whoever” (wills) is more accurately understood as “whoever has won the salvation lottery” and lucked out to have been selected by God for the salvation process.

Another jeopardy of predestination is that supporters contend if someone APPEARED to have been saved and then actively embarks upon a life of destruction – that they were NEVER saved. That point of view is required for their doctrine to stand. But here’s scripture w a better explanation of being born INTO a calling God, and still blowing it.
Lamentations 1:8-9
8 Jerusalem has sinned gravely,
Therefore she has become vile…..
9 Her uncleanness is in her skirts;
She did not consider her destiny;

Jerusalem’s predetermined destiny had been for success. Their willful disobedience changed things.

Hosea tells us when God WOULD HAVE healed Israel, He instead observed their sin (7:1).

Hosea 7:1A
1 “When I would have healed Israel,
Then the iniquity of Ephraim was uncovered, ...

This models that the free will of all mankind (btw biblically confirmed as applying to both saved and unsaved) will impact the outcome of their relationships w God, including whether one gets saved, stay saved, and/or finishes well.

When Protestantism was birthed during the Reformation many struggled to assure redemption apart from the sacraments of Catholicism. LOTS OF STUFF came out of that need-to-know-you’re-saved dilemma. Still, radical change do not justify pendulum-swinging error.

The question, FOR US, arises as to why folks NOW might embrace Calvinistic pre-destination belief. Some get saved and are taught Funky stuff and don’t go deep enough to question what they are taught. QUESTION IT ALL. Study the scriptures yourself. Question what I tell you. This is why I’m convicted to use so much scripture when I teach. I fear God too much to teach “the gospel according to me”.

Two people I spoke to recently spoke (of their radical salvation experiences) were first met and taught by Calvinists. And at first blush, it made sense to them.

When someone encounters Christ, especially by way of a profound shift of events and circumstances, that dramatic work of the Holy Spirit is clearly a directed work ON ONE PERSON. It is specific, focused, glorious. Accurately, that person feels (and in fact, is) chosen by God for salvation. But here’s the BIG RUB (presented as a question to align that RUB w scripture): can’t our gracious God, NOT WILLING THAT ANY PERISH, visit different people (and in fact all people), at different times and perhaps even many times in their individual lives, to offer them that repentance opportunity? Who would dare say He does not in fact do that? I think He does exactly that. HERE’S the BIG RUB Answer:

Acts 17:26,27 & 30 (NOTE THE INCLUSIONARY WORDING)
26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,
27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,

This is CRITICAL FOR US IN THESE DAYS, w the Lord having us here on earth during troubling times, times HE is purposely “troubling” to motivate all men everywhere to repent.
SEE THE CRITICAL NATURE OF UNDERSTANDING THIS WELL?

Peter understood God’s often-seasonal moving upon the lives of the people around us, admonishing us to maintain a consistent testimony, since we want that testimony to be glorious, AT WHAT TIME IN THE LIVES OF THOSE PEOPLE?

1 Peter 2:11-12
11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day (or DAYS, PERIOD – “HEMERO”) of visitation.

EXAMPLES OF FOLKS CHOOSING TO REJECT THEIR VISITATION CALL
Mark 10:17, 22
17 Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”
(JESUS RECITES THE COMMANDMENTS TO HIM – THEN ADDRESSES the man’s particular sin: Materialism)
22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Ex: A WHOLE GROUP REJECTING GOD’S PRE-DESTINED WILL FOR THEM TO RECOGNIZE AND ACCEPT THEIR MESSIAH:
One might easily consider the Pharisees as the consummate “bad guys” doomed to destruction. Predestined? They were proud, overly-religious and functioned as the anti-Christ component in the crucifixion drama. BUT WHAT DOES THIS SAY?
Luke 7:30
30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

I believe Romans 8 is first telling us God foreknew/foreknows everyone NEEDS SALVATION and opened a door to everyone, but (and we know this by our own experiences) obviously not all choose to walk through that door. I have no issue w understanding there are particular people w particular callings:

Like everyone else, JEREMIAH and PHARAOH each were born w unique destinies – Jeremiah (succeeded in his obedience) functioning as a prophet of God, and Pharaoh, fulfilled the destiny to be lifted up as leader at that time – but FAILED to respond to dramatic signs and judgments on himself and his land, and was destroyed by stubbornness and pride. He had hardened his OWN heart so many times, eventually God hardened it, to his destruction.

Would God EVENTUALLY harden someone’s heart and destroy them? (THIS TOUCHES ON OTHER POPULAR doctrines that God is happy with all people and simply is all about LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Proverbs 29:1
1 He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck,
Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

The whole bible is not about men chasing God, but God chasing all men. THE INVITATION TO EACH OF US is to CHOOSE TO CHASE GOD.

From that perspective I see Romans 8 confirming God going after all (granted often w varying degrees of intensity and varying times in people’s lives (days of visitation).

I see God promising good outcome to all who continue to willingly walk in relationship (into their purposeful calling), and I see a call to understanding that the ball is in our court as to whether we finish well. Peter (2Peter 1:10) laid out a progression of growth and said IF you do these things you won’t stumble. Peter knew about stumbling, and knew it was avoidable, in the fullness of God.

Jude confirms this as well – “He who is able to keep you from stumbling”. The jeopardy of a “predestined” theology, when one stumbles and sins, has us warring against those truths and implying that it was God’s purpose for us to sin.

ANOTHER THEOLOGICAL VICTIM OF CALVINISTIC EXEMPLIFICATION, EXPLAINED…
Esau was declared, by Malachi (1:3) and then repeated in Romans (9:13) as being hated by God, but that was long after Esau’s free-will decision to sell out his destiny for the hunger of the now. Nowhere does scripture say Esau was born “pre-hated”.

LOOK HOW THE CHOICE TO SIN IMPACTED ISRAEL:
Isaiah tells us that God’s plan for Israel HAD BEEN to bless them, clearly pointing to a change of action, on our Lord’s part, because of their sin during that season:
Isaiah 48:18-19
18 Oh, that you had heeded My commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river,
And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
19 Your descendants also would have been like the sand,
And the offspring of your body like the grains of sand;
His name would not have been cut off
Nor destroyed from before Me.”

Look at our Lord’s own words re choice:
John 3:18-20
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

Jesus told us (above) that the world was already condemned, including all who would continue to choose darkness over light.

THIS “CHOOSE-WHICH-GROUP THEME IS IN BOTH TESTAMENTS.
And in fact, consider the great mercies of God in, although Israel was already found guilty (sins already declared as having been evident) He continued to offer to reason with His people):
Isaiah 1:18-20
18 “ Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.
19 If you are willing and obedient,
You shall eat the good of the land;
20 But if you refuse and rebel,
You shall be devoured by the sword”;
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

I personally chose darkness for years. I know NOW what group I had been in. then grace touched me and I made a good choice. I am charged by God TO CONTINUE MAKING GOOD CHOICES. AS ARE YOU.

There are PREDESTINED GROUPS – NOT PREDESTINED PEOPLE
By much grace we transfer out of one terrible group into the other, great group.
Both groups are predestined for their destiny. Whether you remain in a group is up to the person. And it is without question God’s great grace that allows us to GET saved, and provides us with strength and even desire to STAY saved. STILL, we always have FREE CHOICE. And God grants His grace, often at different times and through different circumstances. There’s His sovereignty.

For us to designate masses of people to predestined destruction is ONLY SORT OF accurate, WITH THE MOST EXTREME CAVEAT that if/when ANY person prays and repents, repent, everything can change: they are transformed from one group to the group that has been elected by God to be THE GROUP. It’s an open group. Whosoever wills.

Further, it would seem theologically contradictory for a God who told us to (a) preach the gospel to every creature, but also to (b) redeem the time, if it was already predetermined we’d waste precious time preaching to the masses who were predestined to damnation.

From a personal, life-journey outlook, I further contend there are no “life props”, no people put on earth simply to function as a “cast of millions” in our own religious journeys. That sidebar-component of Calvinism, to try to explain away the purpose for a person “predestined to destruction” has to be viewed as self-centered and selfish – it’s an outlook of lucky exclusivity. To the contrary: I see scripture telling us each and every person is a soul for whom Christ died, and He wants them all. OUR CALL IS TO WIN AS WINNING AS POSSIBLE.

From that clearly substantiated biblical text position, we can conclude Romans 8 assuring us that any person choosing by their free will to serve and live for and die for the One who died for all, can and will succeed.

This biblical perspective coexists perfectly with an end times lens-of-understanding that the children of God will indeed remain on earth, as the light of the world, to point the shaking lost to their Savior. The intent of the troubling is to draw all nations to the Desire of the nations. (Haggai 2 – which we read earlier).

We have a huge say in the success and failure of our own souls.
We have a huge say in the salvation of the souls around us.
This is a love story.
Love requires complete free-will.

There is a HUGE WAR within that love story.
And we are told by the psalmist that in the days of our Lord’s power, when He returns, His people will be VOLUNTEERS.

Psalms 110:3, 5, 6
3 Your people shall be volunteers
In the day of Your power;

THAT POWER DAY is the season at the END OF THIS AGE
5 The Lord is at Your right hand;
He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath.
6 He shall judge among the nations,
He shall fill the places with dead bodies,
He shall execute the heads of many countries.

AGAIN:
Whosoever will, let him come drink of the waters of life freely.

I believe there is an underlying JEOPARDY and VULNERABILITY to embracing a doctrine that tells us MOST (even SOME) people are predestined to destruction.
And there’s JEOPARDY and VULNERABILITY to embracing a doctrine that tells us we have NO CHOICES to make in the outcome of our salvation or the fulfillment of our destiny.

GOD WANTS VOLUNTEERS LOVERS to stand beside Him in these great days, consistently MAKING DECISIONS OF OUR FREE WILL to live a life conducive to holiness, and holy intimacy with a God who made us to love Him, willingly.

“I WILL serve God. I WILL to serve God. Lord, I surrender MY WILL to You”

Luke 11:2
“When you pray say: Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (MOST PERSONAL: “Your will be done in me, Lord”)

THE JESUS MODEL – Our Lord, in the garden of Gethsemane, revealing His personal will for survival and pain avoidance, and then His response to grace, accepting the fact that the will of God was His choice, and His destiny. Thank You Jesus. It was Your personal decision to not succumb to Your own free will that provides us this opportunity to come to salvation, :
Matthew 26:42
42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”

Ps 118 – “bind the sacrifice with cord to the horns of the altar”

THAT is the crux of the issue. We’re invited and exhorted, each day, to bind our wills to the altar, recognizing (without condemnation) that each and every day our free-will wants to escape that altar of sacrifice. So we bind it again. That is both the holy tension, and the glory of free will, and provides us with something to offer God each day. The enormity of this daily (hour by hour) act of the saints infuriates and testifies against our Adversary, and he wars against the concept of free will. Fortunately, the scriptures are clear.

All scriptures NKJV – I love that translation….

Isaiah Apocalypse – Session 8 notes

OK – we’re here. The last week of this series. We’ve been through some heavy scriptures, not only for historical purposes (to see how God dealt with nations, and with His covenant people IN THE PAST) – but also so that we might understand how God deals with nations and with His covenant people ALWAYS – and how He will deal with all people as the end of this age comes upon us.

The glorious work of Calvary provided, and continues to provide, an ESCAPE ROUTE from the wrath to come to WHOSOEVER WILL.

Meanwhile we are becoming more and more aware of the state of the world, and more understanding, both by biblical text as well as by global conditions, that most people have not, and will not, turn to God. So we find ourselves, as believers, functionally SWIMMING UPSTREAM in a flow of situations that scriptures point to increasing in frequency and intensity:
1. As darkness continues to cover the land, and people become more and more resistant to light, and many in fact will actively rage against the light of the gospel; AND ALSO
2. As our kind and merciful God, not wanting any to perish, does what He said He would do: Shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land – the intent being to draw all men to the Desire of the Nations (Haggai)

Isaiah 24-34 lays out a prophetic scenario that:
A. IN PART was to be fulfilled during the upcoming siege and destruction of Jerusalem and the rest of the Southern Kingdom – with the people being violently removed to Babylon for a 70 year captivity – and it was non-negotiable; AND

B. IN PART was to be fulfilled during numerous subsequent judgments by God on His covenant people, throughout the age, as they continued to disobey Him and His commandments and resist His more gentle callings to repentance, the greatest act of disobedience and offense being the rejection of their promised Messiah; AND

C. IN FULFILLMENT – is to be fully filled, including all of the missing HHY components prior to, during, and then subsequent to, the return and appearance of Messiah, in Jerusalem, to deliver His covenant people, both Jew and Gentile.

REGARDING THE SUFFERING OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE NT – THE JEWISH RULERS SET THE TONE AND PUT IT THIS WAY:
Matt 27
24 When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.”
25 And all t
he people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.

AND PETER PUT IT THIS WAY:
Acts 3:13-23
13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go.
14 But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
15 and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

(Then a dialogue of mercy – declaring they did it ignorantly and in unbelief…..AND THEN THE CULMINATING VERSES that are soberly awaiting fulfillment – to the support of our position as to what still needs to occur….
…..22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you.
23 And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people. ’

(major edit here over earlier notes) That NT verse, ALONE, ought to defuse the credibility of doctrines that would simply point to, a post-Calvary “grace grace grace” sloppy and unjustified outpouring of love and acceptance – WHILE THE MAJORITY OF THE WORLD REMAINS UNREPENTANT AND DEFIANT – and in fact becomes increasingly more sinful, that sinfulness to eventually escalate to a corporate as well as personal level deserving the judgments predicted in scripture.

Additionally, this kind of understanding of the spiritual climate that will be prevalent prior to our Lord’s return, ought to help us NOT envision ourselves as simply preparing the “wedding party” – which some popular end-of-age doctrines put forth. Most of the world continues to lie in darkness, and will continue to rage against the light. The word of God tells us that. And that word been accurate so far….

It’s important for us to understand the MAGNITUDE OF ACCOUNTABILITY that is incurred in purposely denying OR disobeying the edicts of heaven – to the Jew first and then the Gentile (in fact the writer of Hebrews tells us READERS OF HEBREWS that the bar of accountability has not been LOWERED in the NT dispensation, but rather RAISED):

Hebrews 12:25-29
25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,
26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “ Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.”
27 Now this, “ Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
29 For our God is a consuming fire.

FURTHER TO THE PERTINENCE OF ISAIAH 24-34 is its pointing to definite END-OF-AGE events, because things will indeed get wrapped up at that time, and as Jesus said in Matthew 5- “every jot and tittle of the law…” (“nomos” – used for all the prophetic writings of the OT, including the prophetic writings of the major prophets) will all be fulfilled, down to the last “jot and tittle” – the smallest punctuation mark.

I spoke several months ago about the “specificity of scripture” (its EXACTNESS). We would do well to understand and appreciate that.
EXAMPLE 1:
JESUS SAID (referring to I AM as opposed to I WAS – a confirmation of TENSE):
Matthew 22:29-32
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “ You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.
31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,
32 “ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob ’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

EXAMPLE 2:

And looking at Paul’s understanding of the EXACTNESS OF SCRIPTURE, he validates a point by pointing out the SINGULAR as opposed to the PLURAL:
Galatians 3:16
16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “ And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “ And to your Seed,” who is Christ.

It is this kind of understanding and appreciation that will usher us into the camp of those who “tremble at the word” – and soberly look to the scriptures for our hope and our confidence and our understanding as to what still has to occur.

So the prophetic scenario laid out by Isaiah:
Applied to the faithful of his time;
Applies to NT saints;
Applies to ALL TRYING TIMES;
ESPECIALLY APPLIES TO THE FINAL TRYING TIMES, about which we have taken many anointed bunny trails – into Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Zephaniah, Zechariah, Matthew, Luke, Revelation, and elsewhere. We’ve done some mileage into those eschatological (end times) books.

Mercifully, anointed Isaiah speaks not only of the judgments that have to come upon unrepentant hearts, but also, FOR OUR BENEFIT AND OUR SUCCESS, lays out a lifestyle of holiness that is acceptable to the Lord, so that the people of God, forgiven and set free from the CONTROL OF SIN, can continue to choose to align themselves w the purposes of heaven.

That successful lifestyle speaks to:
Holiness – including warring against OUR OWN idolatry
Worship – understanding and appreciating its critical significance and effect – andFaldo taking opportunity of its doorway to intimacy w God
Generosity – refusing to hoard or hunker down in some “personal survival” mode
Ongoing service to God – sowing beside all waters – being busy about the Master’s business as lights in the world
Obedience to the Spirit and Partnership w God

God has always wanted to partner w His people in the establishment and maintenance of righteousness on earth. It was THE PLAN in the GARDEN.

It was THE INTENDED PLAN that involved the separation of the NATION OF ISRAEL.
And it has been THE PLAN for the consecrated CHURCH OF GOD, both Jew and Gentile, in the NT age.

BACK TO WORSHIP FOR A MOMENT – We spent some time looking at the call to prophetic worship (Isaiah 30) and its critical impact upon the forces of evil (Assyria will come down).

BACK TO SUCCESSFUL GODLY LIVING (holiness, obedience, generosity, etc – all of this aligns perfectly w this Psalm:

Psalm 37:5-29
5 Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.
7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
Do not fret — it only causes harm.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off;
But those who wait on the Lord,
They shall inherit the earth.
10 For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more;
Indeed, you will look carefully for his place,
But it shall be no more.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
12 The wicked plots against the just,
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
13 The Lord laughs at him,
For He sees that his day is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn the sword
And have bent their bow,
To cast down the poor and needy,
To slay those who are of upright conduct.
15 Their sword shall enter their own heart,
And their bows shall be broken.
16 A little that a righteous man has
Is better than the riches of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
But the Lord upholds the righteous.
18 The Lord knows the days of the upright,
And their inheritance shall be forever.
19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time,
And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20 But the wicked shall perish;
And the enemies of the Lord,
Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish.
Into smoke they shall vanish away.
21 The wicked borrows and does not repay,
But the righteous shows mercy and gives.
22 For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth,
But those cursed by Him shall be cut off.
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his descendants begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lends;
And his descendants are blessed.
27 Depart from evil, and do good;
And dwell forevermore.
28 For the Lord loves justice,
And does not forsake His saints;
They are preserved forever,
But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land,
And dwell in it forever.

OVER THE WEEKS WE LOOKED AT THE GLOBAL NATURE OF THE WORK – clearly HHY
We saw that the work of God is definitely determined, not only upon regional nations, but upon the whole earth.
And we saw that the work will be violent and forceful, involving a BREAKING IN…

Isaiah 28:21-22

21 For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim (BREECH, BREAK-IN),
He will be angry as in the Valley of Gibeon —
That He may do His work, His awesome work,
And bring to pass His act, His unusual act.

AND WE SAW THE WARNING TO NOT TRY TO DISCOUNT THAT WORK
22 Now therefore, do not be mockers,
Lest your bonds be made strong;
For I have heard from the Lord God of hosts,
A destruction determined even upon the whole earth.

We saw that God, in having His eye upon His covenant people, has it upon them both FOR BLESSING and also FOR ACCOUNTABILITY.

Another thing I am hoping you picked up was the overall understanding that SCRIPTURE BEST TESTIFIES OF ITSELF – and that sound doctrine will be confirmed THROUGHOUT the entire word of God.

This is a far more global matter than simply these chapters and verses, and even this subject matter. This is something for us to take into our lives as we study the entire word of God.

It will help keep us rooted and grounded in the fullness of truth, and will drastically reduce the jeopardy of latching onto a verse or a chapter and falling prey to some doctrine that cannot withstand the scrutiny of the entire word of God, nor the multi-faceted BUT ALWAYS RIGHTEOUS AND HOLY personality of God that is displayed throughout the entire word.

Back-tracking a little in Isaiah 33 and then going forward into 34 and 35 (this portion ends at 35, as chapter 36 starts addressing a real-time situation of Sennacherib coming, from Babylon to trouble Jerusalem, only to be turned away by God – but that event marked the beginning of the active troubling by Babylon that eventually would culminate in the first partial fulfillment of these prophecies).

ISA 33 (earlier my notes said 34, sorry):
GOD’S TIMING
10 “Now I will rise,” says the Lord;
“Now I will be exalted,
Now I will lift Myself up.

(interestingly, we saw in Ezek that it will not be until the end of the age that:
A. Israel will fully understand why they suffered, AND
B. The nations will fully understand why Israel suffered, and also WHY and HOW it SEEMED LIKE the false gods of the rebellious nations APPEARED TO BE stronger than the one and only true God.

Ezekiel 39:22,27-28
GENTILES KNOWING:
23 The Gentiles shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity; because they were unfaithful to Me, therefore I hid My face from them. I gave them into the hand of their enemies, and they all fell by the sword.
ISRAEL KNOWING:
27 When I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them out of their enemies ’ lands, and I am hallowed in them in the sight of many nations, 28 then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them captive any longer.

BACK TO ISAIAH 33
The people, through disobedient, had set themselves up for futility (like we read in Haggai) – and they will be condemned by their own words of falsehood:
11 You shall conceive chaff,
You shall bring forth stubble;
Your breath, as fire, shall devour you.

SERIOUS TROUBLE
12 And the people shall be like the burnings of lime;
Like thorns cut up they shall be burned in the fire.

A TESTIMONY TO THE WHOLE WORLD
13 Hear, you who are afar off, what I have done;
And you who are near, acknowledge My might.”

THE JUDGMENT ON THE “COVENANT HYPOCRITES”
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid;
Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:

THE SURVIVAL QUESTION:
“Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire?
Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”

THE HOLY ANSWER (HERE IS TRUE “PREPPING”):
15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
He who despises the gain of oppressions,
Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes,
Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed,
And shuts his eyes from seeing evil:

THE PROMISE
16 He will dwell on high;
His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks;
Bread will be given him,

His water will be sure.

CLEARLY END OF AGE –since this has not yet happened
17 Your eyes will see the King in His beauty;
They will see the land that is very far off
.

THE CLEANSING OF THE LAND OF EVIL
18 Your heart will meditate on terror:
“ Where is the scribe?
Where is he who weighs?
Where is he who counts the towers?”

THE ASSURANCE OF (FINALLY) NO MORE INVADERS (notable in that chapter 36 has Jerusalem seeing and hearing those fierce people at their city walls, so this obviously points forward in time, and definitely cannot point to any other yet-to-come troubling period, EXCEPT THE FINAL ONE, when those nations are defeated by Messiah Himself)
19 You will not see a fierce people,
A people of obscure speech, beyond perception,
Of a stammering tongue that you cannot understand.

THE EVENTUAL RESTORATION OF THE COVENANT PRACTICES (GRANTED, UPDATED PRACTICES)
20 Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts; (certainly NOT pointing to a period after the upcoming captivity, nor pointing to post 70 AD destruction, where some would want to position these verses)
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet home,
A tabernacle that will not be taken down;
Not one of its stakes will ever be removed,
Nor will any of its cords be broken.

THE PRESENCE OF MESSIAH
21 But there the majestic Lord will be for us
A place of broad rivers and streams,
In which no galley with oars will sail,
Nor majestic ships pass by

HIS RULE AND REIGN (HHY)
22 (For the Lord is our Judge,
The Lord is our Lawgiver,
The Lord is our King;
He will save us);

THEN 33:23-24 – MORE DISMANTLING OF THE WARRING NATIONS

GOING FORWARD
WE SAW THIS CALL TO THE NATIONS IN EZEK and ZECH – God will be calling them to Israel, for their judgment IN HIS LAND

NOW: ISA 34
1 Come near, you nations, to hear; (we know God will be getting everyone’s attention, including even calling many INTO THE LAND, for judgment there Ps 110, Ezekiel 38, Zech 14, Isa 14 -“I will break Assyria in My land…”)
And heed, you people!
Let the earth hear, and all that is in it,
The world and all things that come forth from it.

IS GOD HAPPY RIGHT NOW? IS HE IS A GOOD MOOD TOWARDS THE DISOBEDIENT?
2 For the indignation of the Lord is against all nations,
And His fury against all their armies;

ISAIAH LOOKS TO THE CONCLUSION – they actually are ALREADY JUDGED by their activity). This is in perfect harmony w Jesus saying that condemnation was already in the world, because people chose darkness

THIS ALIGNS W THE WORDS OF OUR LORD re the people already condemned
John 3
18 “ He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

ISAIAH 34:3 – SEEING FORWARD TO THE JUDGMENT OF THE WICKED NATIONS – declare it as a done deal:
He has utterly destroyed them,
He has given them over to the slaughter.
3 Also their slain shall be thrown out;
Their stench shall rise from their corpses,
And the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

Gruesome and picturesque, aligning itself w the yet to be fulfilled descriptions of
Ezekiel 39:12-13
12 For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land.
13 Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified,” says the Lord God.

ISA 14
24 The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying,
“ Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass,
And as I have purposed, so it shall stand:
25 That I will break the Assyrian in My land,
And on My mountains tread him underfoot.
Then his yoke shall be removed from them,
And his burden removed from their shoulders.
26 This is the purpose that is purposed against the whole earth,
And this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.

THE CHALLENGE SET FORTH BOTH TO THE NATIONS and also TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD who might prefer to teach and believe an easier, “another” gospel.
27 For the Lord of hosts has purposed,
And who will annul it?
His hand is stretched out,
And who will turn it back?

BACK TO CHAPTER 34
4 All the host of heaven shall be dissolved,
And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll;
All their host shall fall down
As the leaf falls from the vine,
And as fruit falling from a fig tree.

I believe this is part of the “I will shake heaven and earth” – the heaven part. I don’t see this perfectly clearly, yet I see Paul clearly telling us we are at war against principalities and powers in heavenly places – so much still has to be accomplished for there to be a thorough purging of evil.

Even the Isa 30 proclamation, that through prophetic worship “Assyria will fall”, ought to give us some insight into the magnitude of what has to SUPERNATURALLY OCCUR for holiness to prevail – and also to encourage us re the invitation to PARTNER W GOD.
The final conflict will include military struggle, but it will not be won by military struggle, and we would do well to remember that.

ISA 34 – GOD ASSURES US OF HIS OWN SUPERNATURAL PARTICIPATION AND KEY ROLE IN THIS CONCLUSIVE DRAMA
5 “For My sword shall be bathed in heaven;
Indeed it shall come down on Edom,
And on the people of My curse, for judgment.

AND GOD’S SWORD AGAINST MAN IS LIKENED TO THE SLAYING OF ANIMALS
6 The sword of the Lord is filled with blood,
It is made overflowing with fatness,
With the blood of lambs and goats,
With the fat of the kidneys of rams.
For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
And a great slaughter in the land of Edom.

(EDOM, southeast of Israel, is a prophetic marker for anti-Semitism and all raging against God and His people. Bozrah is a town there)

7 The wild oxen shall come down with them,
And the young bulls with the mighty bulls;
Their land shall be soaked with blood,
And their dust saturated with fatness.”

WHAT KIND OF DAY WILL IT BE? AND WHOSE DAY IS IT? AND WHAT IS ITS REDEMPTIVE PURPOSE?
8 For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance,
The year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
– a good day of vindication by God Himself, for His people, who have suffered.

WILL IT BE PEACEFUL AND PRETTY?
9 Its streams shall be turned into pitch,
And its dust into brimstone;
Its land shall become burning pitch.

THE CONCLUSION OF THAT JUDGED-LAND (Edom), AFTER ITS JUDGMENT, WILL BE A DEDICATED WILDERNESS – AND THIS SPEAKS ALSO TO THERE BEING ONGOING CONDITIONS ON PLANET EARTH – in our early days we were originally taught when Jesus returns the world would be comletely over – but Peter’s “new heaven and new earth” is best translated “RENEWED…”
10 It shall not be quenched night or day;
Its smoke shall ascend forever.
From generation to generation it shall lie waste;
No one shall pass through it forever and ever.

11 But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it,
Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it.
And He shall stretch out over it
The line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.

SOME MAY EVEN ATTEMPT A WORK OF RESTORATION, BUT TO NO AVAIL
12 They shall call its nobles to the kingdom,
But none shall be there, and all its princes shall be nothing.

13 And thorns shall come up in its palaces,
Nettles and brambles in its fortresses;
It shall be a habitation of jackals,
A courtyard for ostriches.

14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the jackals,
And the wild goat shall bleat to its companion;
Also the night creature shall rest there,
And find for herself a place of rest.

15 There the arrow snake shall make her nest and lay eggs
And hatch, and gather them under her shadow;
There also shall the hawks be gathered,
Every one with her mate.

THE INVITATION AND ALSO THE CHALLENGE TO STUDY THE WORD OF GOD – because all of the word will be accomplished, and will be validated by the activity on the earth.
16 “ Search from the book of the Lord, and read:
Not one of these shall fail;

THE INHABITATION BY WILD ANIMALS
Not one shall lack her mate.
For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.

17 He has cast the lot for them,
And His hand has divided it among them with a measuring line.

EDOM – representative of the anti-Semitic nature of natural man, and warring against God, and therefore incurring the curse of Gen 12:3 – “I WILL ARAR THOSE WHO QALAL YOU” – WILL NOT GO BACK TO BEING INHABITED BY MANKIND.

IT WILL REMAIN A TESTIMONY OF GOD’S JUDGMENT – just as the Dead Sea, once the most beautiful region, chosen by Lot, now currently stands as a memorial to judgment IN OUR AGE of the PAST AGE…
They (the wild and untamable beasts) shall possess it forever;
From generation to generation they shall dwell in it.”

Chapter 35
MEANWHIILE, GOOD STUFF TO LOOK FORWARD TO:
1 The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them,
And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose;
2 It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice,
Even with joy and singing.

THE BOUNDARIES OF ISRAEL SHALL BE ITS ORGINAL BOUNDARIES – instead of the evil plans of man chomping away at the borders, they will be expanded:

The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,
The excellence of Carmel and Sharon.
They shall see the glory of the Lord,
The excellency of our God.

A VERSE QUOTED IN THE NT – in case anyone requires validation of its eternal purpose and promise. It is also an encouragement for the saints looking forward to the final redemption and resolution, all the while soberly understanding what has to come upon the earth PRIOR TO such redemption and resolution….

3 Strengthen the weak hands,
And make firm the feeble knees.

WE’RE TO PURPOSELY ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER
4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted,
“Be strong, do not fear!

(CRITICAL – we’re strengthened and encouraged NOT BE DENYING or IGNORING what the scriptures assure us HAS TO HAPPEN, but instead we’re strengthened and encouraged by RECOGNIZING AND EMBRACING what the scriptures assure HAS TO HAPPEN.

AT THE SAME TIME, besides encouragement, WE’RE TO UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE THE JEOPARDY OF FAILING TO RECEIVE THAT ENCOURAGEMENT TO DITCH FEARFULNESS:

Revelation 21:6-8
6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.
7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

THIS IS WHY WE WANT TO PRESS IN NOW, and LEARN NOW, so that we might lay hold of the grace sufficient to cause us to be overcomers.

I believe this is one reason why our Lord is taking us through some of the things we are going through in this PREPARATORY SEASON, so that we, HAVING DONE ALL, MIGHT STAND.

AND HERE’S WHY WE’RE TO BE ENCOURAGED:
Behold, your God will come with vengeance,
With the recompense of God;
He will come and save you.”

THIS COORDINATES PERFECTLY W THE WRITER OF HEBREWS, as he goes about to encourages his readers (including us) and also quotes Habakkuk:

Hebrews 10:35-39
35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
37 “ For yet a little while,
And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”
39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

ISA 35
(I SO LOVE THAT GOD HAS CONTINUALLY RESPONDED TO THE PRAYERS OF HIS PEOPLE FOR HEALING, EVEN PRIOR TO THIS PROMISE – because we have seen outbreaks of healing and supernatural miracles throughout these past 2,000 years. BUT WE SURE NEED MORE, and THANKFULLY, we are assured that eventually, upon His return, WE SEE WHOLESALE HEALING!)
5 Then (AT THIS TIME – and as modeled by the amazing full-healing ministry of Jesus during His first advent)
the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer,
And the tongue of the dumb sing.

HEALING OF THE CREATION – Remember, it is groaning along w us
For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness,
And streams in the desert.

7 The parched ground shall become a pool,
And the thirsty land springs of water;
In the habitation of jackals, where each lay,
There shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

8 A highway shall be there, and a road,
And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness.

INTERESTING – and in support of the “Resistors Theory” we discussed last week (some not yet fully sanctified, or maybe not yet walking in Kingdom truths, and yet mercifully not destroyed w the wicked at our Lord’s appearance…). Remember, we looked at the verses in Zechariah 14 where God, after the return of Messiah and the calling of all surviving nations to Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles, is still dealing w defiant people who will not attend – they will suffer drought and even disease.

Zechariah 14:16-19
16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
17 And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain.
18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

ISA 35
THE HIGHWAY OF HOLINESS
The unclean shall not pass over it,
But it shall be for others.
Whoever walks the roa
d, although a fool,
Shall not go astray.

ALMOST AN EDEN-LIKE PEACE UPON EARTH
9 No lion shall be there,
Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it;
It shall not be found there.
But the redeemed shall walk there,

10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return,
And come to Zion with singing,

(WORSHIP STILL – no longer needed for prophetic warfare, but instead fully ministering to the Lord for His goodness – He’s seeking those who will worship Him – remember: we looked at the temptation of our Lord by satan – “if you will worship me…” – GOD WILL BE THE RIGHTFUL RECIPIENT OF ALL ETERNAL WORSHIP.
With everlasting joy on their heads.
They shall obtain joy and gladness,
And sorrow and sighing shall flee away

Isaiah Apocalypse – Session 7 Notes

ISAIAH APOCALYPSE – Week 07

We are in our NEXT TO LAST week for this class. I hope it has blessed you. It has blessed me – and I am pretty familiar w these chapters.

ISA 32 – Isaiah – as an encouragement to the saints of HIS time, but also as a prophetic encouragement to ALL SAINTS in ALL TIMES – particularly TRYING TIMES – now sees WAY FORWARD to the reign of Messiah. I also believe that some of the life-math of these verses offer us glimpses into man’s ongoing free will in the next age, the millennial kingdom age.
1 Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice.

RIGHTEOUS MEN WILL FLOURISH, AND WILL BE HONORED AND WILL PROVIDE SHELTER FROM LIFE – if you think about – it declares the BLESSING OF FELLOWSHIP AND COMMUNITY (even a Ps 133 kind of anointed fellowship blessing) and also, if you look forward into the next age, a place for others out of fellowship to run into – towards the light of God. Bickle: “Resistors” theory – people not destroyed upon the return of the Lord and yet not converted. Theory….

2 A man will be as a hiding place from the wind, and a cover from the tempest, as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

SPEAKS OF BOTH SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL AWAKENING
3 The eyes of those who see will not be dim, and the ears of those who hear will listen.

ONES WHO WERE RASH (or perhaps even continue to be rash) WILL OBTAIN WISDOM, because the environment will be full of the fear of the Lord
4 Also the heart of the rash will understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers will be ready to speak plainly.

THERE MAY STILL BE FOLKS ACTING GOOFY AND EVEN UNGODLY – but they will not be lifted up as wise. And unlike days like our days – where we right called wrong and wrong called right, the phony-generous will not be esteemed as truly generous. TRUTH WILL PREVAIL.
5 The foolish person will no longer be called generous, nor the miser said to be bountiful;

6 For the foolish person will speak foolishness, and his heart will work iniquity: to practice ungodliness, to utter error against the LORD, to keep the hungry unsatisfied, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

BUNNY TRAIL – re the “RESISTERS theory” – those who might still be adverse to compliance to the ordinances of God, AFTER MESSIAH’S appearances:

BACK TO Isaiah 32
ISAIAH appears to not only be foreseeing HOW IT WILL BE in the MILLENNIAL AGE, but also is putting forth a prescription off successful living PRIOR TO THE MILLENNIAL AGE – including in tough times – as there’s a promise of success.

7 Also the schemes of the schemer are (current tense) evil; he devises wicked plans to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks justice.

I BELIEVE THIS WILL BE A SALVATION-POSITION FOR SAINTS DURING HARD TIMES – when our fleshly intellect would have us hoarding, while our spirit-man would have us giving…
8 But a generous man devises generous things, and by generosity he shall stand. (this verse, in every translation I checked, is ongoing, present tense. It is a Kingdom key)

NOTABLE HERE IS THE FACT THAT GOD, in His goodness, is all about teaching us Kingdom Principles NOW, so that when tougher, trying times are upon us, we will have learned the ways of God, and have already begun to understand both what He is doing, and how to live successfully.

God – goading Jeremiah w a question about not complaining during the less-trying situations, because the tougher times will be tougher. Well, duh:
Jeremiah 12:5
5 “If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you,
Then how can you contend with horses?
And if in the land of peace,
In which you trusted, they wearied you,
Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?

IMPORTANT FOR ALL OF US, AT ALL TIMES, IS THE ASSURANCE THAT THERE IS GRACE SO THAT WE CAN STAND.
Huge topic.
1. This STANDING is not a contradiction to “every knee shall bow”. This standing speaks of survival, and righteous, successful and honorable living, in the sight and presence of God.

STANDING IS A BIG DEAL TO GOD. God made man upright.
Ecclesiastes 7:29
Truly, this only I have found:
That God made man upright,
But they have sought out many schemes.”

GOD WANTS HIS PEOPLE SUCCESFUL – and we can do that, as we stand IN HIM.
Ephesians 6:13
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and

    having done all, to stand

.

Back to Isaiah again – the important Verse 8:
8 But a generous man devises generous things, and by generosity he shall stand. (this verse, in every translation I checked, is ongoing, present tense. It is a Kingdom key)

RE: GENEROSITY, AND GIVING – W ONE BY-PRODUCT BEING YOUR OWN SUCCESS AND BLESSING – JESUS TELLS US:
Luke 6:38
38 “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

There’s a whole message here on giving and hoarding, and lying/cheating/stealing – both in the place of business but also expanding to all of one’s life. I’ve spoken before of the SCROLL in Zechariah – the LYIN’/CHEATIN’ scroll that slow-orbits in the heavenly realms. I believe it is an eye-in-the-sky to observe how each person conducts himself in matters of money, and fairness, and generosity.

Zechariah 5:1-4 (yet again – as I believe this is a priority in the plans of God, that we understand the accountability of honesty and generosity).
1 Then I turned and raised my eyes, and saw there a flying scroll.
2 And he said to me, “ What do you see?”
So I answered, “I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits.”
3 Then he said to me, “ This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth: ‘Every thief shall be expelled, ’ according to this side of the scroll; and, ‘Every perjurer shall be expelled, ’ according to that side of it.”
4 “I will send out the curse,” says the Lord of hosts;
“It shall enter the house of the thief
And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name.
It shall remain in the midst of his house
And consume it, with its timber and stones.

ALSO MENTIONED EARLIER – the warrior God and His outrage at financial injustice:
ADONAI T’SVA-OAT – God-on-the-warpath – only presented twice in the NT – once in Romans reciting an OT verse, and the ONLY NEW TIME in James – speaking of the cries of the workers whose money has been withheld….
Isa 32:8, I believe, is something we need to learn NOW, so that when things get tougher, we are familiar to living with open hands, so we don’t fall into the trap of miserly living, incurring judgment:

James 5:1-4
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.
4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

TO THE CONTRARY – Paul tells us in Corinthians that God loves the person who “GETS GIVING” – the HILARIOUS GIVER – the one who has had the revelation that it is absolutely impossible to out-give the Supreme Giver.

The Cheerful Giver
2 Corinthians 9:6-9
6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful (Greek: HILAROS) giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9 As it is written:
“He has dispersed abroad,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness endures forever.”

This OF COURSE applies to the financial realm, but I also believe it applies to all aspects of life.
We can hoard our time, our thought processes, everything.
EVERY THOUGHT TAKEN CAPTIVE surrenders our minds to the Lord.
SERVICE WORKS, WILLINGNESS TO SERVE THE BODY AND OTHERS, ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF – are all exemplary of the HILARIOUS GIVER – the one whose life is owned by God, the one who trusts that FATHER KNOWS BEST, and that our time schedules and our plans and purposes are best orchestrated by Him.

ISA 32
ISAIAH now clearly directs his words to the people of his time by even putting a DATE STAMP on this word (but of course declaring eternal Kingdom truth):
9 Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice; you complacent daughters, give ear to my speech.
10 In a year and some days you will be troubled, you complacent women; for the vintage will fail, the gathering will not come.
11 Tremble, you women who are at ease; be troubled, you complacent ones; strip yourselves, make yourselves bare, and gird sackcloth on your waists.
12 People shall mourn upon their breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.
13 On the land of my people will come up thorns and briers, yes, on all the happy homes in the joyous city;
14 Because the palaces will be forsaken, the bustling city will be deserted. The forts and towers will become lairs forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks–

TO ME, 9-14 appear to be in place, to some degree, until verse 15 – which once again seems to point to the culmination of this age, when the Spirit is poured out in great measure, and righteousness prevails – because verse 16 cannot be historically knitted into the historical fabric of life in captivity, subsequent to the humiliating cattle-drive deportation of the captivity – which we looked at in week one.

Verse 14 again, for continuity:
14 Because the palaces will be forsaken, the bustling city will be deserted. The forts and towers will become lairs forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks–

AND NOW apparently pointing to the great outpouring at the end of the age and beyond:
15 Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is counted as a forest.
16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field.
17 The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever. (HHY)
18 My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places,
19 Though hail comes down on the forest, and the city is brought low in humiliation.
HERE ARE THE HOLY ONES, THE INDUSTRIOUS ONES, AND THE GENEROUS ONES – blessed, always.
20 Blessed are you who sow beside all waters (the scriptures speak of peaceful waters, and also troubled waters, and dried up waters), who send out freely the feet of the ox and the donkey.

Verse 20, give its POSITION in scripture – speaks to me on many levels.
A. Blessed are those who are around to sow into the next age (THE REMNANT)
B. Blessed are those who, understanding God’s sovereignty over all conditions and situations at all times, CONTINUE TO SOW – busy about the Master’s business. This speaks to me about never embracing a “hunker down and do nothing” mentality.

INSTEAD – the ones who understand their God understand that it is God Himself who changes the course of waters – sending forth waters, drying up waters, sending the waves, etc.

Psalm 107:33-36
33 He turns rivers into a wilderness,
And the watersprings into dry ground;
34 A fruitful land into barrenness,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35 He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
And dry land into watersprings.
36 There He makes the hungry dwell,
That they may establish a city for a dwelling place,

Psalm 29
1 Give (ASCRIBE) unto the Lord, O you mighty ones,
Give unto the Lord glory and strength.
2 Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
(ONCE AGAIN – LORD OF ALL THE WATERS)
3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
The God of glory thunders;
The Lord is over many waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;
The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars,
Yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes them also skip like a calf,
Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire.
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
The Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth,
And strips the forests bare;
And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”
10 The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood,
And the Lord sits as King forever.
11 The Lord will give strength to His people;
The Lord will bless His people with peace.

It is that kind of understanding that will keep us close to God, and keep us praising Him in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, and not freaking out or hunkering down, or hoarding, or compromising, or stealing from one another, etc. etc.

And also in that place of understanding of His plans (remember Jer 9 – rejoice that you KNOW and UNDERSTAND ME…) will be our praise, as we saw in Isa 30 – bringing about the collapse of Assyria – representing the confluence of all-things-evil.

I believe, to some degree, YET ANOTHER REASON why our Adversary likes to feed us bad doctrine is so that when things happen on earth that biblically HAVE TO HAPPEN as part of God’s end-of-age plan, the disjointed and confused saints will be in a funk, nearly unable to worship, because THE PLAN that God will be activating, in complete concert w the fullness of scripture, will not be in conjunction w what they believe, and saints will be offended by God.

MEANWHILIE, IN OUR GOD, the Kingdom components we have been studying will be in place to assure our success. That is why He is leading us to practice these Kingdom components, at all times.

Isaiah 33

God’s judgment on the non-repentant, and the hypocrite – and also a confirmation that simply “STOPPING SINNING” is insufficient to deflect judgment or “neutralize judgment”.

Repentance and forgiveness is what is required. JUST STOPPING SINNING still keeps a guilty person guilty, and in jeopardy.

1 Woe to you who plunder, though you have not been plundered;
And you who deal treacherously, though they have not dealt treacherously with you!
When you cease plundering,
You will be plundered;
When you make an end of dealing treacherously,
They will deal treacherously with you.

Isaiah gets personal:
2 O Lord, be gracious to us;
We have waited for You.
Be their arm every morning,
Our salvation also in the time of trouble.

3 At the noise of the tumult the people shall flee;
When You lift Yourself up, the nations shall be scattered;

REMEMBER ISA 26 – let grace be shown to the wicked, they will not learn righteousness….”

THE VICTORY WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED
4 And Your plunder shall be gathered
Like the gathering of the caterpillar;
As the running to and fro of locusts,
He shall run upon them.

GOD WILL BE EXALTED IN THE JUDGMENT HE INITIATES
5 The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high;
He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
(HHY. STAY TUNED)

EVERLASTING TRUTH
6 Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times,
And the strength of salvation;

HUGE TRUTH: The fear of the Lord is His treasure.

THE EFFORTS OF MAN WILL BE INSUFFICIENT
7 Surely their valiant ones shall cry outside,
The ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.

THE PLACE IS A MESS, AND WHY
8 The highways lie waste,
The traveling man ceases.
He has broken the covenant,
He has despised the cities,
He regards no man.

THE GROANING CREATION
9 The earth mourns and languishes,
Lebanon is shamed and shriveled;
Sharon is like a wilderness,
And Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.

GOD, IN THIS PORTION OF SCRIPTURE, HAS SEEN ENOUGH AND IT IS TIME TO RISE UP
10 “ Now I will rise,” says the Lord;
“Now I will be exalted,
Now I will lift Myself up.

11 You shall conceive chaff,
You shall bring forth stubble;
Your breath, as fire, shall devour you
.

12 And the people shall be like the burnings of lime;
Like thorns cut up they shall be burned in the fire.

GOD’S JDUGMENT ON ALL, WILL BE KNOWN BY ALL
13 Hear, you who are afar off, what I have done;
And you who are near, acknowledge My might.”

BACK TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD – a terrible fear will come upon those who have been acting out their religious life w God
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid;
Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:

THE BIG QUESTION: “Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire?
Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”

THE ETERNAL ANSWER:
15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
He who despises the gain of oppressions,
Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes,
Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed,
And shuts his eyes from seeing evil:

THE PROMISE – and pointing to the saints being in this troubled situation, requiring this assurance and deliverance – and not out of here before it hits the fan:
16 He will dwell on high;
His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks;
Bread will be given him,
His water will be sure.

17 Your eyes will see the King in His beauty;
They will see the land that is very far off.

18 Your heart will meditate on terror:
“ Where is the scribe?
Where is he who weighs?
Where is he who counts the towers?”

THIS IS CERTAINLY HHY, BUT WE CAN BANK ON IT AS UPCOMING
19 You will not see a fierce people,
A people of obscure speech, beyond perception,
Of a stammering tongue that you cannot understand.

20 Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts;
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet home,
A tabernacle that will not be taken down;
Not one of its stakes will ever be removed,
Nor will any of its cords be broken.

RULE AND REIGN OF MESSIAH, AFTER HIS RETURN
21 But there the majestic Lord will be for us
A place of broad rivers and streams,
In which no galley with oars will sail,
Nor majestic ships pass by

22 (For the Lord is our Judge,
The Lord is our Lawgiver,
The Lord is our King;
He will save us);

THE WARRING NATIONS WILL BE DISARMED
23 Your tackle is loosed,
They could not strengthen their mast,
They could not spread the sail.
Then the prey of great plunder is divided;
The lame take the prey.

THE REDEMPTION AND HEALING OF ISRAEL – NOT YET, BUT SOMEDAY. THAT IS WHY WE PRAY FOR ITS PEACE, AND FOR THE RETURN OF THE PRINCE OF PEACE
24 And the inhabitant will not say, “I am sick”;
The people who dwell in it will be forgiven their iniquity.

Isaiah Apocalypse – Session 6 Notes

Isaiah Apocalypse – Week 06

This chapter looks ahead to what is upcoming, both to Judah and then to the end of the age. And meanwhile what we are being shown are Kingdom dynamics that will apply to all times, any times, of trouble. In reality, these dynamics, being “Kingdom” and therefore eternal dynamics, are good for us to understand during ANY times, not only tough times.

In fact, one of the Kingdom Dynamics is that, if we refuse to understand WHAT our God does, and WHAT He expects of us His people at ALL times, we might find ourselves in more troubling times simply because we failed to understand God during better times, as He dealt WITH US the same way He has ALWAYS DEALT WITH HIS COVENANT PEOPLE.

So without reading lots of Jer 9 again – let’s remember the essential:

Jer 9:24-26
24 But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.

THAT IS WHO HE IS AND HOW HE OPERATES.

So Isaiah sees the trouble coming, God knows that HE HIMSELF will be sending the trouble, and He’s telling the people in advance NOT to respond to God’s troubling by taking off in the opposite direction.

Remember, even King David had moments of “FLIGHTS OF FANCY”

Ps 55:5-18
5 Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me.
6 So I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.
7 Indeed, I would wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah
8 I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.”
(Greater description of the trouble, then the conclusion)
16 As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me.
17 Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.
18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, for there were many against me.

Meanwhile – chapter 30 – rebellious Judah is about to be troubled mightily because of their corruption and disobedience. The covenant nation had broken covenant. Sadly, familiar to us.

GOD’S CLEAR WARNING:
Isa 30:1-33
1 “Woe to the rebellious children (NOT STRANGERS – HIS CHILDREN),” says the LORD, “Who take counsel, but not of Me, and who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin;

The reason for the trouble was sin, and their decision to flee FROM God as opposed TO God, was adding sin to sin.

2 Who walk to go down to Egypt, and have not asked My advice, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!

3 Therefore the strength of Pharaoh shall be your shame, and trust in the shadow of Egypt shall be your humiliation.
4 For his princes were at Zoan, and his ambassadors came to Hanes.
5 They were all ashamed of a people who could not benefit them, or be help or benefit, but a shame and also a reproach.”
6 The burden against the beasts of the South. Through a land of trouble and anguish, from which came the lioness and lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches on the backs of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people who shall not profit;

7 For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose. Therefore I have called her Rahab-Hem-Shebeth.

Interesting verse. RAHAB means big or wide. The prostitute in Joshua may well have been BIG or WIDE – we needn’t go there. Subsequent to that story, RAHAB may have been associated with a whoring attitude, OR may still simply have meant BIG or WIDE. Either way, it fit Egypt – the 3,000 year empire that sprawled beneath Israel, but also a symbol of the bondage of man. Israel was going to someplace big and wide, “sleeping around” – committing harlotry with the gods of this world. AND GOD HIMSELF TELLS Judah the He was going to take Egypt into a coma of lethargy and sleep. SHEBETH is from SHABBAT.

Were we to FAST FORWARD to the days of Ezekiel – we would read that Israel fleeing down to Egypt was indeed going to happen, and God was soon going to curse that nation with a curse that stands TO THIS DAY:

FIRST – we see God’s sovereignty over ALL nations – remember we had discussed Egypt and the Assyrian Empire BOTH being used by God to discipline His people Israel – and at the same time we see God working IN those nations for their demonic ways.

Ezek 29:19-20
19 “Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Surely I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he shall take away her wealth, carry off her spoil, and remove her pillage; and that will be the wages for his army.
20 ‘I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor, because they worked for Me,’ says the Lord GOD.

Jews had been taken captive into Egypt and God was doing something there:
Ezek 29:14-16
14 “I will bring back the captives of Egypt and cause them to return to the land of Pathros, to the land of their origin, and there they shall be a lowly kingdom.
15 “It shall be the lowliest of kingdoms; it shall never again exalt itself above the nations, for I will diminish them so that they will not rule over the nations anymore.
16 “No longer shall it be the confidence of the house of Israel, but will remind them of their iniquity when they turned to follow them. Then they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.”‘”

(The good news is the promise of Isa 19 and elsewhere – that the broken state of Egypt will eventually bring about revival and acknowledgement of the God of Israel.

BACK TO ISA 30
8 Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and note it on a scroll, that it may be for time to come, forever and ever: (Memorialized – so that WE might not forget)
9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of the LORD;

The people were still “spiritual” but didn’t want truth
10 Who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us right things; speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.
11 Get out of the way, turn aside from the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.”

THEY REFUSED THE TRUE PROPHETIC AND WANTED THE SMOOTH AND THE EASY AND THE ENCOURAGING. THE RESULT WAS USELESS PROPHETIC GARBAGE, EASY LISTENING.
Remember Micaiah last week – how King Ahab surrounded himself w 400 worthless YES MEN PROPHETS, and told the Jehoshaphat that he (Ahab) hated Micaiah because he didn’t concur w the false prophets? Some things will not change in this age….
12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel: “Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perversity, and rely on them,

THINGS WOULD BE WORSE because of their disobedience:
13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach ready to fall, a bulge in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.
14 And He shall break it like the breaking of the potter’s vessel, which is broken in pieces; he shall not spare. So there shall not be found among its fragments a shard to take fire from the hearth, or to take water from the cistern.”

15 For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” But you would not,

REMEMBER:
Isa 28:12
12 To whom He said, “This is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest,” and, “This is the refreshing”; yet they would not hear.

16 And you said, “No, for we will flee on horses”– therefore you shall flee! And, “We will ride on swift horses”– therefore those who pursue you shall be swift!
17 One thousand shall flee at the threat of one, at the threat of five you shall flee, till you are left as a pole on top of a mountain and as a banner on a hill.

SO INSTEAD of the PEOPLE WAITING on God,
GOD would be WAITING for His people to come back to Him, after they had suffered.

Here is the turning point – after God necessarily has to afflict His people, instead of destroying them He waits for them to sober up, after they had suffered enough to sober up, and to come back to Him.

18 Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him.

Does that sound like anything else we’ve looked into?
How about Hosea.

Hosea 5:11-15
11 Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked by human precept.
12 Therefore I will be to Ephraim like a moth, and to the house of Judah like rottenness.
13 “When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria and sent to King Jareb; yet he cannot cure you, nor heal you of your wound.
14 For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will tear them and go away; I will take them away, and no one shall rescue.
15 I will return again to My place till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.”

Hosea 6:1-3
1 Come, and let us return to the LORD; for He has torn, but He will heal us; he has stricken, but He will bind us up.
2 After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.
3 Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the morning; he will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth.

BACK TO ISA 30
LOOKING FORWARD – definitely NOT to the events of Nebuchadnezzar’s army-invasion, and definitely NOT to the events of the first or second century AD – which some want to latch onto as the toughest of all time, so we won’t have END TIMES TOUGH TIMES.
V 19 only fits into the Bible-Image of the Restoration at the end of the age

19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you.

Once again we see the admonition to cry out so our voices are heard by God.

DOES GOD AFFLICT HIS PEOPLE?
20 And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes shall see your teachers.

As a teacher I of course love that verse. In part I believe that ones who would be called to teach the truth of scripture oftentimes are not going to have platforms of popularity – because truth is controversial.

And BEYOND THE ANOINTED TEACHERS is the promise of Holy Spirit leading, in this instance for course correction. That of course is a great comfort – in knowing that being “off-course” while serving the GOOD SHEPHERD needing end in tragedy. He is there to tell you.
21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.

IN THE PLACE OF ENJOYING THE PRESENCE OF GOD WILL BE PROACTIVE HOLY HOUSE CLEANING
22 You will also defile the covering of your graven images of silver, and the ornament of your molded images of gold. You will throw them away as an unclean thing; you will say to them, “Get away!”

AND WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THAT? Blessing.
23 Then He will give the rain for your seed with which you sow the ground, and bread of the increase of the earth; it will be fat and plentiful. In that day your cattle will feed in large pastures.
24 Likewise the oxen and the young donkeys that work the ground will eat cured fodder, which has been winnowed with the shovel and fan.

23-24 – wonderful verses of plenty. Obviously days of joy. But look what else is revealed to us as characteristics of these days – judgment on the wicked – this is not contradictory. This is the complete and thorough work of the Lord (AT THE SAME TIME, per Jer 9):
……….exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth

25 There will be on every high mountain and on every high hill rivers and streams of waters, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS – God’s billboard
26 Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD binds up the bruise of His people and heals the stroke of their wound.

A HEALING WORK OF GOD for the people who have made themselves His, and meanwhile a work of judgment, at the same time, for the ones raging against Him. It sounds to me that there will be righteous ones on the earth in the days of great and severe judgment on those wicked. This does not fit the imagery of the upcoming Babylonian captivity. This fits the prophetic picture of the end of this age.
27 Behold, the name of the LORD comes from afar, burning with His anger, and His burden is heavy; his lips are full of indignation, and His tongue like a devouring fire.
28 His breath is like an overflowing stream, which reaches up to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of futility; and there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err.

A BRIDLE IN THE JAWS OF THE PEOPLE. Sound familiar? What did we see earlier?

Ezek 38:16
16 “You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.”

And earlier in Isaiah – coming with what I believe is a challenge, not only to the wicked nations, but also to the prophets who would want to discount or diminish the prophecies of the scripture that have not yet come to pass.

ISA 30 – meanwhile, the saints of the Lord, understanding the BIBLICALLY REVEALED PLANS OF GOD, and being led by the SPIRIT OF GOD as the situation unfolds, will understand that all that is happening is OF GOD, and they will be a people PREPARED TO PARTICIPATE, and TO PREVAIL:
29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy festival is kept, and gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute, to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the Mighty One of Israel.
30 The LORD will cause His glorious voice to be heard, and show the descent of His arm, with the indignation of His anger and the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, tempest, and hailstones.
31 For through the voice of the LORD Assyria will be beaten down, as He strikes with the rod.
HE WILL STRIKE WITH THE ROD – as the saints are in the “festive place” of prophetic worship”.
32 And in every place where the staff of punishment passes, which the LORD lays on him, it will be with tambourines and harps; and in battles of brandishing He will fight with it.

Interestingly – a commentary I ENJOY FOR ITS HISTORIC INSIGHT, I believe is lacking and therefore incomplete in its lack of PROPHETIC INSIGHT. They wrote that the saints are celebrating AFTERWARD. But these verses, to me, point to PARTICIPATION – particularly verse 32.

I believe the critical nature and the explosive potential of TRUE PROPHETIC WORSHIP causes our adversary to tremble. The one who it appears may well have been the first “worship leader of the heavenlies” – and fell because of pride – understands what worship can accomplish. I further believe this is why there is such a huge investment, by Satan, into the darkest of music realms. I also believe that to function at the levels of prophetic worship that HAS TO OCCUR in at the end of the age, for these verses in Isa to be fully-filled, we will have to get to a place of intimacy in worship that will only come through complete surrender and holiness.

OF COURSE WORSHIP is more than music. Still, there is something that God Himself is telling us, throughout scripture, of voice and instruments together.

Some interesting verses in Ezekiel speak of Tyre and Sidon, in modern day Lebanon – as a proud and beautiful-beyond-belief PLACE, but some take these verses as also perhaps providing us w some insight into the fall of Satan (Hebrew: SA-TAAN = ADVERSARY):

Ezek 28:13-15
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: the sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.
14 “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you.

Robyn and I, neither one of us musically inclined, for many years were involved in the lives of some seriously anointed international worship leaders. Many are still friends w us. The battles that go on for that lives, their sanctification, their ministries and their callings, is profound. We have to understand that worship, and music, and song are battlefields as well as places of ministry to the Lord. We need to allow the Lord to “train our hands for war”. We need to come into those places, sometimes in faith, understanding how important this is to the successful conclusion of this age.

BACK TO ISA 30
33 For Tophet was established of old,………….

And here we are at Tophet – the historic valley to the west of the Old City of Jerusalem. That same valley is called Hinnom.

As a result of the bloody judgment of our God, that valley – used as a place of child sacrifice, would be redeemed by a payment of the blood of the guilty:

33 For Tophet was established of old, yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made it deep and large; its pyre is fire with much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it.

SUPPORTING VERSES:
Jer 7:30-33
30 “For the children of Judah have done evil in My sight,” says the LORD. “They have set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to pollute it.
31 “And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into My heart.
32 “Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “when it will no more be called Tophet, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter; for they will bury in Tophet until there is no room.
33 “The corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the heaven and for the beasts of the earth. And no one will frighten them away.

2 Chr 33:1
1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.
2 Chr 33:6
6 Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger.

Ps 110:4-6
4 The LORD has sworn and will not relent, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is at Your right hand; he shall execute kings in the day of His wrath.
6 He shall judge among the nations, he shall fill the places with dead bodies, he shall execute the heads of many countries.

SO what we are seeing in Isaiah 30 is judgment on the disobedient – who compound their sins by not wanting to hear truth, and by fleeing in the opposite direction – to the bondages of the dark ways of the world, to avoid the correction of God.

ISA 31
YET MORE WARNING RE GOING AFTER THE HELP OF MAN
1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD!

2 Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, and will not call back His words, but will arise against the house of evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity.

3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, both he who helps will fall, and he who is helped will fall down; they all will perish together.

4 For thus the LORD has spoken to me: “As a lion roars, and a young lion over his prey (When a multitude of shepherds is summoned against him, he will not be afraid of their voice nor be disturbed by their noise), so the LORD of hosts will come down to fight for Mount Zion and for its hill.
5 Like birds flying about, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; passing over, He will preserve it.”

JUST LIKE THE CALL OF HOSEA 5: RETURN

6 Return to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

And what happens when the people of God FINALLY return to their God?
This hasn’t happened yet – but it will. I believe this pointing to THE SAINTS allowing the sanctifying work of the fire of the Holy Spirit, sometimes as a result of great and severe troubles, to sanctify us and to cleanse us.
WHAT DID THE PSALMIST SAY IN PSALM 66: – You caused men to ride over our backs. You refined us as silver is refined……Afterward the season of covenant and oaths.

7 For in that day every man shall throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold– sin, which your own hands have made for yourselves.

WHEN DOES ASSYRIA FINALLY FALL, FOREVER?
8 “Then Assyria shall fall by a sword not of man, and a sword not of mankind shall devour him. But he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become forced labor.
9 He shall cross over to his stronghold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the banner,” says the LORD, whose fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

BABYLON – for a moment – the wickedness and pride of man BEGAN there – Nimrod and the tower of Babel – it was the first corporate movement of Satan. And where does the evil corporate work conclude? Babylon.

Once again I remind you of the words we read weeks ago in Zechariah – words that I believe speak to a residence of the fullness of wickedness, set IN PLACE, on its established base, until the time when it will have to be released by supernatural force, at the appropriate time:

Zech 5:9-11
9 Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.
10 So I said to the angel who talked with me, “Where are they carrying the basket?”
11 And he said to me, “To build a house for it in the land of Shinar; when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base.”

Iran and Iraq are the keystone countries of the Assyrian Empire land mass.
I appreciate others view the Zech verses differently – but from the lens the Lord has given to me, this is how I see them.

Rev 14:6-9 – where we not only see coordinated verses, but also see a confirmation of the component of WORSHIP and who will someone choose to worship….
6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth– to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people–
7 saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”
8 And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”
9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand,
10 “he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.”

ISA 32 – Isaiah – as an encouragement to the saints of his time, but also as a prophetic encouragement to ALL SAINTS in ALL TRYING TIMES – looks WAY FORWARD to the reign of Messiah. I also believe that some of the life-math of these verses offer us glimpses into man’s ongoing free will in the next age, the millennial kingdom age.
1 Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice.

RIGHTEOUS MEN WILL FLOURISH, AND WILL BE HONORED AND WILL PROVIDE SHELTER FROM LIFE.

ONES WHO WERE RASH WILL OBTAIN WISDOM, because the environment will be full of the fear of the Lord
4 Also the heart of the rash will understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers will be ready to speak plainly.

THERE WILL STILL BE FOLKS ACTING GOOFY AND EVEN UNGODLY – but they will not be lifted up as wise. And the phony-generous will not be esteemed as truly generous. TRUTH WILL PREVAIL.
5 The foolish person will no longer be called generous, nor the miser said to be bountiful;

6 For the foolish person will speak foolishness, and his heart will work iniquity: to practice ungodliness, to utter error against the LORD, to keep the hungry unsatisfied, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

ISAIAH appears to bring it back to his own days here, and in so doing I believe he is also prescribing a place for success living PRIOR TO THE MILLENNIAL AGE
7 Also the schemes of the schemer are evil; he devises wicked plans to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks justice.

JESUS TELLS US:
Luke 6:38

38 “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

There’s a whole message on giving and hoarding, and lying/cheating/stealing – both in the place of business but also expanding to all of one’s life. I’ve spoken before of the SCROLL in Zechariah – the LYIN’/CHEATIN’ scroll that slow-orbits in the heavenly realms. I believe it is an eye-in-the-sky to observe how each person conducts himself in matters of money, and fairness, and generosity.

ADONAI T’SVA-OAT – God’s warrior name – only presented twice in the NT – once in Romans reciting an OT verse, and the ONLY NEW TIME in James – speaking of the cries of the workers whose money has been withheld….
Isa 32:8, I believe, is something we need to learn NOW, so that when things get tougher, we are familiar to living with open hands.

ISA 32
ISAIAH directs himself to the people of his time:
9 Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice; you complacent daughters, give ear to my speech.
10 In a year and some days you will be troubled, you complacent women; for the vintage will fail, the gathering will not come.
11 Tremble, you women who are at ease; be troubled, you complacent ones; strip yourselves, make yourselves bare, and gird sackcloth on your waists.
12 People shall mourn upon their breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.
13 On the land of my people will come up thorns and briers, yes, on all the happy homes in the joyous city;
14 Because the palaces will be forsaken, the bustling city will be deserted. The forts and towers will become lairs forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks–

TO ME, 9-14 appear to be in place, to some degree, until verse 15 – which once again seems to point to the culmination of this age, when the Spirit is poured out in great measure, and righteousness prevails
20 Blessed are you who sow beside all waters (the scriptures speak of peaceful waters, and also troublesome waters, and dried up waters), who send out freely the feet of the ox and the donkey.
